IIRC 4 of those 5 loses were to top ten teams that year: UL, WVU, VT, & Ohio State. He beat Rutgers when it was Top Ten.Uhhhh. 4-7 was the first year Cincinnati was in the Big East.
In his third year at UC ( the team's second year in the Big East) he went 8-5.
Dantonio Recruiting and player development at UC set the stage for Brian Kelly's first year with the Bearcats going 11-2.
Anyone comparing Flood to Dantonio has to be on Drugs.
I clearly said in my OP that Flood was no Dantonio, but you missed that part. I was pointing out that as coach of MSU and after all the off field stuff, Dantonio was retained. Imagine if they fired him. He would have been fired if this occurred at Rutgers.IIRC 4 of those 5 loses were to top ten teams that year: UL, WVU, VT, & Ohio State. Yeah, the parallel to a failed OL coach who gets blown out to every team with a pulse is uncanny.
Flood is not a good coach though. Rankings do matter. But great coaches can overcome being out recruited when they out coach their opponentMSU Recruiting Classes

Did not look promising for MSU with those recruiting classes going into 2010.
Not saying we will do the same, but no need to be so glum.
no mancrush and not accepting mediocrity.
So what are you going to do next football season?
I'm renewing. And I will hope for the best, despite not being optimistic.

Do you know how childish you sound spelling Flood that way? It's beneath third grade. So your argument is that rutgers has no patience when it comes to coaches and we fire football coaches at the drop of a hat? Do you realize how not true that is or are you so befuddled by your love for fludd that you just can't see it?
Thanks for the first (maybe second) reasonable answer.Beat Maryland convincingly and have some 4 and 5 star recruits commit for 2016 , then he's on the road to redemption. That probably means some kids need to be convinced to flip to RU from the school they already committed to.
Bring in a top 20 class of 2016 recruiting class and that road will be a little smoother .
But if ( which I suspect will happen) Flood comes back 2016 season, he must prove he can be a good HC and have the team play competitively against all the top opponents , while beating the 2nd tier ones easily.
Do you know how childish you sound spelling Flood that way? ...
So I take it we're in the "bargaining" phase now? Only depression & acceptance to go!I clearly said in my OP that Flood was no Dantonio, but you missed that part. If that's a reflection on me, the OP, I'll make you look like that self portrait I posted of you on the Free Ron Jeremy thread! (and of course, we would have to fight virtually, online, because in real life, I am 98 pounds soaking wet). This is a pretty interesting, very revealing thread, actually. Which I didn't expect when I opened it and started reading.
So the last shall be first. He wasn't a hot shot coordinator. He was the last guy in the room.
We are making progress. Soon it will be a full scale bromance, and we may be arm in arm singing On the Banks of the Old Raritan after Flood wins the B1G championship next year. :flush:[roll][sick]So I take it we're in the "bargaining" phase now? Only depression & acceptance to go!
Disagree. It's not hating, review his body of work and that work shows he can't compete with teams that have a pulse. I am not expecting to go 11-1 and beat Ohio State every year but can't we at leas look competitive and not get blown out so often? I'd like to see us getting better but I don't see signs of that. Therefore most of us want him gone. No hatred. We just want a coach who is capable of moving program to the next level.everyone can , if you say not , you are just a hater
Very reasonable post Knight Shift. However, the anti-Floodites are dug in. It's like spitting into the wind.If the rumors are true, and you are beside yourself with anger and disbelief, and considering or have decided to not renew your season tickets, what can Flood do to redeem himself?
And no, resigning or anything along those lines is not an option.
A clean year off the field?--no arrests or off the field issues.
Improved performance on the field--what standard?
Markt Dantonio was 6-7 in his third year at Michigan State in 2009. Lost to Central Michigan.
At the beginning of the 2009 season, Dantonio immediately reinstated Glenn Winston, who had served four months in jail for assault. He received a 180-day jail sentence in April after pleading guilty to misdemeanor aggravated assault and misdemeanor assault and battery. "Glenn has done everything that he's been asked to do from a judicial and a team standpoint," head coach Mark Dantonio said in a prepared statement. "He has paid the penalty for his actions -- publicly, legally and athletically -- and he worked hard to maintain his academic eligibility while doing so. We regret the entire incident, however at this time, it is important that we support Glenn socially, academically and athletically. He still has a lot of work to do."
In response to criticism, "I support Mark Dantonio's request to reinstate Glenn Winston," athletic director Mark Hollis said in a prepared statement. "Glenn has much work to do, however, the athletics department will not turn its back on this young man. I am supportive of all student-athletes that are a part of our program. We will move forward and continue to support A.J. Sturges and Glenn with all the resources available to us."
A few months later in the season, 13 players (and former players) were reportedly part of an assault at Rather Hall on campus, leading to charges being filed against nine MSU football players. One of the players was Glenn Winston. He went to jail again. Of the nine charged, two - Glenn Winston and Roderick Jenrette - were dismissed permanently from the team by coach Mark Dantonio on Nov. 24. Both had previously received second chances, Winston after serving nearly four months in jail on a misdemeanor assault conviction. The incident took place after a fraternity potluck dinner in the MSU dormitory, about 90 minutes after the football team's awards banquet.
Imagine this happening at Rutgers?
Dantonio has become a legend. He is gunning to win 11 games in 5 of 6 seasons since then. What if they ran him out of town in 2009?
No, I am not suggesting Kyle Flood is Mark Dantonio.
No worries. I was referring to how people responded to your OP.If that's a reflection on me, the OP, I'll make you look like that self portrait I posted of you on the Free Ron Jeremy thread! (and of course, we would have to fight virtually, online, because in real life, I am 98 pounds soaking wet).
I suppose if Flood does come back and has two 10+ win seasons in a row, I could see myself changing my mind about him.
Do you know how childish you sound spelling Flood that way? It's beneath third grade.
No, that's not my point. Rutgers appears to have patience, or more likely, no guts to pull the trigger. Love for Flood? Do your research on my posts the last several weeks like you plumb the depths of NCAA statistics and rankings and you will find out how wrong you are.
And I am not arguing anything. I am just posting the truth and facts. But some of you can't handle the truth or facts or what goes on in other places. You are so befuddled with hatred, you can't see how other places handle these things-like this: http://rutgers.forums.rivals.com/th...ed-on-two-counts-of-disorderly-conduct.52880/
When it comes to anything Rutgers, many of our fans seem willing to throw our own under the bus without giving them the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe Flood will be around long enough to let the arrested players who may get jail time back on the team after they serve their sentences.

And anyway I never hurt anybody that didn't deserve it. (A slight misquote from Chris Walken - who can name the movie?)
Everyone on this board acts like we are on an equal playing field with our member schools. We are not and will not be for five more years. Your on field expectations, with or without Flood, are simply unrealistic.
