Can Rutgers beat Illinois?
------------Do I think it's likely Rutgers beats Penn State? No.
But CAN Rutgers beat Penn State? Of course. Any given Saturday.
------------
fair enough[ on any given day any team can beat any team, on any given day will that day be nov 19th? God i hope so
Does a bear shit on Mars?
The key difference between Illinois and the PSU game is that we now have our QB.
Of course we can beat Penn State! I'm with Cheesesteak on this one. Any given Saturday it can happen. Don't you think the same question was asked from Penn State fans when they played Ohio State last week. So how did they do it? How did Penn Sate knock off Ohio State? Take a look at the stat sheet. Here it is.
1st downs- (Ohio State 19) (Penn State 13)
3rd Down Efficiency- (Ohio State 9 for 22) (Penn State 2 for 13)
Net Yards- (Ohio State 413) (Penn State 276)
Rushing Yards- (Ohio State 168) (Penn State 122)
Passing Yards- (Ohio State 245) (Penn State 154)
Time of possession- (Ohio State 37.19) (Penn State 22.41)
Passing- (Ohio State 28 for 43) (Penn State (8 for 23)
So how did the Lions win this one. They got beat in every stat category. I'll tell you why! There are certain times in every game where the opportunity presents itself for a game to be stolen regardless of how you played up to that point. You have to embrace that opportunity and capitalize on it. If you do, you can walk away with a win.

How? 2 blocked kicks = 10 pts
Yeah, Al. We know what you think.
Pedd St. has a better offense, a better defense, and far better special teams. So...no...we can't beat them...or at least we shouldn't be able to do so.
BTW, one blocked field goal and the Pedd St. fans are acting like they just won the Super Bowl. My how times have changed. There was a time when a home victory over OSU wouldn't be cause for such celebration. How many cars were burned, cows tipped, and couches lit on fire out there on Saturday night anyway ? I guess it's been a long time.
And one more thing: if Pennsylvania high school football is so good how come all of the best players on Pedd St.'s roster are from New Jersey ?
Hello all, first time poster. PSU fan coming in peace. in terms of beating us this year, that will be a tall task. I say it with love in my heart, but RU's Linebackers are really not good, and Barkley is one of the most talented running backs in the country. Also I'm glad to see your QB play last game was tolerable, but I would caution labeling any quarterback anything based on one game.
Just for fun, here's two separate stat lines from Rutgers QB's over the last 2 years:
Player 1: 22/38 220 yds 3 td's 2 ints Rutgers lost the game
Player 2: 28/42 386 yds 3 td's 1 int Rutgers won the game
Which stat line would you rather have from a QB? BTW both of these stat lines came against big 10 opponents.
Answers are
Player 1- Gio last week
Player 2- Chris Laviano vs Indiana (2015)
I'm not making this observation to gloat or troll or anything like that, I've just been reading people anointing Gio as this new savior (as Al just did) when I remember talking to some RU buddies of mine a couple years ago who were campaigning that Laviano was a huge improvement to Gary Nova. I'd recommend seeing how the season plays out before crowning Gio as your savior who's going to beat PSU or any other Big 10 team for the moment. I know it's a dead horse subject but until donations rise and RU can improve it's facilities, it's going to be nearly impossible to compete in the Big 10 east. (I've been up to Piscataway for games many times, lived in Jersey City for work for about 5 years so i'm quite familiar with the RU campus and facilities)
It's different this time. . . . .
I don't recall anyone here ever saying Laviano was a huge improvement over Nova. At his best, he was in the league of bad-mediocre Gary Nova. He had a few nice games, but he was not consistent.

Penn State had the advantage in some important stats, such as sacks, tackles for loss, plays of more than 20 yards, etc. And the overall yardage is a bit skewed by the bad snap that went over our punter's head and counted as negative team yardage, as well as the fact that we take victory-formation snaps in the shotgun. OSU certainly had an advantage in this respect, but it isn't as large as the raw numbers suggest.
The punt and field goal blocks also effectively took away offensive possessions for PSU, limiting the offense's production.
Essentially, Penn State won the battle at the line of scrimmage, played better special teams than Ohio State, and Franklin and staff out-coached Meyer and his. Any one of those things would have been absurd to entertain even just a few weeks ago, so for all three to happen in one night was really a special thing to watch.

Count me in the not-trolling camp with the other poster, but you really shouldn't do this to yourself. "It's different this time." Why? Because you're hoping and wishing it will be?
Rescigno played a decent game Saturday: 22-38, 220, 3 TD, 2 INT. ESPN assigned him a QBR grade of 49.0. That wouldn't crack the top 10 of the QBR rankings for the B1G this season. And we're talking about a guy who was a lightly recruited 3-star with only one other offer—Eastern Michigan.
Does that mean he's going to be bad? No. Maybe he shows a little something over the second half of the season. But I'm hard-pressed to believe he'll be a savior.

First, congrats on your win last week. I don't think we will win , but I'll be rooting till the end trying to will a W.I most closely follow rutgers in relation to penn state, but I can say with absolute certainty that in 2014 after Gary Nova threw 5 interceptions against PSU that leaving the stadium waiting in that GOD AWFUL line next to the bubble to catch the bus I heard RU fan after RU fan campaigning for Chris Laviano and how Gary Nova had just blown the hopes and dreams of that season. let's be honest, yes 8-4 was impressive but there wasn't a game on that schedule( including michigan) that you all wanted to win more than that game and the fans we heard all wanted Laviano to start the rest of the season
Even stranger when you consider Penn State had a FG blocked and a muffed punt that gave Ohio State the ball in the red zone. That was one strange win when you look at the stats. Special teams was great.
Bad day for Ohio St, could be called a lucky one for Penn St.Even stranger when you consider Penn State had a FG blocked and a muffed punt that gave Ohio State the ball in the red zone.
