Patrick has been railing since Quincy left the banks that we lack shooters. We do in general. Not having Issa available hurt us last night . However, we have to do a better job of putting our shooters in positions to launch the 3 with their feet underneath them . One of our possessions late with 10 on the clock, Mike was one on one, dribbling, almost losing his balance, and launching an off balance 3. We were running screen and roll with our bigs all night and we should have had Mike in the corner for the dish or the wing and then the launch. We should have also had Sa screen and pop because as a stretch 4, he can make that shot. Very little criticism of Coach who has done a great job this year but thought in the second half the offense got stagnant and he did not do enough to set up those plays. We only took 50 shots last night, which is somewhat deflated, because we were fouled 5-6 times for "and ones" that we did not convert ,but we did not run enough plays with ball movement and ball reversal to set up an open shooter. It seemed like Nigel was the only one confident enough to take a jump shot for most of that second half and we need the whole team including Corey taking that outside shot.

Williams is great for his hustle, motor and defense but was recruited to be our outside shooter. It really has never happened.

Its amazing that for going on four years now we still can't hit an outside shot.

Still we have improved so much and had we played a little better and less atrious refs we could have won this game. SHU could be a final 32 maybe sweet 16 team. Nice effort.

As the competition gets tougher shots are more difficult to make.In Rutgers case its far more difficult because the team lacks shooters ,ie, inside players who can finish around the basket and guards and small forwards that shoot off the dribble and or make stationary 3 point shots. The improvement in shooting for the rest of the season will be minimal because the roster is set and this skillset is more innate rather than learned through practice.Rebounding and playing defense are easier skills to be taught and see marked improvement.

Rutgers fans probably will have to wait until 2018 to see some shooters on the squad based on the number of high tier recruits Rutgers is after.

Goru7....you and I have had this discussionbefore. Do not count on RU for threes, they cannot make them and they dont have guys confident enough to shoot them. It is what it is, I do not think taking more of them will help percentage all that much. Just something Pikiell will have to work on with recruiting.

I thought the offense wasnt good in the 2nd half because of all the turnovers and sloppy play as RU was rushing things too much. Also big time credit to Seton Hall's defense as to why our offense failed.

Yes I agree Seton Hall's defense played better, and if you watched their second half against a ranked South Carolina team 2 games ago they were down 7 at the half and really clamped down, so it was no surprise as they are an excellent defensive team . However, I thought Coach made it easier on them with the lack of ball movement and ball reversal to set up open shots. There was too much one on one with very few assists. I also agree with you that the sloppy turnovers are worrisome. Most are unforced and preventable. We started out the year with a lot of sloppy turnovers , corrected it for a while, and now Fordham and Seton Hall we were atrocious again. . We need to clean that up.

we don't have great shooters in general, you can't argue that. That's not our players fault. That's not our current coach's fault--its because of decades of piss poor recruiting.

But we have to at least look for those 3s. i agree with goru and least set up some plays for them , we never seem to look for it. we have to find a way for Williams , Thiam and Johnson to have open looks. If they miss them so be it, we'll lose. but we are probably going to have some games where they make a few.

We do not set up the drive and kick almost ever. SHOE put us away on that last night (along with a few beautiful 1 on 1 in the paint moves by Delgado that were pretty much unstoppable)

Doesn't help that our best 3 point shooter didn't play. He might not have mattered but he also could have been the difference. He has the ability to get hot.

Thiam out was the difference in this game
Do not disagree Scarlet but Coach did not do a good enough job of getting Mike, Sa or Corey open 3 point looks. Nigel had his mid range game working and hit a 3 in the first half so I left him out. The differential was 5 to 3 tonite but teams like Michigan and Indiana are going to make 7-11 and we have to make 6 to win those games.

Its just one game. But we did hold SHOE to 38% shooting...problem is...we shot 36%

When you have two guy like Delgado and Sonogo BOTH getting 16 REBs it doesnt leave a lot of room for success when our big guy got zero(not a criticism...just a fact) SHU owned the boards....esp in the 2nd half. To win we would have to play a perfect game & shoot 48%...we didnt do either

SHU won the BE...they are a VERY GOOD team and we bested them for most of the game.
To me.....compared to last years team....thats progress I can live with

The challenge for Rutgers in the B1G is to score at least 70 points per game because league opponents have better 3 point shooters and inside scoring.
For Rutgers to win league games it must be a collaborative effort with different players stepping up .Coaching can only take the team so far .Execution on the court will be far more difficult because league competition is more talented than the out of conference schedule except for Miami and Seton Hall.

Seton Hall was able to pull away because they is 2 things well down the stretch - nailed some key 3s (maybe 3 or 4 in a short span) and dished it inside to Delgado who was nailing every hook shot and overpowering our C. If you do those 2 things well, you will win more often than not.

Agree completely with MikeFla.

Progress being made in incremental steps-----be patient .
