His performance is similar to Schiano. Why isn't he bad mouthed like Schiano and why is he able to go back to college football without the same questions as ScHiano?

Would love this to happen. Even if his defense sucks, it'd be nice to see a high powered offense on the banks.

However, #NoMoney #F_BarchiandBOG
Haha, I wish. It's not going to happen it was just something I saw on twitter with Kelly and the block R on his hat and shirt. Just joking around that's all.

He was wonderfully successful in college, Schiano didn't have close to that success. He didn't need to but he didn't even win the BE where he had more advantages than many of his competitors in the conference.

The unsuccessful NFL stint isn't the issue, it's the college results that aren't all that impressive.

BTW it's not as if Kelly sucks in the NFL, his 2 records are 10-6 and this year around .500. That's better than Schiano.

He didn't ruin a QB's career, change traditions, kick former players and their kids out of practice, have players dive at knees during victory formations, or piss off fans.

But the HC you're complaining about built a good ( not great) program out of a bad one and instilled discipline in the program.
One QB left after not doing enough to retain his starting position, but wanted to return to the program and Schiano , but because of transfer rules about scholarships had to find another school .
That HC your spinning misinformation about having players going for knees in victory celebrations , taught his players to never give up and had his RU D-line stay low to bull-rush the OL ( not going for their knees) when trying to get a turnover in games that had very little time left but RU (tb) could tie or win if they could force a turnover while other team was expecting to end te game unopposed.

.....kick former players and their kids out of practice.....

Ah....NOW I'm understanding the hatred by some supposed Rutgers fans for GS.
I thought he must have banged their wives, but it was not showing them the proper respect.
I should have figured.

I'm not a Bucs fan, but the guy he did that to did more for the team and the area than Greg could have ever dreamed of.

you've got to be kidding about ruining a QB's career...

Probably because Kelly has been to Rose Bowls and a BCS Title game. Unlike Schiano who never won a conference and who's biggest bowl win is the Texas Bowl.

The diving at the offense when in victory formation made him look like a fool. It certainly didn't make him popular in the NFL coach circles.

He has a winning record in the NFL.

That's something a lot of college coaches never had - although you'd think Schiano was the only one judging by this board.

Nick Saban 15–17
Steve Spurrier 12-20
Lou Holtz 3-10

Three guys who won national championships in college with losing records in the pros. But feel free to keep thinking Schiano was the only one.

One guy had Phil Knight bankrolling him and a state that loves their Ducks. One guy had fans who bitch like they throw millions at the program, but in reality have difficulty dropping pocket change in the coffers.

I was responding to a post that said that Chip had similar performance to GS. That is simply not true.

Performance is similar to Schiano ? In what way ?

That's like saying that Bud Harrelson's MLB career was similar to that of Ted Williams because they both played on the same field.

Not sure where to begin to compare the two. But if they are similar then why does every CFB program want Chip Kelly while Greg is a house Frau the past two years with no takers ?

Some people at Oregon complain that he never won the National Championship.

Yeah, but there's so much top-level high school talent in New Jersey.

So what did Cincy, UConn, and UCF had when they went to their BCS Bowl games?

You guys need some fact check. GS took over a 4-12 team with the worst D in the NFL and goes 7-9 with #1 rushing D and set a franchise record for total offense/points. Freeman quit on him the following year and D Martin got hurt.

Greg didn't bring a championship to RU and he promised, that's the only thing some think about when his name comes up.
Building a good ( not great) program from one considered the worst means nothing to them, he failed to make RU #1 and that's all that matters to them.
Tampa is their salvation when bringing his pro career up, the HC , even dismissing his Tampa replacement's putrid record his first year as the Buc's HC.

Nothing you say to some Schiano detractors will change their minds , they only know Schiano didn't bring home a championship and nothing he done for Rutgers will make up for that.
There are some that appricate what he accomplished at Rutgers, but feel his coaching wasn't good enough to make RU a top program. They are not the ones I'm talking about.

Lovie Smith is quietly rebuilding the Tampa franchise in year 2. Bucs now sit at 5-5 after thrashing Philadelphia last week. The people who try to make excuses for Greg by pointing to Lovie's record in year 2 in Tampa may no longer have that argument to fall back on.

Maybe Lovie has a better QB? Just saying.

If you're seriously asking this, you know nothing about football.

Lol. Yeah the argument goes out the window because he's playing with the #1 draft pick as QB - while Schiano had a guy out of the league now.

Sorry, the argument stands. Tampa Bay sucked and got worse after Schiano. If they didn't get Winston they'd be awful still

Greg waited until the 3rd round in 2013 to draft a QB for Tampa, choosing Mike Glennon. He traded the #1 pick for Darelle Revis and drafted a CB in Round 2. Apparently Greg didn't think that QB was a high priority or believed that a 3rd rounder would get the job done. Maybe after his team went 0-8 to start the season that theory was proven wrong ?

Your argument that Tampa still sucks if not for Jameis Winston is laughable and a lame excuse for Greg's poor performance in Tampa. Excuses never Looses as they say.

Please explain why Tampa did worse the year AFTER Schiano if Greg was so awful.

After you set a franchise record on offense, you don't draft a QB early. He also had the #1 ranked run defense so it makes sense he was trying to get better in the secondary. Let's wait and see where the Bucs finish before we give credit to Lovie. They beat the Eagles and Cowboys for the last two wins. Doesn't tell you much. Lovie needs to win 9 this year to tie GS record.

He also conveniently forgets that Schiano was NOT the general manager. I think it's cute he thinks a rookie NFL coach wields so much power LOL.
