how many times do we see a #2 man make the move to head coach and disappoint. She took the safe route but pretty hard to fault her actually. She is part of the best womens hoops dynasty ever...and probably in all of basketball. And its not just Geno who did it. She is a major cog in their success. She will be there to the end when Geno decides to go out.

She has to be there to the end, to complete the familiar "pull Geno back from the refs" overdone sideline scenario. Wouldn't be quite the same without that game-time drama.

So she was with Geno for 10 years before interviewing with RU, and we eventually went with CVS? I knew she interviewed, but does anyone on the board know if she was truly interested at that point, and would have made the jump had we offered? Just curious.

I didn't think so, always thought it was just more of a professional courtesy to her alma mater.

There was a story going around at some point that she was mad at RU for not offering her the job, but I never heard any actual source for that, so I'm a bit skeptical.

RU made the right call to go with the proven winner in CVS

also UConn was just in the beginning of its dominance, no one knew just how successful they would become

According to her late brother Mike, who I was friends with, Chris was very interested in the RU Head Coaching job when she was interviewed. The last time I spoke to Mike a couple of months before he passed away in 2013, he told me that the only job that Chris would leave UConn for was the RU Head Coach job. As a sidebar when Chris came to New Brunswick for the Head Coach interview, upon checking into the Hyatt, she was told that she would have to pay for any room service she ordered or any long distance phone calls she made while at the Hyatt, this was per directive of RU Athletic Director Fred Gruninger

Seems Fred Gruninger had a way of making a lasting impression.

As I remember it, Chris was not interested. Or not interested in the terms. She had a good thing going and didn't want to give it up. I had some good sources at the time and got the feeling that the university was going for a proven head coach. To be honest, I was a Chris fan and initially disappointed. I hadn't heard the "no room service or calls on the RU tab" story and, if the source were not her brother, would question that. Doesn't sound right.

I think the "sit down demonstration" played a part in the final decision, as did the then RU president, but could be mistaken. Do not know this as fact, just opinion of my "good sources."

It all turned out for the best, IMHO.

Think about it, whyt would she leave. She makes a 6 figure salary, is associated with a proven winner coach and program. She can live the good life without all of the responsibilities, headaches, disappointments, and struggles that come with being a head coach. Not having to trust her success on the whim of an eighteen year-old

If she wanted to leave she would have done so years ago.

Chris will never leave Geno, unless he kicks her out of the nest. Get m y drift

Cyn: Chris herself told me that after the interview that she knew that RU was not interested in hiring her, & that RU knew who they would be hiring before the interview process started & they were only going through the motions with the interviews. As to why she would be interested in the RU job, at the time her parents still lived close by, since that time her Dad passed away but her Mom still lives locally. Like I said, in 2013 according to her Brother, Chris was still interested in the RU job & that her Brother Mike said it was the only job that Chris would consider leaving UConn for. Water under the bridge.
