Knew he was amazing but gdamn that’s crazy.. ur something special when yianni gave such high praise for him…. Happens every year… a crazy freshman arrives on the scene yet we are still surprised by it every year…Meyer Shapiro dominates Bryce Andonian 16-4.
Yeesh, yeah no one is going to beat CStar this year.. thought Griffith mighta had small chance… someone here laughed when I said Iowa fresh, Gabe Arnold could be Cstar’s biggest threat this season… that is unless he RS or goes 184.Now - true freshman Lorenzo Norman, a Jersey kid, just beat Shane Griffith. 4-2 rode Griffith for over 2 minutes.
Could be going through a soph slump.. ppl always assume that wrestlers will always improve year over year , but I seen plenty of times where a wrestler has his best season his freshman year or as an underclassman.Eddie Ventresca went 0-2, losing both by MD to two unranked wrestlers. He is now 2-7 on the season... what a miserable start for him after finishing 7th last year.
As impressive as he was vs Andonion... He was outwrestled vs Cardenas...Shapiro is really, really good. He won multiple world freestyle titles in different age groups, so it's really no surprise he is dominating. I said it previously, but he was the favorite to win at 157 this year.
Then lost his first wrestle back match to Chumbley from Northwestern 2-1. College wrestling is a grind!!As impressive as he was vs Andonion... He was outwrestled vs Cardenas...
While he is very talented ,he has a very questionable gas tank and doesnt look nearly strong enough for 157. He lost to 2 non AAs and I can’t see him beating Haines or Peyton Robb. He probably should’ve went 149 this yearShapiro is really, really good. He won multiple world freestyle titles in different age groups, so it's really no surprise he is dominating. Still early my money is he figures it out by years end.. yeah if he ends up not AA then yeah probably shouldn’t have went this yearWhile he is very talented ,he has a very questionable gas tank and doesnt look nearly strong enough for 157. Wask was teammates with Norman from Blair.. yeah our chances with Blair kids… seems like our recruiting strategy isn’t getting the top top prospects and walkons but rather allocating resources on bunch of mid prospects n have balance dual team..reminds me of fantasy auction draft where u can go route of grabbing gtd point scorers and fill out rest of roster w $1 guys or grab a lot of guys in middle range n have more balance.. can’t get everyone unless ur PSU and have unlimited bankroll..Other Jersey related results. Danny Wask, from Wantage, who is a freshman at Navy beat Norman and gets Wittlake in the semi-finals. Norman still alive in the wrestle backs. Fernandes the former NJ state champ beat Catka of Virginia Tech 9-3. Fernandes will wrestle Boone McDermott in the wrestle backs. Cardenas from Bergen Catholic has Hilday in the semifinals. Ramirez from Blair in semi-finals and gets David Carr. Unger from Flemington has DeAugustino in the semi-finals at 125.
Top 5 team leaders are Iowa State, Ohio State, Nebraska, Cornell, and NC State. Virginia Tech is currently at # 11.
This is a great tournament with many upsets.
I think he’ll be fine come tournament timeWhile he is very talented ,he has a very questionable gas tank and doesnt look nearly strong enough for 157. He lost to 2 non AAs and I can’t see him beating Haines or Peyton Robb. He probably should’ve went 149 this year
Boone had an excellent tournament.. noticed he picked up ranked wins over Nevills, Trephan, Fernandes, Greiss, and is in the third place bout.. wowBoone picked up a nice win on the back side
Cardenas and Fernandes can only wrestle 1 more year for Cornell but both have 1 more year of eligibility, Fernandes possibly 2 so we ll see both of them somewhere other than Cornell next seasonWask was teammates with Norman from Blair.. yeah our chances with Blair kids… seems like our recruiting strategy isn’t getting the top top prospects and walkons but rather allocating resources on bunch of mid prospects n have balance dual team..reminds me of fantasy auction draft where u can go route of grabbing gtd point scorers and fill out rest of roster w $1 guys or grab a lot of guys in middle range n have more balance.. can’t get everyone unless ur PSU and have unlimited bankroll..
Some reason thought heard Fernandes was done wrestling at Cornell, guess not..
Can’t remember a year wit this many upsets this early on.. maybe it’s the rule change? The parody is great
Had no idea Wask was from Wantage , always hate seeing a kid go private when his home public school is a top flight programOther Jersey related results. We don’t really have a spot for Cardenas but Fernandes is a public school kid who I know has stayed in touch with a lot of wrestling people in the area. I think he’s a real possibility.Cardenas and Fernandes can only wrestle 1 more year for Cornell but both have 1 more year of eligibility, Fernandes possibly 2 so we ll see both of them somewhere other than Cornell next season
That’s pretty bad ass… I’m bored so I’ll decide to tech him instead of pin him.. lol .. would be a nice addition after Yara is done.We don’t really have a spot for Cardenas but Fernandes is a public school kid who I know has stayed in touch with a lot of wrestling people in the area. Granted heavyweight was pretty weak at the time but his senior year will never be topped as the single most dominant season by a New Jersey high school wrestler. 47-0, 37 pins (35 in the first period including a national record 3 second pin), 9 forfeits, 1 TF (15-0 against the #2 kid in state, he was bored and said he wanted to show his ability to score.) Just ridiculous especially considering he only weighed like 230
Doesn’t Yara have another year after this? That’s pretty bad ass… I’m bored so I’ll decide to tech him instead of pin him.. lol .. would be a nice addition after Yara is done.
Yeah he might not sure.. hopefully he doesDoesn’t Yara have another year after this?
Yes he does, whether he takes it is another question. LolDoesn’t Yara have another year after this?
I’m don’t know the match-up…who would win Boone or Yara?Yes he does, whether he takes it is another question. Lol
Yara would def be the fav.. but after Boone’s 4th place performance at CLKV.. it’s going to be closer then we would have thought.I’m don’t know the match-up…who would win Boone or Yara?
Boone is a better wrestler this year? What changed?Yara would def be the fav.. but after Boone’s 4th place performance at CLKV.. it’s going to be closer then we would have thought.
who knows, some ppl get more motivation and improve the following year.. he beat some solid guys at CKVL that not sure last year’s version of him woulda beaten.Boone is a better wrestler this year? What changed?
