Congrats to Ex Rutgers Coach P.J. Fleck his WMU squad cracked A.P. top 25.

Hopefully Fleck will be willing to come back in five years after Ash leaves to take over as Wisconsin's head coach.

Where the hell is Paul Chryst going?

He's doing well so far at Wisconsin but he didn't exactly light the world on fire at Pitt. However, let's think positive and say he does a Bret Bielema.

Rumoured to be in the mix at Purdue if DH goes.

Hopefully Fleck will be willing to come back in five years after Ash leaves to take over as Wisconsin's head coach.

Cool. Then we can hire Darell Hazell--Jersey guy who understands New Jersey coaching landscape, and trained under Schiano, AND coming to us with HC experience. Checks all of the boxes. Sign me up now.

and now WMU is 9-0, but its clear they still can't build a sizable fanbase

I am also a Purdue alum, and I am geeked about the growing possibility of Fleck coming to West Lafayette*....

check out the quick video.

Other than a completely novel system at the right time (Tiller in 1997), a leader with a dynamic personality and endless drive is the only way to make up for the natural recruiting disadvantages for Purdue (not being surrounded by as much talent as OSU).

*as for why he would consider going there, keep in mind Purdue is a full partner in Big Ten tv money and has major facility upgrades underway. and it is the closest job to Fleck's home area of Chicagoland.

I mocked Fleck for his row the boat mantra for years. Not afraid to admit now that he looks like he is more than getting the job done and is ready to take the step to coaching a P5 team. Yeah, he is goofy, but who cares if he produces a winning team?

He should win the MAC this year. This is the year to do it. The path is clear for him, a couple of the better coaches have left the conference in Dino Babers/Matt Campbell and others in the couple years before.

If he wins the conference and possibly gets into a new year's game, he'll deserve a shot and there's a good chance he'll get one. Like you I'm not a fan of the antics and still see a Brady Hoke redux. I'll have to see it to believe it for him on the P5 level. You can say that about any coach that steps up from a coordinator or mid major HC position but I feel that more about Fleck.

If he is going to jump he better do it while he is hot or his stock can go down fast. The MAC is pretty weak this year so he should be able to take them to a NY6 bowl where they will get blown out by whoever. He should leave before the bowl game.

PJ getting a lot of love in media nationaly..gotta love his hype for the game..hope he gets a power five job..hes earned it.

Whose stock is higher right now? 9-0 Fleck or 7-2 Hermann after losing to Navy & SMU?
I'd still say Herman, he's already done what Fleck has and more....in a tougher conference too. He's already got a bigger contract too. Regardless of what happens you can just look at the quality of jobs where their names are linked. In the past I've seen Fleck linked to Illinois (not open now), Purdue etc.. but Herman lately, whether he leaves or not, has been linked to Texas, LSU, USC, ND. It also goes to show it's not easy to have those special years annually and Fleck should probably jump if he gets the opportunity.

His pregame speech and his other antics are completely corny. I'd be snickering in the back if I played for him. Yet, he has WM at 9-0, so what to I know. Its not easy to go 9-0, so he is doing something right.

You guys are thinking about this wrongly. imho.

If Ash does well enough here to get hired by Alvarez at Wisconsin, I think he stays here or does better than Wisconsin. And if that's the case we are very happy.

Agree with this...

Pj played our schedule he be 1-4

But he doesn't, however, he recruited better than most MAC teams the last few years and...BAMM....turned this program around. Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting. Can't say it enough (without even mentioned that bum's name...).

For our purposes, notice how he did not do this in year one or two. Why? Recruiting. He had the team he had when he arrived, and then he had three straight years of the top recruiting class in that conference, and now he's winning. It's not rocket science, and coaches don't just arrive and sprinkle magic coaching dust that improves a team. It takes time to recruit the right players and, less important but important nonetheless, get your system in place. That's why the most important thing about this year is after this year, which is to say the recruiting class. And it'll be the same next year. That's where we are.

This makes no sense... you're saying that Ash is the reason we won one of our games, yet our two wins are against teams we are vastly superior to talent wise?

also ,PJ has TWO B10 wins..this season..for all the bashers..

I'm aware of his 2 B10 wins, Northwestern is a solid win for a WMU especially. He's having a nice run this year and he should win his conference, there's really no one in his way. The better coaches have left over the years including 2 last year. So it's his time to win the MAC. Forget about the New Year's game, he should win the conference though. If somehow he doesn't, that would be a big letdown.

The reason I'm not a fan is because he reminds me of a poor man's James Franklin. It's not even the corny saying, everyone has their own. Row the boat may be cornier than most but who cares. I just feel that they're always playing for the cameras and there's a certain "phonyness" about them to me. So it's a turnoff to me. Many here don't like Harbaugh for his antics but I think he's genuinely a good coach and that he's genuinely an eccentric weirdo. I don't know that he's playing for the camera all that much. He's just got a little bit of screw loose IMO. I don't feel that about Franklin/Fleck.

Personality aside though, I still see Brady Hoke redux as far as performance. Regardless he's likely to get his shot in the P5 so we'll see how he does.

Whoever "gets it done" for RU in the B1G will be on top of the coaching world in the most important media market in the world. Why would that person leave?

"Not that there is anything wrong with that."

Two threads? LOL

Except PJ would have been recruiting the past four years instead of you-know-who. If he recruits that well at Western Michigan, what makes you think he can't recruit here?
