Cool Rutgers Memorabilia You Own

I just bought the 1969 Chevrolet-commissioned Football Centennial Poster/Paintings done by the recently deceased Arnold Friberg (he also did the posters for the Ten Commandments movie and paintings like George Washington kneeling in prayer next to his horse at Valley Forge). Got all four of the historical football posters/paintings for a great price since you can't send away for these anymore. Among the four is Arnold Friberg's "The First Game" which everyone has probably seen. If not go to the website below.

So I thought it would make an interesting thread to see what other unusual or rare Rutgers memorabilia (especially football) that you have. One person I heard about, saved his actual wooden seat from the original Rutgers Stadium, another I know has the October 25, 1873 Rutgers at Yale football program.

I have one RED Izod La Coste sock.Relic from the Frank Burns Era. Would wear the RED socks for Good Luck. Worked very well until the "BIG time LITTLE prepared" era happened.

I have the first day of issue cover (framed) of the college football centennial postage stamp issued at the College Avenue Gym on the day prior to the Centennial Game against Princeton. I also have a copy of the football centennial commemorative dish picturing an artist's rendition of the first game. Those were sold at the Rutgers bookstore that season.

I have a few things in my collection, nothing historically significant, mostly just stuff sentimental to me.

As for "old" stuff, I have a copy of "FOOTBALL FUNDAMENTALS Basic Strategy and Teaching Methods" by coach Bateman and a copy of "Jericho: A Modern system of Defense" By Dewey King.

As for newer stuff, I have a signed Brian Leonard Jersey, Game Programs from a few of our bowl games, a framed "Pandemonium in Piscataway" stadium pic by mkollar and the rally towels handed out that night, unused thundersticks from the Insight Bowl and a few other odds and ends, mostly related to the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

That's a a very cool item to have. There were 41,000 at Palmer Stadium that day to watch Rutgers defeat Princeton 22-6. The historical value of having the team sign a football from the first game Rutgers ever won AT Princeton is definitely a Rutgers sports memorabilia Holy Grail.

I stapled my September 25, 1976 Rutgers-Princeton ticket to a sliver of the goal posts that were broken in half by Rutgers students after a 17-0 win by the Scarlet Knights.

I have some game-worn jerseys from the '97, '04 and '05 seasons, field jacket from the late '70's, Centennial Game medallion, an '09 team-signed ball, game programs from every bowl game we've been to, and after watching us not go to bowl games for decades, I still love this:

I have a unopened six pack of original Antique mint condition, vintage Budwieser pull top cans that were at the 1976 Rutgers/Colgate game in East Rutherford. Rutgers won the game 17-9 completing an undefeated season. It is very rare to find beer of this vintage! The bidding is now open on this one of kind, historic piece of Rutgers football history.

This something similar that I DON'T have and want....

Notre Dame sells pins for their games that feature the opponent of the day. I want the one from the last game in the old ND Stadium (which was also the last game for Lou Holtz). I waited too long while in South Bend and was too cheap to buy the whole set they sold at the ND Bookstore.

I have the special t-shirt they sold but really want the pin for my hat.

Similar to JoeRU0304, I have bowl patches for each of the bowl games dating back to 1978.

Most recently, I was fortunate enough to obtain the signatures of Devin and Jason McCourty during the Hall of Distinguished Alumni Dinner this year.

Though not "athletic" in nature, it is fun to have one of each of the beer steins given to graduates of the Ag School, Cook College and the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences from 1970 to 2006.

It is also very cool to own one of the original academic regalia with the original 17 "Q" 66 on its chest and one of the last academic dean's tams from the administrative side before we became an "instrumentality of the State."
