Corey Not Starting

He might play better coming off the bench. And he'll be in the game down the stretch.

Missed flight coming back to school after christmas

Missed the flight getting back to campus yesterday so he missed practice.

Pike sending a message and taking a loss in doing so. I just wished he said something earlier in the day before people placed bets on the game :/. Offensive issues will be even worse.

A team that lacks scoring threats can't have their starting point guard miss practice prior to flying to Wisconsin.

Coaches decision?
Corey Sanders has to grow up and act like the leader of this team. The team still looks up to him and defers to him.. I am sure there might be a reasonably reason he missed his flight or connection but you just cannot do that if you are trying to invoke night and day. Coach did the right thing sitting him for 10 minutes and sending a direct message that you are not bigger than the team.
However , even more disappointing was he was terrible when he played. He shot 1-11, missed numerous layups and was out of control and did not look to get Mike the ball or the big guys the ball on the block. His defense was also lousy. He left Showalter 3 times late in the clock looking to help in the paint that was not necessary and Showwalter hit 2 threes and was fouled at the 3 Point line and made 2-3 shots. He then got beat off the dribble by Showalter for a layup. This was all before he got hurt. I watched the Maryland guards both Trimble and the freshman go to the rack and make layups. Corey and Nigel do not go strong enough and miss a number of layups which lead to run outs on the other end. Very disappointing in Corey all around . We need him to be a top guard he can be but his focus has to be razor sharp and Brandin Knight should be in his ear from here on out.

Goru...I know we have been at odds this year but I fully agree with you. To me opening Big 10 game on the road against the team picked to win the league and you better do everything in your power to make sure that you are there and ready to go, I think the guy on tv said Pikiell said if everyone else can make it, corey could make it.

And his play was poor and that play where he got hurt was prime example and unfortunately he ended up paying for that.

The light needs to go non in his head. Shooting the way he does from the outside, out of control forced layups are limiting his NBA aspersions but continued disciplinary issues will put the nail in his NBA coffin

Anybody here ever miss a plane?

" He who has never missed a flight throw the first stone".

The comments in this thread are kinda silly, especially when no one knows the reason. What if it was a flat tire or being stuck behind an accident or an Uber driver that never came to pick him up ?

Please. I'll throw the first stone. How many games has Corey been suspended or benched for various reasons in 1 1/2 years? It's always something.

Explain to me why he missed the flight? With details Please.

This is an open question to everyone.....please provide the details

Chopping I have never missed a flight

There are many people who have missed flights and sometimes it's unavoidable and sometimes it's avoidable.

No one knows the situation but all you guys are ready to paint him guilty.

The punishment would have been given out in both situations because the bottom line was missing practice.

We don't know what happened and it could've been Corey's fault. Let's just say it's much easier to get a ride to the airport on time from your family memeber in Randolph NJ then one from Corey's town.

It's called commitment.

You are still not explaining the reason he missed the flight. Are you stating he should have shown the commitment by staying on campus and not flying home to visit his family and grandmother who he is very close to?

Chopping your being childish. My daughters 5th grade travel hoops team comes with COMMITMENT. You miss a practice you DON'T play. Spelled out pretty clearly at the 5TH GRADE LEVEL. I'm sure it is spelled out even more chrystal clear on the COLLEGIATE level.

Stop arguing a STUPID point

But he did play. I think this mixed signal from coach is the root of the disagreement.

You are missing the whole point. He is supposedly the leader of this team and the team defers to him and looks to him to run the offense . If he was a senior or if this was a senior laden team, the other seniors would chew his ass out for costing them a chance to win. Then to make matters worse , he comes in and tries to go to the basket out of control and does not set up the offense , which looked atrocious. He ends the night before the injury, 1-11 , and his defense and cheating against Showalter came back to bite us in the ass. The defensive effort by most everyone else was outstanding. He has to grow up fast and lead this team . No ifs, ands, or buts.

If he missed the plane because somebody did not get him to airport on time (he's not driving himself there) what can he do? At that point he's not "costing them a chance at the game" the coach is doing that.

"Hey guys, Corey's uncle ran late at work and couldn't get him to the airport on time so he missed practice. He'll be ready to go by tip".

"Hey guys Corey's uncle ran late at work and couldn't get him to the airport on time; it may not have been his fault but we can't have that here; Corey will sit the first ten minutes and then give us a lift. Otherwise business as usual."

We don't know the exact details. If it wasn't his "fault" why sit him ten minutes. If it was then why play him at all? That's no punishment.

More than likely coach doesn't know what the real reason was, Corey gave him so excuse, and he handed him a timeout in the corner. He couldn't decide and chose ten minutes. Mixed signal. Probably most likely situation but you never know.

The only disagreement is that you would like certainty in whether or not he's going to play at all because you only care about point spreads and Choppin' just likes to make excuses for every coach or player under the guise of being the one "true and loyal Rutgers fan". Beyond you two, seems to be everyone is 100% in agreement with Coach and disappointed in Corey.

Regardless of the reason, everyone is expected to be at practice. If you aren't you will be disciplined in some way that the coach feels is appropriate which is what happened. That's SOP for every team at every level that I've ever been associated with.

I think everyone is in agreement with the Ideal of the team being bigger than any one player and that when that expectation isn't met there should be real discipline.

I'm not sure what occurred tonight and the circumstance of which brought that action about falls in line with the above.

You need to go back and read my comments. I never said he should not miss time and serve a 10 minute suspension. Of course he should.....you miss practice and there must be consequences.

My comments are limited to the stupid comments attacking him as immature or lacking commitment when no one knows why he missed his flight. You are jumping to conclusions and rushing to judgement without having any information.

Your ALL CAPS to point out my childish behavior is funny....especially when you attempt to completely misrepresent what I posted.

How is it a mixed signal? Punishments can vary.

Does the punishment fit the "crime" or vice versa? I don't think so. You clearly disagree. There is nothing wrong with that.

Most of these kids just want to win (i hope). I just know if my teammate missed a flight but showed up for shoot around I'd want him starting so I can win.
