Hey all

Any news / tidbits from the meeting tonight?

Maybe we can get it all in this thread vice pieces in various threads.

TIA!

Unlike this year, next year's schedule will be front loaded with road games including at Seton Hall, Fordham, and UMass and potentially Gavitt and ACC/Big Ten Challenge games.

Though Pikell said possible Road game for Gavitt Games - I think game will be home as our last 2 games were on road At St Johns; At Depaul

We never seem to participate in any pre season tournaments of note, and there are so many these dags. Last one we were in that was decent was legends and pre season NIT

You are right. You'll know that we are finally good when we are invited to some of the great tournaments. It is always the same names that go to those tournaments and they just alternate every year.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Coach Pikiell always is a great speaker because of his humor and passion to make Rutgers relevant in college basketball after so many consecutive losing seasons. The immediate goal is to have a winning season with the ultimate goal dancing after a NCAA bid. There were minimal substitutions in the St.Johns scrimmage because he wanted to win the game.Pikiell mentioned the importance of the practice facility construction beginning and the positive vibe after the football team win on Saturday.

Jerry Carino predicted a winning season for Rutgers followed by NIT and NCAA bids in the near future.Mulcahy is the top recruit target for 2019.

Big thanks to @BKIn118 for putting this together. Last night was my first ever Court Club meeting and I had a blast. Pikiell was so informative and down to earth. He's excited to get some NLIs this week.

Carino, as always, was great too. I loved his tidbit about players on the team loving playing here and starting to spread the word about Pikiell's coaching ability.

Those were not “predictions” by Carino about NIT and NCAAs in 2019 and 2020. He characterized them as realistic goals for those seasons.

Hope RU alums, students and fans show support Friday and Sunday at the RAC.

All of you that live in the metro area should try to make at least one of the games.

Other notes:

  1. BK pulled an LBJ and will not seek nor will he accept another term as our (Court Club) President
  2. Geo’s only other high major offer was K-State according to Jerry but he is definitely a high major player and Jerry seemed very impressed
  3. Jerry thought RU would’ve taken Shaq Carter even if McClung hadn’t decommitted because even though technically we were out of ships, spots always open.
  4. Jerry thinks there’s a chance Corey returns for senior year
  5. Jerry said Deshawn would be considered an all conference forward if he was in Big East
  6. Coach says they track everything and between practices and games Corey shot about 17% from three last year and is shooting 57% this year

Also, Coach Pikiell is really easy to root for. He may have shaken just about everyone’s hand and thanked them personally for coming before speaking and taking questions for about an hour. He is really entertaining, honest, and funny.

Coach Pikiell gets it and knows what needs to be done in every aspect of our program. He loves the job and mixing with the fans.

Thanks to all for these insights. I'm totally psyched for the season to start and incredibly grateful to have Coach Pike here on the banks.

Other items spoken about last night that immediately come to mind:

Pikiell:
-Doucore is a fouling machine; in practice, he can foul five times on the same possession...lol
-this team is very coachable and the locker room atmosphere is much better; last season there were too many clubhouse lawyers (Nigel?)
-needs a team filled with players with all 10 toes in the water, that's what he's got now; there were players with only six toes in last year, they're gone (Nigel?)
-Gettys is playing for a top hoops team in the U.K.; recently had a game with 28 points
-loved the fact Gettys came back to practice with RU players during the summer; said he said he went to UNC-Wilmington for four years, but he's now a Rutgers guy through and through
-Myles Johnson didn't play vs. SJU because the individual match-ups didn't favor him; his conditioning needs to improve; feels his makeup and conditioning will be much better by next season

Carino:
- was informed Doucore committed nine fouls vs. Yale (no one fouls out in the closed scrimmages)
-thinks Jay Young should be a head coach; should have gotten the Stony Brook or Central Connecticut State jobs; thinks Calhoun might have pulled a few strings to get Donyell Marshall at CCSU

I am sure Doucoure will be working a lot with Coach Young. That kind of fouling will not allow him to get his freshman player of the year.

Hopefully he sees improvement in that area. Doorson didn't jump out to me too much at the game. Sa grabs the ball like he just had a handful of fries from Rutgers Diner. Nerves were probably high for both. Doucoure is a needed piece.

Interesting that unless something changed in the last day or two Marshall and I believe an assistant have been suspended by the school for what has been described as a personnel issue. We play them Sunday.
