I had a hypothetical argument with an older family member over this.

The family member said the signing thing

    My response was:
    - most checks are echecks nowadays
    - credit card receipt signatures are useless unless you claim it wasn't you and they need to get them for proof
    - for contracts many are now esignatures
    - for buying a new home or car you have to sign but a squiggly line can be a signature
    - for voting and banking it may be required to match

you have a "most" and Many" here.....but that means, not all....there are probably situations where one still has to sign....of course, they could probably still scribble their way through it, and get away with it.

Reason #9,652 and counting on why you should send your kids to private school. Not only is the skill itself important, it is linked to improving grammar skills and reading comprehension. Our school starts cursive in 2nd grade.

For Christmas this year, give your kids the gift of a private school education! Thank you President Trump and Senator Ted Cruz for expanding 529 benefits to private school tuition.

SO GREAT that it's gone! Let's hope it's replaced with something that triggers Zees like LGBT history or evolution.

Cursive is much faster for note taking.

I had classes where a lot of material wasn't "in the book." I got in the habit of taking thorough notes. I also took many notes as I read. I read my notes today and they are amazing

The idea of printing notes seems like punishment - like a pharaoh demanding bricks be made without straw.

I have always had terrible handwriting. I regret this, because the ability to write cursive is valuable. Repeated studies have shown that taking notes by hand is superior in the classroom to taking notes by keyboarding. Printing is worthless as a way of taking notes -- it's too slow -- so some form of cursive is necessary. The problem is the Palmer method, which is difficult to master and to read. What we need is to teach italic writing, which is easier to keep legible.

My handwriting was awful. And to think, we practiced the Palmer stuff before even embarking on cursive. Somehow it never took. On overseas trips, always carried a little green notebook and made cryptic, abbreviated reminders in script a chicken would be ashamed to claim. Good luck some nefarious spy left over from Mad Magazine stealing it. As obscure as an ancient Hittite scroll would be. Except to me.

I'm worse; even I can't read my own handwriting, so I've never been good at taking notes.
