Looks like Danny Hurley is mastering thinning the herd and opening up scholarships ... which isn't done often enough in Piscataway. These notes on A10 transfers [excertped from linked article]. BTW, is the Kethan Savage mentioned here a relative of (1989?) Rutgers hoops star Tom Savage?

A-10 TRANSFERS -- Former UMass guard Derrick Gordon isn't the only Atlantic 10 player looking to finish his career elsewhere. George Washington was hit hard with the loss of junior Kethan Savage, who averaged 11.7 points and 4.8 rebounds. While the Colonials underachieved this season, there was enough talent returning that they had a chance to move up in the league next season. But the departure of the versatile 6-foot-3 guard is a blow to that.

Rhode Island lost three players, none of whom figure to drastically affect its prospects for 2015-16.

Big man Jarelle Reischel (3.0 points per game) and point guard Biggie Minnis (3.7 ppg) will each take advantage of the NCAA's graduate transfer rule and will be immediately eligible. Sophomore guard Matthew Butler (1.7 ppg) will have to sit out, but will have two years remaining.

Like Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure's two transfers look more like a chance to create available scholarships than significant losses.

Neither freshman guard Jalen Adams nor sophomore big man Xavier Smith played in half of the Bonnies' games this past season.

If it was said any RU HC was thinning the herd, the complaints would outweigh the praise.
But talking players that are not helping the program to leave is a good idea along with opening the
door for malcontents to leave is a good idea to help the locker-room attitude.

Graduate transfers (URI two of them) might not be as much as the players leaving because they got their degree and
want to use their final year of eligibility playing more ( lower level) or getting a free ride at a school that has a graduate course the school they are at doesn't have or not as good of one.

Glad to see other schools transfers considered a good thing, rather than the RU sky is falling approach

No it would not. Not a good coach moving guys that don't play.
We are just shell shocked. And we haven't won in forever.

From the Okoro Gone thread:

"What a cluster F this program is."

11 players have left UVa in Tony Bennett's 6 seasons, including the latest, freshman B.J. Stith, the son of UVa's all-time leading scorer and a member of a storied basketball family.

Stith leaving UVa

Danny Hurley is a masterful recruiter and can out recruit Jordan any day.... as evidenced by the 2 players with Rhode Island offers that signed with Rutgers last year.

News flash.... This is a Rutgers basketball board..... enough with the Hurley threads. They don't coach here. If they did, I would support them and follow them.... Give it a rest.

That's one thing I think EJ does well. Think of the players that have transferred his 1st 2 years...if they can't play, they seem to leave after the season.

There may be a Rhode Island board. You can express your love for Hurley on that board with the rest of their fans.

You expected him to win NIT games in the two years he was at Wagner ?

he inherited a disaster at Rhody and took them from 6 to 23 wins in 3 seasons.

Im going to go out on a limb here and guess that you must be a tough guy to work for ?

Hurley did take over a poor team that was 7-24 the year before he was hired.
But the program wasn't a disaster , going :
19-14
21-12
23-11
26-10
& 20-14 in the five seasons before that losing one under Jim Baron.
Baron's 2011-12 season started badly and he lost his top scorer ( dismissed) and a veteran player for academic reasons.
The team was a disaster Baron's last season, bit it was a winner for 5 straight years before that and in the NITs 3 of those 5 years (CBI once)

Hurley is doing a good job there, but shouldn't be considered a miracle worker.

In a far less competitive environment, hard to see his performance as better than Gary Waters here. Jury very much out on him as a coach.

Well it really doesn't matter how well Danny may fare here since we are going to see at least one more year of EJ like it or not. People on this board should hold him to the same standards that they seem to have for Danny. If EJ was showing the ability to do the same here I think most would recognize it and believe he has a chance to be successful. I don't see it at this juncture. That's the problem.

My standards are Eddie came into a mess.
1'st year a mulligan
2nd year a beginning .
Third year show hope for future.
4th year team must show vast improvement from 2nd year or the door.

If people would hold Jordan to the standards they are holding Hurley, Eddie wouldn't be put down so much.
Danny was 8-21 and 14-18 his first 2 years as the Rams HC and didn't walk into half the mess Jordan did
Seems the bar is set high for Eddie, but lowered for Danny.

The Hurley clan is not interested in RU unless we are willing to take Dad's low P5 or no P5 recruits from St. Anthony's. EJ is RU's coach for at least the next two seasons, deal with it, better yet support it. That's what a fan is supposed to do.
