Deadspin skewers Etou

Why is the deadspin wasting their time with this? They must be looking for material.

Looks like a piece just thrown out there to catch the readers eye. Even if it is old news that didn't amount too much the first time around.
Maybe deadspin thinks the second time will be the charm the first time wasn't .

Deadspin takes a cheap shot at EJ - but then again Deadspin has never lost any sleep worrying about the veracity of their stories.

In any event, the Etou age issue may well tie into the whole RU - Etou saga - not sure - if it turns out that Etou was in fact two years older than everyone was willing to believe - then it might explain a bit -
Frankly, it always seemed like Etou was unable to become who he was anticipated to potentially be - - he came to RU with a recruiting profile that said : Ht: 6-8 Wt: 230 Optimistic? maybe ..Exaggeration? (don't they all?) but even factoring in the optimism, it seemed that it was felt that he would grow - that he was 19 and he had not 'topped-out' & he would be able to get a bit taller & put on some pounds and evolve into a certain type of player ... well if he was actually 21 .. and had gotten all of the growth that going to get ... maybe it sheds some light
So, if this year's RU roster was more accurate in calling him 6'7" and 230 - and if that is what he is 'all grown up' - it sort of paints a picture of a bit of a different body/ body- type of player - and different from what some felt he might be able to grow into being. He is a talented guy ... but maybe he is just a bit different from what some felt he could become ..

C'mon - not that it matters but the evidence is overwhelming that he was born in 1992 not 1994.

I had a lot higher hopes for Luc. For whatever reason it didn't work out.

Sheridan could have his scholarship pulled shortly if Gibbs or Ellison are coming. That would be a real awkward conversation between Eddie and Sheridan's parents.

yeah - all of the evidence should have been a real wake-up call - but somehow the authorities that had to review his info accepted what ever was provided and let it all slide .

My point was - in a variation on the old Football Coach Dennis Green quote - 'he was NOT who we (or at least many) thought he was (or could become)' -
Looking back at some more of the recruiting info from when Etou was a high school senior - several sites listed him (optimistically) as 6' 8" and 225 lbs ... and it seemed that a lot of chatter mentioned that he had many similarities to his cousin - Serge Ibaka (6'10" 245lbs) and it certainly seemed like there were hope/dreams/projections that this "19 (?) year old high school senior" still had some growing to do - and could grow another 2 inches and put on 20 pounds - and that his game would grow similarly - a lot of 'he will be a monster when he is all grown up' Well - the two years of age question that were swept under the rug may have had a lot more significance - He got to RU & his actual listed height was not augmented with optimism - so he was listed at what he is - 6' 7" and apparently his growth phase = done... and he did not really 'bulk up' ... not a surprise if you look at the evidence that he was actually 21 when he got to RU and was probably pretty close to full physical maturity.
He has potential to be a fine contributor - but - It would appear that a lot of the 'high hopes' and 'high expectations' may have been, in part, fueled by the vision of what he could potentially become - and the vision was a bit distorted by the expectation that he still had some more growth ahead of him.
Hope he can find his role & can simply be himself

This is just Deadspin taking another shot at drawing attention to itself (and I'm a regular reader, so I have no issue with them). They clearly spent a lot of time on their initial story, thought it was going to turn into something that would get them a lot of press from other sites, and when it didn't happen someone up the chain probably got scolded or was just embarrassed because they built it up as a major controversy. So the kid transfers and signs with a new school and they throw the bait out again, hoping people bite.

but then again the two people using that name in this thread are the same ones that wrote Jordan off and ridiculed his hiring of Shoes....who lived up to his reputation as a recruiting shark.
Sorry Ohio, my response was an attempt at levity. I think the "Sheridan" reference started with some poster misnaming Bishop Daniels as "Sheridan" and then some other posters made it into their "private" joke (including some who use it to take sarcastic shots at EJ and staff). Hopefully EJ and Staff's recent progress in recruiting may have softened some of the more jaded posters until next pre-season.

So does that mean Sheridan's actually 30 and fudged his birth year on Junior's advice.
Think Sheridan is Etou's stepbrother from a different family ( Kramer & Elaine )

Please. Let's see how these recruits pan out before anointing Shoe as King of All Recruiters. I'll give credit for him snagging these two but I believe it's his job to do this.

Give credit when credit is due and let those giving credit , enjoy giving it.
Don't think anyone thinks when it comes to recruiting : Shoes is " the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be".
So I'll just anoint Shoes as the Recruiter of the Day and know not every recruit becomes an All American , which means I'll just be happy
with how RU MBB recruiting looks now and when it comes time to play: hope Sanders looks like an All American PG and the rest of the roster looks the same.
Before the class of 2015 and the 2014 redshirts step on the court, I'll not claim they won't make RU fans proud .
I'll also feel those who played in the 2014-15 season will have improved their game for the 2015-16 season.
