I am all on-board with the improved football schedules at Rutgers. But slightly perplexed to see Delaware, coached by ex-Rutgers assistant Dave Brock, playing at North Carolina on September 26. Through the years, have always thought Delaware was a terrific potential OOC opponent for Rutgers. No cupcake and a "live" opponent that would put fans in the seats. I am assuming that Delaware took the game because North Carolina normally offers to play OOC football opponents in basketball, too.

Delaware is typically one of the better football schools in a solid FCS conference. There is really no benefit to scheduling good FCS teams. If you win, nobody cares, because an FBS team is supposed to beat an FCS team. However, if you loose - alla Appy St vs UM - you become the Big Fail talk of the season. I'd personally rather see us schedule a decent CUSA or AAC school OOC than any FCS.

You don't quite get the point of a bought game. Playing an FCS is a win and home game...period. You don't schedule a good team bc it's local and you might get a few thousand more fans. ZERO upside.

This is not the Delaware of the past. This is a Dave Brock-coached Delaware. There's no risk of Carolina losing to the Blue Hens.

Delaware was not been relevent in D1AA since firing KC Keeler a few years back. A new AD from BC pulled the string and also brought in Brock who coached for him at BC. Attendence is down and tix prices are up. Playing P5 teams is seen as generating interest & $. Last year they played Pitt and lost 61-0. Will be interesting to see if Blake Rankin gets the starting nod, but no way they beat UNC.
