Did we lose a coach again?

From Footballscoop
North Carolina: Adam Rittenberg tweets that UNC is expected to hire Rutgers corners coach Henry Backer to coach their defensive backs. Before joining Rutgers, Baker coached the corners at Delaware for six seasons.

Going to need a score card in order to name our coaching staff members in 2018 ...Busch, Baker , Burnham all leave from the D side... is this part of Ash’s plan in the grand scheme of things? Glad we have an experienced group back in our secondary after this fiasco.

Hopefully we can replace with a dynamic young guy who has ties from NJ and can recruit here.

.............need to hire replacements with good recruiting connections........

A source familiar with Baker's decision attributed the move partly to financial reasons -- the Paterson native was the lowest-paid Rutgers assistant on staff last fall at $175,000.

Guessing he'll at least double his salary at UNC. Can't fault him.
Cleat deal with addidis?

He was our cornerbacks coach, right? And we had a DB’s coach as well, right? So this guy was lowest paid on staff, working under smith coach, and is making a vertical move to coach ALL DB’s at UNCHEAT, right?

kinda makes sense, to me, that he’ll be making more, no??

It isn't money folks.

What is it, 5 assistants we've lost this season?

(1.) Jerry Kill - retired - medical
(2) Shane Burnham - departs B1G to make lateral move to AAC UCF
(3.) Jafar Williams - takes the running backs @l Maryland
(4.) Bill Busch - moves to LSU
(5.) Henry Baker - goes to UNC

#1 was not money - but clearly it was health
#2 was said to be sort of by mutual agreement or preference
#3, 4 & 5 were impacted by money - #4 HUGELY impacted

now since Ash just got a fresh 're-start' on his five year contract - he can take this opportunity to refine / adjust / upgrade (to the extent that his budget will permit) - and try to focus on smooth progressively improving operation for the next 5 years.

4 and 5 - you don't say "no" to LSU EVEN IF even-$$$$....UNC job is a vertical move (corners to ALL DB's) with, obviously, a pay raise due to responsibility increase.

Why can't he keep them?
Flood damage.
You have to ask that question when there's a three page thread bitching about spending an extra $20 a game on parking?
And don't forget Flood. . . .everything is still his fault. Remember, the place still reeks because of him. Can't get the stink out. . .

Hobbs extended Ash. Hope he did something or does something soon for the the assistant coach hiring pool.

Other coaches also got raises that took the total paid to assistants to $7.06 million.

Ryan Day, head coach Urban Meyer's offensive coordinator/QB coach, got a raise to $1 million, up from $400,000 last season.
  • Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson signed a one-year deal for $800,000, up from $650,000 last season.
  • Defensive assistant Alex Grinch, who joined the Buckeyes from Washington State in January, got a two-year deal at $800,000 a year.
  • Defensive line coach Larry Johnson got a two-year deal at $750,000 a year, up from $575,225.
  • Running backs coach Tony Alford got a two-year deal at $525,000 a year, up from $450,000.
  • Offensive line coach Greg Studrawa has a one-year deal for $500,000, up from $410,000.
  • Linebackers coach Bill Davis signed a one-year deal for $500,000 the same he made last season.
  • Wide receivers coach Zach Smith got a one-year deal for $340,000, up from $300,000.
  • Cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson got a two-year deal at $345,000 a year. He was hired on Tuesday.

If you don't think it's about money, then please come up with a cogent argument rather than this.
Ive already said its about the money. But you can't put this on the fans. Most of us pay a fortune for tickets, parking and donations. Don't you think this is the schools responsibility. Rutgers has been going on the cheap for all sports since 1869! Maybe if the school and the State of NJ would have taken pride in athletics from the start Rutgers would have had better success which leads to more alumns who care.

Can you tell me how many assistants from Indiana, Michigan State, Penn State, etc left after the season ?
Yeah, sure.
Penn State lost the key cog in their wheel in OC Moorhead. Their DC left last year. Josh Gattis (WR) left this year.
"Josh Gattis was a big part of the team's success. All signs point to that he’s a great recruiter and an equally good developer of players once they get on campus. His wide receivers had performed at an increasingly high level over the past couple of seasons and were a big part of the Nittany Lions’ offensive success."

Did you see the coach we just hired? We poached him from Indiana, and he is recognized as a solid recruiter.

What goes around comes around.
Do they have a bunch of board (bored?) eey-ores screaming the sky is falling? Doubtful.

How is Al Golden's career going?

You're all wrong!!! He is going to get an advanced degree without going into a classroom. Has to think about the future outside of football.

People used to jump all over Schiano about the assistant turnover under him. They attributed it to him being hard to work for. Yet assistants were constantly moving throughout college football. But people love to bitch.

Baker is the lowest paid assistant on staff and his direct boss (Busch) leaves for another job. Baker obviously wanted Busch’s job and didn’t get it. Sure, you can say it’s about money — because it always is — but I’d say this is as much about not getting the DB job as it is salary.

Unbelievable.
Sounds like Coaches have issues working for Ash.
Can’t wait to see how the Pollyannas spin this one.
