Especially if:

- ND beats Stanford tomorrow
- ND is left out of the College Playoffs
- With Conference Championships a huge criteria?

Thoughts?

Want if Big12 gets shut out again. Do they addd teams simply to get a championship game?

I think Iowa win guarantees a Big Ten team in the playoff since Iowa is better than ND since Iowa is undefeated in regular season 12-0. I think they can possible only get in if Oklahoma loses.

Why would nd join a conference ? I believe they are the only team in American sports that plays all of their games on national television .

There not in a conference because they have their very own television contract that they share with exactly, no one. Join a conference and they split it 12 ways...never going to happen as long as NBC is willing to pay it.

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Iowa get bumped for ND. It's a better show with them in it.

Has the NCAA officially ruled on the ACC / B12 petition to deregulate the conference championship games? If not and the NCAA accepts the proposal, Notre Dame might have the opportunity to play in the ACC Championship game which would give them the possibility of greater access without joining a conference.

It is very, very hard to get into the college playoff without a conference playoff. ND and Big12 are perfect examples.

ND will join a conference when hell freezes over. Not splitting their sweet sweet NBC $$$!

They don't need to join a conference. And they aren't going to share their TV money. There's no way any conference would accept that. And they shouldn't.

The committee will not leave a 13-0 Iowa out of the playoffs. The interesting question would be 12-1 Michigan State or 11-1 Oklahoma vs Notre Dame, but ND beat up Texas who beat up Oklahoma. That is a hard one to explain away.

I think ND gets in if they beat Stanford unless Clemson loses to UNC. I can see Oklahoma losing tomorrow.

Not IMO.....THE Irish are now like the Scots-Irish cowboys and hillbillies calling themselves.... Americans outside small Boston type pockets and shrinking...i would know...60M plus style assimilation ...give me Iowa..they'll lose to Stanford anyways..

Huh? I take it you mean that Clemson losing would hurt ND schedule strength, but who would take Clemson's spot in the playoffs if not ND?

Who cares what ND does? Just let me know when they are losing to Monmouth or something similar. $$$$

ND was hurt by Navy losing- was their best win. Big 12 champ played a more difficult schedule than ND, so I think ACC- Clemson, Big 10 winner= Michigan State lost on a bad call, Oklahoma, and Bama. will be the Final 4.

Norte Dame's AD has said in the past they would only join a conference if they could not play for the National Championship as an independent.

If they are left out for a one loss Oklahoma and/or Michigan State it will send a harsh message to ND that they must go undefeated to play for the national championship. No school signs up for that. If it happens once it will not prompt them to jump. But, if it ever happened more than once than ND would join a conference

Let's see, which is really more important to the Domers? Truck full of money or occasional chances at being the NC?
This program has fans who have never seen the campus. That will never end.

And this might be what drives it. The talking heads believe the committee looks unfavorably on teams without a conference affiliation and conferences without a championship game. Right now, this appears to be true. But like others, I just can't see The Frenchies comprimising on the TV money. Should be interesting to see how they negotiate this.

College football will adjust the playoff to accommodate Notre Dame before Notre Dame joins a conference outright. And you can take THAT to the bank lol.

The model of ND and the B12 can work to their advantage.

While this year Oklahoma plays Oklahoma St in a virtual championship game and Notre Dame plays a tough Stanford team there is no guarantee each will be in a tough game on the final week of the season.

For the B10 you have Iowa in the championship game that will play Ohio St or Mich St. You have a top 10 matchup to qualify for a final 4 spot. Iowa did not play Mich St or Ohio St this year.

For the SEC you have a likely matchup of 1 loss teams (Florida vs Bama). Florida and Bama didn't play this year.

For the ACC Clemson will play a 1 loss UNC team. If ND was allowed into this game it may mean UNC gets replaced by ND. Clemson didn't play UNC this year.

For the P12 you have a 2 loss Stanford team vs a 3 loss USC or UCLA team. Stanford beat both this year.

The only way ND joins a conference is if the committee comes out and says you have to win a conference in order to make the final 4.
