Can't wait to see what happens if he does.

If you were him what would you do?

Biggest knock on this guy seems to be that he lacks mastery of the system, but doesn't get a fair shake as far as snaps are concerned in practice. How is he supposed to develop?

Btw, the master of the system spiked the ball on 4th down and has made his fair share of questionable decisions. Let's not forget the starter was also suspended to start the season.

Something is wrong here, and its not like laviano is graduating this year.

Kudos to him for having a great attitude during this whole thing.

No. Why would he?
Same class as Laviano, Russo in the pipeline.

Not getting snaps, so hard to get better when seemingly his only downside is knowledge of the system.

You would think at least midway through 3rd quarter of OSU rettig should have gotten a try.

Seems pretty obvious the answer is yes.

If I were him, and thought that I had potential to at least get looked at for the NFL, then YES I would transfer to a top-level FCS program who has a QB on the way out and their next "guy" either coming in or coming off his R-Frosh season.

I'm sure things will get interesting on this one.

If the team continues to lose games and he is only brought in the 4th Qtr when the game is already a blowout ( mop up duty) he should transfer. If he is not given a fair opportunity ; and he really believes that he can lead the RU Offense better than Chris L. ; he should look elsewhere to play.

Nice OP. YOU THINK?
Whats the problem? We can bury a kid on the depth chart and not talk about it? See OSU and their controversy before you get your panties in a bunch over ours which is much less crucial since we do not have national title implications here. We should change qbs every other week here if thats what it take to figure out the starter.

it's not going to happen. He's not going to transfer another time and sit out another year (I doubt he transfers down to 1aa either). It takes time to learn an offense and all it's protections and nuances. He has a good shot to be starting next year. The only thing Laviano has on him is the knowing the playbook better and his comfort with running the huddle.

I do think we should give rettig a couple of series every game so he gets experience. I would do the same for every backup QB in our program from now on.

This isn't PeeWee Soccer. You don't get to play because you're on the team, you earn it.

You bring up the spike yet fail to mention he went toe to toe with possibly the #1 pick in the next draft, Connor Cook, for the other 59.5 minutes. Remind me who was under center when RU came back against Indiana and help me out, who led the team down the field for the game winning FG? All in 6 career starts.

It's so funny when someone picks out 1 or 2 plays to make their point, ignoring the larger body of work if it doesn't fit their agenda.

Was it you who said in another thread that Laviano doesn't want to be out there?

You're right, something is wrong here but it's got nothing to do with Laviano.

3-4....3-4.....lets say that again 3-4

Don't ignore those stats please.

Why do you "doubt" he would transfer down? QB's do it all the time.

@AreYouNUTS He likes it at RU and has a real shot to start next year once he has learned the playbook and protections better and learned to manage the huddle better. According to people in the know, those were the only reasons he wasn't starting over Laviano this season.

he must be really bad at managing the huddle, CL doesn't do that well.

Ooh, can I play?

2047

511.8

Total and average yards RU has given up in those 4 losses.

The problems are on the other side of the ball. Unless Laviano is missing tackles or Rettig is a combination of Rivas, Butkus and Mean Joe, trying to blame the QB for RU's struggles is nothing more than typical fan backup QB love.

This season's fate was sealed after the problems in April and exasperated with the injuries to Hamilton and Turay. Not saying Wharton, Austin, Hester, and Adams won't be really good cause you can see flashes already, but they were thrown to the wolves this year.

Jeezy this crap that he doesn't know the play book is a bunch of crap!

Let's see.. It is his redshirt soph year... Meaning he has 2 to play 2 after this season. If he has to sit a year he has 1 year left. FCS maybe? As a god QB with NFL measurbles the league will find him anywhere he goes... If deserving. I hope he gets a real shot here the rest of the season... Make leaving difficult. If I was him I might see if an IVY were interested.

yes blame a defense when the offense goes 3 and out on almost every series it touched the ball.

Did you see how many times he glanced at his wrist play card pre-snap after breaking the huddle or how long he was in the huddle (it was like 25 seconds and he kept pulling the players back into the huddle as well) vs OSU? Please re-watch his series and get back to me. He's definitely the better passer but right now he's not the better QB. I used to be the biggest Rettig fan as many can attest, but unless he gets those other things fixed he is a liability unless we are down big (in which case it doesn't matter since we have nothing to lose). It's like playing a great RB that runs great but can't pass block.

i still think Rettig should get at least 2 series every game to gain experience in the huddle in game condtions. Flood is a complete dumb ****ing moron for not doing this or allowing this.

please stop with this crap. Had he played and practiced as the #1 he wouldn't have these problems by now. Thats the whole reason everyone who see's his potential is pissed... Say he wins the job next year, do you think he won't have growing pains???? Take the lumps now, this team aint going anywhere!

Unless you are at practice everyday (or alot), how do you know he doesn't get a fair shake?

Lol.. This notion that is being put forward by several numb-nuts on this board that Rettig is not being given a fair shot is ridiculous. No one on this board has any clue if he is being given a fair shot. As mentioned above... unless someone has been there to see what has happened through the hundreds of hours of practice, you have no clue how anything is being handled in the competition any absolutely no basis whether or not he is being given a fair shot. His body language and attitude on the sideline certainly doesn't suggest a kid who is being wronged.

I agree. That's why I was pissed that Rettig was benched for Laviano after the Norfolk St game. But right now after 6 games, Laviano looks better in the huddle and in the pocket. Rettig should still see a couple of series this game but Flood is a complete dumb**** and is coaching for his job this season so will go with the less risky option unfortunately and not plan for the future.

First Downs....

Rutgers 155 or 22.1 per game

Opponents 150
whats your point here? Take away the first game of the season and run those stats again.

Look at this first half after our first drive - Missed FG
4 plays - punt
3 play- punt
6 plays- punt
3 plays - punt
4 plays- punt

21-0 - I'd say the D actually did a valiant job considering the opponent, not talented or deep enough to hold them in the second half.

3 plays- punt
1 play - INT
8 - punt
3- punt
10- TD

and never because the clock is down to 1 and we're lost and confused?

That's on the staff, not QB. Watch the OSU game and tell me how many times OSU runs the clock down to 5 seconds or less. I'm betting it's around 75%. The idea is to wait till the D has no time to change their set or coverage.
