Does a regular season men's soccer title count as a conference title?

If so, we are playing for our first conference championship tomorrow! Go Men's soccer!
Yes. I actually give it more weight than a tournament title.

Just to fill in the details

The standings are
OSU - 13
RU - 12
NW - 12
Michigan 11

No one below that can win

OSU plays Michigan
NW plays last place Wisconsin
RU plays MD

I THINK the tiebreaker is head to head - RU has wins over all three teams.

So RU can win the title outright with a win in a loss or tie by both NW and OSU. A win and loss or tie by OSU and a win by NW gets us co-champs - plus I think the #1 seed.

We could also claim a share of the title (and a #1 seed) with a tie and an OSU loss and a NW tie or loss.

So basically - if we win, I think we are the #1 seed unless OSU also wins.

If we tie and Michigan beats OSU and NW does not win, then Michigan wins the conference because they would jump to 14 points. We need to win or we can't be regular season champions. That last-second loss to Wisconsin really hurts here. If that was a tie, then the conference title would be ours with a win or a tie if Ohio State does not win.

So - let's go out there and win and root for the Wolverines!

Sure it does and I agree with derleider that it's slightly better. It's a full season body of work in the conference as opposed to possibly just one magical run where you got hot. I'd take either a regular season title or a conference tourney championship but why not be greedy and shoot for both, lol.

Good catch.

RU Athletics overall is improving despite the state of the football program. Yet people here keep insisting Julie is a bad AD.

Good luck to both the men's and woman's Soccer programs. What an awesome season for them. Look forward to all the other programs continuing to grow and show promise !![thumb2]

The fact that RU defeated all three of the other teams with a shot at the title shows the irony of this season. RU's losses came to the bottom teams in the standings and they came prior to the most of the wins. I'll bet the guys would love to have those games back at this point and re-play them at the level at which the team is now playing.

Yup. I can't figure this one out either. There has been clear improvement in many facets of our athletics department. Not so much in football. If you're going to blame her for football, at least give her credit for m/w soccer, wrestling, softball, baseball, etc.

The women's situation is even more regretful. They only had 1 bad week the entire season where they lost 2 conf games in that week which resulted them not even finishing in the top 3 in the conference. Man that is brutal to consider you nearly have to be perfect to win the conference in just about any sport. I think the mens soccer team gets a break because there are far fewer teams in the conf

This team appears to be on a real roll right now and that could bode well for the rest of the way. Awesome work by both the mens and womens teams.

They're the same ones who have hated her from Day 1 for the most part (with a few exceptions).

Actually, the women did finish 3rd in the conference in the regular season, and with just one more win instead of a 2nd tie, we would've finished in a three way tie for first. I don't know how the conference would've broken that tie, as we beat PSU and PSU beat Wisconsin, but we did not play Wisconsin. There were three outclassed women's teams this season (Iowa, Indiana, and Maryland) that are a combined 2-25-6 in conference play.

The men's side has one team behind the rest, and of course it's the Wisconsin team that nipped us just seconds before the horn sounded at the end of double OT. One win separates first place and fifth place. Only three teams have strong overall records: RU (11-4-1),OSU (10-5-2), and Indiana (10-4-2 but only 3-3-1 in conference).

Was just looking at the playoff schedule and none of the games are on TV. All on BTN2GO. Why? Why is the conference TV channel not showing one of there sports playoffs?

Does the conference differentiate between a regular season winner and the playoff winners? Is one the "real" champion?

Found this in the B1G soccer record book, but still not 100% sure. They are both recognized in some way in their records.

Beginning in 2009, the regular season winner is declared Big Ten Champion. "Big Ten Championship" renamed to "Big Ten Tournament" and used to determine NCAA automatic qualifier.

Some will be on TV. I don't think they know which ones will air.
