Eddie is the right coach, unfortunately he has the same problem as so many past coaches...nothing to sell recruits. Give him something to work with and I think he can win.

I am still under the wait and see with EJ. I hate that people want to run him out of town on this board but quite frankly he needs to show me what he can do with a team that wasn't broken like this one.

I'm not happy with the results from Eddie's first two seasons. But I am not ready to pass judgment on whether he is the right or wrong coach.

His first season came on the heals of Rice being fired and half the team leaving. He was hired in late April, and really needed to focus on being able to field a team, let alone trying to get the right pieces in place.

His second season was essentially his first season, where he basically faced the struggles of a new coach coming into a situation where he had a low-talent team missing key parts. Despite the win vs Wisconsin, the results were horrible, with the team struggling to put together 40 consecutive minutes of effective basketball. But I do have to give Jordan credit for keeping the team from giving up toward the end of the season in the face of a long losing streak. Even at the end, they played as hard (even if playing poorly) as they did earlier in the season.

Right now, I am just looking for improvement in play for next year. But there aren't any realistic performance goals that could be met for next year to convince me that Jordan is the right coach. But regression (especially in the form of effort) could convince me that he is the wrong coach.

Ruman..so naive. To you and others...

Would you go to a school to study computer science that although had great teachers, but very little in terms of state of the art of computers technology, classrooms/labs, and antiquated facilities?

Would you go to school for Biology with a great faculty, but very little in terms of supplies and research facilities?

Would you go to a music school with an excellent percussion teacher, but very little in terms of the totality of percussion instruments to play, practice rooms, ensemble experience? (My field, by the way)

I could go on, but you understand the point.

MANY players see EVEN MID MAJOR programs with outstanding facilities, and a good coach, and the ability to play, and thats were they go.

If you don't think we have a good coach, then IMHO, you don't know basketball. He is a good coach, with excellent moral ground and leadership, an alum that is respected in the basketball world.

Build it, they will come..JUST LIKE FOOTBALL!!!!

Show SOME commitment, and give kids a REASON to come here!

I don't know if he's the right coach

And I don't if he's the wrong coach either.

simply not enough information.

I know I would like to find out though.

Watching these games......

The defensive intensity is at a whole different level than what we see. That is fixable with a coaching staff. Offense, different story.

I was struck by something Utah's head coach said after their first round win. He gave all the credit to his young assistants, who designed a great X's and O's game plan. He said they were all destined to be great head coaches. That got me thinking -- Who on Eddie's staff is great witht the X's and O's? Rice used to give David Cox credit for great game plans. Based on their backgrounds, I'm not sure there's anyone on the current staff that's wowing anyone with their X's and O's; nor is their an extraordinary recruiter. That is a problem, irrespective of whether Eddie can coach.

He's got 2 more years to prove that he can coach college kids. Not win a national championship. Not get to the tournament. Not get to .500 in the B1G. Just show that he can coach college kids. April 2017 -- 3 year extension or a negotiated buyout and thanks for the memories.

A head coaches win/loss record ultimately tells the story. Why Rutgers can't recruit top players is a ongoing saga stretching previous head coaches and continues with Jordan.Talent matters and Rutgers has MAAC level which can't even beat St.Francis and St.Peters.

Bac i dont mind koren or macon but the rest just take up a seat. Still undecided on ej. We had very little depth but i wasnt happy with the amt of blowouts this year. Hes got two more years to get results. Watch g town last night? Absolotely no bench and it killed them. We need close to .500 to sell recruits. Until then we will struggle to get the players we need at this level. Still have hope for ej

You are probably right that he will get 2 more but we will have a pretty good idea at the end of next season whether he can or can't. Based on the body of work thus far he cannot.

For this time at Rutgers he's not the right coach IMO. RU had tremendous issues; You need a coach has a strategy to overcome them. An NBA lifer with no connections does not fit that mold.

Suppose two years is right, but if there is no improvement in 2016, 2017 will be a wasted year. You may know in 12 months. Doesn't mean we will make a move

Ruman -- unless someone steps up with a mill plus, Jordan gets a fourth year regardless of how next year goes. Who signs in November will be much more telling and important than the 15-16 record.

You know my mantra is

I remain of the opinion that next hear is year one but we need to see progress evidence of this next year

There were things Eddie did in the last two years that if they weren't off the backdrop off the mike rice era that they would warrant a lot of Wtfs

Need to see evidence that this is behind us in 15-16

Mississippi State fired Rick Ray after three seasons. He was 37-60.

Here's what Jeff Goodman said on Twitter:

"I like Mississippi State AD Scott Striklin, but it's a complete joke that he has fired Rick Ray after just three years."

"Rick Ray was brought on to clean up a program - and he has done that. Scott Stricklin should have given him one more year."

"Ricky Ray didn't inherit much - and also had tons of injuries first couple years."

Ray won five conference games last year.

Not a school with RU's financial issues and they see Ole Miss getting better .

Miss St has upgraded facilities all over the place and they just didn't think the guy could get it done so they'll write a 2 million dollar check.

RU isn't in a position to do that plus pay a guy 2 million a year .

Look for them to take a run at Steve Prohm from Murray , Mike White from La Tech along with Davis from Middle Tenn a really excellent coach.

Prohm turned them down three years ago and White already turned down Tennessee (a better job than Miss. St, imo).

But let's see what they can do.

Georgia Tech and Seton Hall are doing the opposite of Mississippi State because as you said it's a money issue.

Schiano was able to significantly upgrade RUs recruiting before they upgraded the Hale Center.

How can you have defensive intensity when you need to play your starters the whole game? Look at Kentuckys depth and you can understand why they are able to play with defensive intensity, they come at you in waves.

Our assistant coaches are a negative not a positive for a rebuilding job like this
I am glad you brought this up because I think this is a problem we can't escape and people need to know this. Even if we somehow land some hotshot coach from the lower ranks we will certainly not pay any money to get really good assistants. We will end up with the same caliber coaches we have now.

this is true...most of the successful schools have a great assistant with connections that reels them in. Unless you have a huge big name or a guy whose name is familiar in recruiting circles...such as a Hurley, most programs have well respected and connected staff. RU does not have that. We have a guy Vetrone who might have been hot two decades ago, Macon somehow is here despite being an assistant with Rice..how is that possible, and then O Koren who is basically a black hole when it comes to recruiting. Its not a staff built to succeed here...perhaps if this staff was hired right after Waters when program perception was not so bad but not for what we need here long term

Re: Not so sure

Everyone is rooting for Eddie but so far there is nothing to show. Can we really just sit back until B1G money arrives? That would be 2-3 more years of doing nothing but fielding a team. As so many have posted, we would be bottom feeders in most mid-major leagues.

Didn't Chaney have awful facilities at Temple--in fact, his team had to practice at 6 AM. Yet he was able to field a lot of teams that made it to the NCAA's. His guys played hard, played smart, and were better than the sum of their parts.
TL

that was before the arms race, but Chaney would have a chance now!

Guys like Chaney and Waters (and Jordan) can really sell themselves to parents. Other schools have fancy facilities where they can play ping pong, pool, video games, and hang out in the hot tub. We pride ourselves on turning your high schooler to a man who is ready for the real world. I will provide discipline and you have my word I won't do you and your son wrong.

based on what is he "the right coach"?

IMHO there are 3 areas a coach can impact a program in.

1) Recruiting. Obvious.
2) Player development. Even if you don't get the stud recruits, if your players keep getting better every year you can make up for it by them constantly improving their games.
3) Xs and Os. Does your offense generate lots of easy looks for your team? Can you design defenses that keep the opponents from lighting you up?

What's Jordan's calling card? Is he a lights out recruiter? Is he just making players better? Is he a chalk board wizard? IMHO you need at least 2/3 to be good at a high level.

No coach can do much with DII and DIII talent, which is what RU has. Facilities need upgrading....bigtime.

No more mike rice players on tream except Lewis. If the team lacks talent ask the current coaches. It's there guys.

McGonigle Hall was pretty awful, but like Green Rice said it was before the arms race and before practice facilities. But they built the Liacoras Center right on Broad Street after YEARS of haggling about minority set-asides and jobs for North Philly residents. It was a hot button political issue for a long time. But it got done, and it transformed the campus.

And the practices were at 5 am. Parents of talented but troubled youth stood in line to offer their sons to Chaney. Chaney was a playground legend but played at Bethune Cookman because segregation was still in effect at Southern schools. (He was born in Jacksonville.)

If we have ten wins or less next season, Eddie has to call it quits. It's not fair to the people who actually pay to see these games, including myself.

Talk about guys with an agenda.

One clown bumps and another clown says that Jordan should resign or is close to it after 2 years !!!

Stupid silly people

If the agenda is wanting a team that wins more than 10 games a season, then I have an agenda.
