EMU Loss Debate- Would the Wall Street Letter Have Changed the Outcome of the Game?

Need more Florida players

Need to show it this Saturday and compete...

EMU still kills me..imagine how 4-3 would feel right now dammit.

Kills me too. EMU has lost 5 straight games since beating us.
Worse loss in the last 10 years.Might cost us a Bowl Game.

Look at it this way--we wore them out, and the loss inspired RU to greater heights.
Still sucks.

Or rather they felt over confident after beating RU and just getting beat by everyone in every game since.
It’s a shame one player who didn’t play would have won the Game for RU. Huge Coaching blunder. Hopefully a lesson learned.

EMU and Nebraska should have both been wins.

I get a kick out of people saying that Nebraska "should" have been a win. No, it SHOULDN'T have, however, it COULD have, sure, but they're still more talented, and much deeper, and they simply wore us down. Look at the last 7 drives of the game; IIRC it was Nebraska TD, Nebraska FG (2), RU Punt(2), RU Int(2).

...when you don't have enough dogs to stay in the race, in a tight game on the road, you tend to lose. We simply DO NOT have the "dogs," especially on the LOS, to stay in a game as such against a team that is much, much deeper on the lines.

One more:

This guy is a 3-star DE from Florida, with offers from NC State, Maryland, Iowa State, and 26 others, but somehow there are STILL complaints in this thread despite us being IN HIS TOP TWO right now?? Com'on guys lol!

Sorry but in the game of recruiting, there are no points for 2nd place.

This might not even be top 5 worst losses in last 10 years.

Really ?
Care to name the others ?

The Buff/Nova fiasco and the NH losses were more than 10 years ago.
Kent St. was a good team....Ranked and won 11 games that 2012 season.
Eastern Michigan stinks this year and wont even make a Bowl Game this year.

You are wrong my friend.

So I assume this is from the Todderick article, where recruits give the most obvious answers in the world.

Let's just hope Ash can close on these guys.

For me, when you talk about worst losses, you need to put them in context. We are a not so great team in year two of a rebuild. Many on this board said we would be lucky to win 2 games and then wnat to act shocked when we lose? that being said, off the top of my head:
2009 getting our doors blown off by Cinci in the grand opening of our stadium. Yes, Cinci was nasty that year but game was over in the 1st quarter.
2009 again. Losing to a 1-6 in conference Cuse team by 3 scores to keep us from winning 10 games.
2010 losing to Tulane in year 10 of Schiano's tenure. He gets a pass for most of the year because of EL but let's be honest. Even without that horrible day that season ends the same way. We were in a death struggle with Army pre injury.
2011: with RU's biggest bowl ever on the line we get blown out by a bad UCONN team.

I'm thinking that the "we will be lucky to win 2 games" group is different then the group that is ticked off about losing to EMU.

I thought 5 wins was very possible, and thus the EMU loss is a stinger. But hey 5 wins is still very possible.

Look at it this way--perhaps the EMU loss and tOSU beatdown were part of the unfortunate growth pattern that any losing program needs to emerge from. Developing a winning program is not some neat upward sloped path--there will be ups and downs and successful programs learn from the disappointing losses.

In fairness and "in context" Cincy was 12-1 that year. Not an awful loss at all. Loss to Tulane after injury to Eric Legrand must also be taken "in context". Cuse lose was legitimately bad. EMU is right up there and is indeed one of the worst losses in the last ten years.

Agreed. I picked 5 wins in the polls thinking emu would be a win. But I also thought our offense would be serviceable. This is a 4-5 win team. With the emu loss, most likely 4.

The UConn loss he referenced was one of the worst.

Eastern Michigan isn't that bad of a team. They have been in every game this year. The loss was certainly an upset but it wasn't some kind of crazy, 30 point underdog winning.

If EMU "could" easily have been a win, Purdue could just as easily have been a loss.

I know it's changing vk's verbatim point, but when coupled with our wins, this loss's effect will probably be negligible.

It was a crappy loss no doubt, but IMO and pulling back to the topic, any losses/wins against P5 teams probably have much more effect on recruits (pos or neg).

Hopefully the recruits are not watching the offensive side of the ball which has been ugly.

I have to agree with this list over EMU especially the UCONN loss. We have recovered from the EMU loss in terms of reputation and where we stand with recruits and perception.

Add Pitt in 2012.

I said Cinci was good but we were a 9 win team and the game was over before the first quarter. They beat us worse than OSU did this year. Tulane was weeks before Eric go hurt so there is no context.

I left Pitt of because they were like a 8 win team. It was a loss that stung but not one people couldn't have predicted.

Can you guys take this discussion to this thread, which I created for the express purpose of debating the EMU loss:

https://rutgers.forums.rivals.com/threads/official-ghost-of-eastern-michigan-thread-seance.132301/

Talk about taking a happy thread and turning it into a crying game.
