Etou

he's having a decent year (11pts and 6 reb per game) but Tulsa sucks. They've got some really bad losses this year, so not exactly sure how much he'd be helping us right now

Etou was the game MVP. 23 pts, 13 rebs, 9-of-11 from the line. Tulsa (8-7) beat Memphis (12-5), 81-71.
No doubt he would be the starting 3 for us this year -- 50% shooter, 40% 3pt, 74%FT and over 6 rpg and 11 ppg in 27 mpg coming into tonight.

in a word...STUD. A missing piece we don't have and sure could have used. Funny how "motivated" he plays this year.

[QUOTE="PiscatawayMike,

I remember him getting pulled for not getting back on defense because he was moping after he made a bad offensive play -- he seems to have grown up a bit.

Saw him play a couple weeks ago. When I turned it on he was not on the court. The announcers were saying he was playing well. He came into the game, threw up 2 bricks and got a shot blocked.

The endless fascination with JE continues. Never in the course of human conquest has a player received so much interest for doing so little. Glad to hear he is doing well elsewhere, though.

He did play 37 minutes in the win against Wisconsin. I don't remembered who guarded Dekker, but I am sure it was him.

He was an interesting player, not a classic 3 but a 3 with some pretty good 4 moves. I liked him a freshman, thought he had tremendous potential. The numbers don't tell the story but it seemed like he regressed in some ways his sophomore year. Shame he didn't stay here.

He would have been the closest thing we would have had to a "3". His skills were there but his head didn't often seem to be. I'm not sure if that was a deficiency of his, our coach, the system, or a combination. I would have liked to have seen if he would have been different under Pikiell but it's 'water under the bridge" now.

Kadeem Jack guarded Dekker. As to Etou he was a very good rebounder but he fell in love with the jumper. He would get very good put backs but he never drove the ball to the basket. He was not a good dribbler and he pouted way too much. I wish him luck but he didn't seem like he put the team first. I want kids that want to be at RU. It just seemed like he was upset that too many plays went through Kadeem. That is just my observation from seeing the games.

he would be starting and is a much needed player. Jordan losing him was a big loss because that was his initial splash recruit and just continued to exodus of solid players leaving the program which further pushed any timetable of success for Jordan further into the future

Let......it......go

What's next, what is Danthay and Todd up to?
Shack, it's not really about letting it go. It's simply about seeing what a former RU player is doing. I always keep an eye on what former players of my favorite teams are doing on their current teams. I think most fans do.

Art, your comments hit the nail on the head. Completely agree.

Another example of a Top 150 kid who struggled a bit as an underclassmen and appears to be playing well as an upperclassmen.

Hopefully Coach P keeps most of the kids he recruits On the Banks so they both get their start AND graduate from RU.

Viewing frosh and sophs as "finished products" is one of the more wrong assessments regularly made on this board.

agree... would have been interesting to see what this current coach would have been able to do with him in his Senior year. The point is he clearly has shown significant value elsewhere and wasn't a total bust and seems to be playing a different game. He's not here so it is what it is...

Your comments are about a player that had flaws to his game which can be said for just about every Rutgers player in the last decade if not longer.Putting the team first sounds good but star players have big egos and they want to win and the fame that goes with success.Etou wasn't a star player but at least showed some potential as a front court scorer which has been lacking at Rutgers. The bottom line is that Rutgers needs more talented players at every position and they will come with different personalities.i understand that because my primary concern is winning.

Some guy with Fla in their handle i believe
While I wish him well at Tulsa
Sometimes I think our fans have long term memory loss

as talented as he COULD be he did very little for us his last year at RU....completey disappeared some games

If you recall he was very sullen & wasnt happy at all
& some said it even affected KJack & Mack
he was benched for said "attitude"

"The departure is not unexpected. Etou’s run at Rutgers was troubled from the start. He was suspended by the NCAA for six games at the beginning of his freshman season for what the school announced as receiving “impermissible benefits” prior to enrollment. Then this January, coach Eddie Jordan very publicly benched Etou for one game for what the head coach described as attitudinal lapses"

He's gone and that's that. He probably would have stayed with Pikiell here but that's history. I actually liked him as a player but we should be able to bring in guys who are better than him.

Kid wasn't good here but had talent. With the right coach, like Pike, that potential likely would have been realized.

I don't blame any kids transferring under the last coach. That was a train wreck all the way around.

He should have been used to Eddie Jordan'scoaching. Jordan was Etou's DC Assault AAU Coach.

Which had everything to do with him coming to Rutgers IIRC that recruitment accurately.

Let's hope we are not repeating this after 3 years.
