Rutgers football went to a bowl game after the 2021 season but can the Scarlet Knights get back? Here’s a preview and predictions for the 2022 season.

There’s a reason that people wanted Greg Schiano as Rutgers football head coach so badly and the results over the past two years are a good example of why.

Yes, the Scarlet Knights have won only eight games, but remember, the 2020 season was shortened due to COVID-19 and in the previous four seasons combined, Rutgers football won a total of nine games.

Schiano has always done a great job of recruiting the state of New Jersey and the Scarlet Knights have used the transfer portal to their advantage too.

Believe it or not, the Scarlet Knights even landed a borderline top-100 QB in Gavin Wimsatt, who was supposed to be part of the 2022 class but enrolled early last season.

The 5-8 record and lopsided bowl loss to Wake Forest was another step in the right direction and with Noah Vedral back at quarterback, the Scarlet Knights should be competitive again.

The defense will need to be much better and the running game will have to find a new lead runner after the departure of Isaih Pacheco.

Winning six games won’t be easy. Not in the Big Ten East and not with a schedule that’s pretty challenging. But Schiano knows how to win with Rutgers football and we’ll see if, in year three, he can navigate the Scarlet Knights to their first winning season since 2014.

The 2021 season was already the best since 2014 and with another year of building, developing, and recruiting, Rutgers football is on the rise. Here’s our look at the 2022 season with a preview of the offense, defense, and schedule (with predictions).

Reactions: Knight Shift
The RBs are a lot deeper than he thinks. And a little blurb about the new faces on the OL would have been appropriate. But Week 8 in Minnesota is going to be cold? For Rutgers? Hey, this isn't USF he's talking about.
Agreed, its not like we are going there in February to play.

Agree. OL should have been the focus of the offense section especially with all the portal transfers we brought in and the recruiting class.

Not impressed with the article. As mentioned above, they really needed to dive into the improvements on the OL. Plus Toure's injury, as also mentioned above. And they give short shrift to our transfers to bolster certain areas and to special teams, particularly Korsak.

BC game will tell us a lot. If that ends up a W.. and we have some luck health/depth-wise.. could be a nice surprise season.
