Ohio State ran a perfect play with 1.7 left inbounding to a wide open man under the basket to win the game at Nebraska 67-66. Buckeyes now 2-4 in league had to rally from 12 down

Indiana meanwhile had a 14 point lead with under 10 minutes left and as many with 8 with about a minute and melted down allowing PSU to tie the game with 4.7 seconds but Blackmon hit a 3 for Indiana as time expired as the Hoosiers escaped 78-75

RU is not even close to the level that we are seeing everyone else play in league. Nebraska is coming in and unless they have a wretched shooting night and play their D game while RU plays their A game, this game is a loss.

Ouch! The truth hurts.

I get this is a Rutgers board but you could have just left it on topic to the title ;)

Great games tonight both underdogs covered. These two games figured to be close and delivered.

I love that BAC is always positive. Iowa game we should have won.

I think losing a game like Nebraska loss hurts a young team and I wouldn't be surprised if RU gets a D game from the Huskers.

This IMO is the most winnable game thus far

Stay between your man and the basket. How many times have these kids heard that. In fairness, it looked like he slipped, though.

Indiana pulls off the shocker beating Penn State at home.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It is scary when you look at how young the teams at the supposed bottom are. We can improve a ton and still end up 3-15 next year.

3 of those 4 teams are younger than us. PSU 334th out of 351. Indiana 310. nebraska 286. OSU 175th. RU 268.

MD Iowa MSU are younger than us too. The good news is that some of those schools will lose players to NBA and stay young.

The point you are making is that talent is more important than experience and that making significant progress in the B1G will be a difficult process.Opposing schools having players entering the NBA seem to find a way to quickly rebuild with recruiting players with similar talent level.

No. The point I am making is teams will be improving alongside of us. Getting better may not be good enough.

0-B1G here we come.

Indiana was lucky to escape at Penn State. Their big man Thomas Bryant had the ball 30 feet from the basket in the final seconds, things did not look good. Big time shot by Blackmon.

Also OG Anunoby went down with what could be an ACL or MCL tear in the first half.

It was a non contact injury, I'm praying for that kid

Some Rutgers fans continue to live in a vacuum that if RU plays its best they are going to win games and if they do all these things then we are going to win. Well thats false. Every school has a guy who can coach and can recruit decently. Just because we get to that level in a few years, doesnt mean we are going to move up, lots of variables as to what other schools are doing. Sometimes luck plays a part and you have a small window of opportunity. I see that with Northwestern this year. If Collins succeeds at Northwestern and say makes a sweet 16 trip, he will be plucked away and they will be sent back into the abyss in all liklihood.

the bigger issue is next year what team do we have a realistic chance to be better than...It really is depressing.

need either...
A. lightning in a bottle
B. multi scholarship turnover time (10-12 years) to gradually improve

lightning in a bottle really is the only way, I really do think this...we need to greatly overacheive with talent we have...I think every coach has to do that anyway, we really need to do it.

The more and more I watch college basketball I conclude that this team has to do the opposite of what we are doing and the coach is preaching on the offensive end. Making and taking 3s are critical. No player other than Gettys, Doorson, Thiam should pass up open 3s.

In youth baseball I hated coaches that say don't swing at bad pitches. I get the sense our players are afraid of pulling the trigger.

Absolutely, getting the sense they are gun shy, making them more stressed and causing more misses. You cannot win against almost any team shooting 6 or 8 three pointers a game. We unfortunately average only 4 threes a game but trying to win making only 1 a game these last 2 games is a recipe for losses. We also also turning the ball over with pick sixes and shooting foul shots at a less than 50% clip the last few games making wins into losses. I would think Coach can pry some improvement in all 3 of the above areas.
