Recruiting Tidbits
’18 QB Tyshon Sarratt (Gaffney - SC)
Recruiting the quarterback position is still a task as the next RU quarterback commit may not even have an offer yet. Sarratt has been hearing from schools like USC, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, ODU, Coastal, Harvard, Yale, Duke, and Rutgers. He’s been talking to RU offensive coordinator Jerry Kill about recruiting and was told that Kill was very impressed with his tape. Saratt also told Scarlet Nation that he has been talking with Kill about scheduling a visit soon.
’18 WR Ja’von Hicks (Colerain - OH)
Rutgers is once again targeting another player from Ohio and this time, the staff has recently been showing interest in Hicks, who told Scarlet Nation that he knows a lot about Coach Ash and hopes to get the chance to talk to him soon. Hicks also said he is a big fan of what Ash is doing at Rutgers and hopes to receive an offer from the school soon. He also has a commitment date set for June 10th.
’18 WR Carlton Lawrence (Millville - NJ)
His coach Dennis Thomas is set to speak at an upcoming event at Rutgers soon and Lawrence told Scarlet Nation that his coach has been speaking to RU Defensive Backs Coach Henry Baker recently. It’s possible a Rutgers offer could be in his near future.
'18 TE Matt Alaimo (St. Joseph Regional)
The highly sought-after tight end is intent on visiting Rutgers soon for a spring practice and he has also begun to get recruited by the RU baseball program. Alaimo is considering playing both sports at the college level and this could definitely work in Rutgers' favor. The staff continues to stay in contact frequently with Alaimo throughout the week.
Team Tidbits
Spring practice is set to begin this coming Thursday and here is a look at some early predictions through those upcoming six weeks of practice.
Best Position Battle: Quarterback
What better position to focus on as the top battle of the spring. Gio Rescigno and Tylin Oden will go toe-to-toe running the new version of the Rutgers offense. With Jerry Kill now calling the shots, the slate will be wiped clean and each will have a chance to show how well they have adapted after their first bouts of playing time last year. Senior Zach Allen will also be pushing that duo and keep in mind he took a lot of backup QB reps towards the end of last season.
Early Enroll to Watch: Samuel Vretman
Early word is that his progress is exceeding that of Micah Clark’s. While Vretman may not yet be ready to hold down a starting job, he is making strides at an accelerated rate. This spring will help acclimate him to college football as he could wind up being a steal for Rutgers
Spring Sleeper: Nick Krimin
With all of the talk about Clark and Vretman, redshirt freshman Nick Krimin is steadily building himself into a quality offensive lineman. He could wind up pushing for playing time at the guard position sooner rather than later. Kriminis also a guy that could have himself a breakout spring.

Wrestling Tidbits
Rutgers may have the chance for two NCAA All-Americans this year as Anthony Ashnault and Ken Theobold both went undefeated in the first day of the NCAA championships. Theobold pulled an upset of No.2 seeded Anthony Collica of Oklahoma State and he and Ashnault will need just one more win to achieve All-American status. Meanwhile, four other Scarlet Knights are still alive as they scored victories in the wrestlebacks after losing their opening matches. Here is a look at how each RU grappler has fared thus far and who is up next for the six that are still alive.
