Kevin Snyder on the incoming class of 2011 having swagger:

“I guess you kind of have to. I think even if everybody doesn’t play, it will make everyone else work harder to keep their positions. So everyone will be working and getting better.”

Mike Strizak on getting offers:

“Some coaches will tell you straight out we are offering you and other coaches will come, locate you and talk to the coaches. They don’t really tell you, you don’t really get a good feel from it. You don’t know if you definitely have an offer and you can start considering that school or that it’s a school that might just be a consideration in the future. It kind of messes you up little bit.”

Myles Jackson on how RU looked this spring:

“The offense did well and the defense did well. You don’t want to see either one doing too well because that means something’s wrong with one of them.”

Quentin Gause on going down to Rutgers:

“I’m excited to go down there with the guys like Miles Jackson, Mohamed Sanu, Jordan Thomas, Max and all the guys.”

Recruiting tidbits

Mike Bimonte (Manalapan)

The future RU quarterback is wrapping up his last month in high school and is anxious to join some of his teammates who have already moved in to their new places in Piscataway.

“I’m very anxious to get up there,” said Bimonte. “Today, I was up there and I was talking to Savon [Huggins], Gary [Nova] and Paul [Canevari] and they were telling me what it’s like and I can’t wait. I got another four-week workout from Coach Butler so I’m just going to train my butt off and try to get in as many workouts as possible in the weight room and on the field with Scott Bruner.”

Sam Lebbie (DeMatha)

At one time, Lebbie was high up on Rutgers' board, but his recruitment has slowed down since then. He provided an update on the latest as his offer list stands at seven.

“Everything is the same,” said Lebbie. “Rutgers backed off because of grades.”

Nate Smith
(Archbishop Wood)

The defensive back is picking up more and more interest and is the only one of Wood’s Fab Five not to receive a Rutgers offer. However, other schools are not hesitating as his offer list has bumped up to five.

“Everything is going great,” said Smith. “I picked up two new offers from Michigan State and Temple.”

Nigel Jones (Holy Spirit)

NJVarsity’s 27th ranked junior received an early offer from Rutgers last year, but the Scarlet Knights have eased up on his recruitment. Nevertheless, Jones is still gaining attention and is up to five offers now.

“I have a couple new offers; Old Dominion, James Madison, and Miami-Ohio,” said Jones.

An ankle injury slowed Jones last season but he could wind up pulling in a lot of fall offers as he has the talent to be one of the top running backs in the state in 2011.

Tashawn Bower (Immaculata)

The sophomore defensive end already has a Rutgers offer among others and may turn out to be one of the top recruits in NJ in the class of 2013.

“I was on the phone with Florida State yesterday and Coach Cooley said that he looks forward to recruiting the heck out of me,” said Bower. “I know Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech are interested.”

Keith Foster (Weequahic)

Foster is listed as a dual-threat quarterback but is starting to be recruited as a wide receiver and his athleticism could lead him to lining up in a variety of different spots at the college level. A change of schools will also provide him with a different look this season.

"I'm going to Weequahic next year," Foster said. "My coach from West Side is moving there so I decided to follow him. I actually live right around the corner (from Weequahic). It's like five minutes from West Side."

Rutgers recently visited Foster at Newark West Side and he will also camp in Piscataway at the end of June.

Marcell Lazard (Bloomfield)

The 2013 offensive linemen just picked up his first offer from Buffalo and will camp at Rutgers this June. He is expected to be one of the top OL in NJ’s 2013 recruiting class and could very well leave the RU camp with an offer.
