Quotables
Malick Kone on adjusting to NJ and Rutgers:
"It's new. Where I come from, in Virginia, it was a boarding school, all boys, on top of a mountain. I'm not used to this to this kind of environment...I think Virginia is more quiet than New Jersey."
Austin Johnson on what the team improved on between the first three games (0-3) and the next three (2-1):
"Being in the right spots defensively. We weren't in the right spots defensively and the players in this league were making us pay. I feel like we had lapses today again and that's why we gave up the game. I feel like we have to get back to the basics, start attacking the help and stuff like that and be in the right spots."
on why the team is improving:
"I think the camaraderie on the team is getting better. I think now that we have had captains practices, the younger guys are starting to take initiative and take pride.....We taught the younger guys Coach Rice's defense. Certain spots to be, how to help, which is hard to do in this league. We are talking to the guys, telling them where to be on the floor."
Derrick Randall on how he is progressing throughout the summer:
"Starting to get into my groove, everybody else is starting to get into their groove also. We're playing better as a team, today was...it was just complicated."
Eli Carter, on what was the difference in the two JSBL wins:
"Teach chemistry. We are coming together as a team. Everybody is supporting each other, working hard, and getting better.....We are bonding. Eating together, going to class together. It is all about team chemistry."

JSBL recap
The RU hoopsters’ bid for a three-game win streak in the Verizon FIOS JSBL was snapped by Seaview Jeep last night, as Stevens Gutter Cleaning fell 109-91.
Stevens led 73-72 at the end of three quarters, but 14 fourth-quarter points by former Notre Dame star Kyle McAlarney allowed Seaview to pull away. McAlarney finished with a game-high 35 points, including nine 3-pointers. Seton Hall players Aaron Cosby (20 points) and Fuquan Edwin (17 points) also helped key the victory.
Austin Johnson paced Stevens with 23 points, while Eli Carter had 14 and Wally Judge (12 points, eight rebounds) and Derrick Randall (11 points, nine rebounds) held their own down low.
“We’re going to be playing hard; we're not going to stop playing hard,” Johnson said of the team‘s goal down the stretch. “We'll have some ups and downs. We're playing against tremendous competition in this league. We just have to keep coming out here and giving in everything we've got to try and win."
Recruiting tidbits
Ian Thomas (Franklin, MD)
The highly sought-after wide receiver stated that ‘nothing new’ has devolped in his recruitment, but he doesn’t expect the process to last much longer.
“[I’m] announcing very soon, end of August, beginning September,” said Thomas.
Rutgers still remains in the running, although Thomas stated he is not planning on naming a list of finalists and he will 'just commit.'
Ryan Brodie (Long Branch)
Rutgers still leads for Brodie who will likely make a couple more mid-summer visits to schools and wind up announcing his college choice some time in late August or early September.
Julian Pinnix-Odrick (Montclair)
The seventh commitment to Rutgers' class of 2012 could turn out to be a big one for the Scarlet Knights. He collected more than 20 offers and is hoping to follow his brother (Jared Odrick) to the NFL. Having a brother who made it to the NFL by way of Penn State may have hindered his number of offers according to Montclair head coach John Fiore.
“Julian’s a kid that probably would have gotten another 25 offers if some coaches did not have it in their head that he was automatically going to Penn State because that’s where his brother went,” said Fiore. “George DeLeone’s quote about Julian is ‘he’s the most under-recruited kid in the country.’”
Carlton Agudosi (Franklin)
Since his commitment, Agudosi has become an active recruiter for Rutgers but is also enjoying the benefits of an early commitment.
“It’s been really great, I’ve gotten closer to the coaches, the players and the program,” said Agudosi. “Once I committed, it seemed like everybody in my town found out about it and they really showed their support.”
Bryan Osei (Abington)
The younger brother of Rutgers center David Osei currently holds offers from Temple, Kent State, Stony Brook and Old Dominion. He recently camped at Rutgers and is being recruited by RU tight ends coach Brian Angelichio.
“It went well, I’ve been talking to the coaches but they haven’t offered me yet,” said Osei.
Osei also said he would accept one of those offers before walking on at Rutgers and commented on his brother possibly being RU’s starting center this year.
“I thinks it's great and he deserves it. He's the hardest worker I know and he's been a great example for me and I think he'll do great there.”
Buddy Brown (Williamstown) 2013
The Scarlet Knights extended an early offer to the 6-foot-2, 205 pound linebacker, and Brown is hoping to take a trip to the Banks this summer to learn more about the program.
"I might go up to a summer practice in August," Brown said. "But I still have make sure its okay with my dad."
Brown attended a spring practice in Piscataway and holds another offer from West Virginia.
