Quotables
Myles Mack on the characteristics of a national championship team:
"We just have to play together as a team, work hard in the weight room and on the basketball court. When your team is down, you just have to keep them together, pick everybody up and don't let them fall."
Steve Longa on the rest of his summer agenda after his return from Oregon:
“It’s just training then back to work training with my team to get ready for the season.”
Mike Strizak on waiting to get his written offers next month:
“I’m definitely looking to see who did and didn’t offer. Are the schools that have said they offered, but aren’t really talking to me, still going to send me the offer? Some of those universities I don’t talk to that much so I’m not positive.”

Recruiting tidbits
Duaron Williams (Jones, FL)
The big offensive guard enjoyed his time at the Rutgers camp and left with a high impression of the Scarlet Knights.
“It was awesome, i love it up there,” said Williams. “Rutgers is still high on my list.”
Williams still planning to wait things out and his travels continue as he is currently out in Oregon participating in Nike’s ‘The Opening.’
Derrick Nelson (Archbishop Carroll, MD)
The offensive lineman remains one of the few remaining uncommitted prospects on the Rutgers board, but he isn’t thinking about committing any time soon.
"Recruiting is going good, I’m jus getting prepared for the season,” said Nelson. “I’m jus thinking bout colleges.”
Nelson stated that he did have some leaders, but did not want to reveal exactly who they are at this time.
Derwin Gray (Dunbar, MD) 2013
SEC schools are starting to take notice of Gray, who will go down and visit Auburn and Alabama mid-July. It may be only a matter of time before his recruitment explodes - and an offer from one of the aforementioned schools could do just that.
Dane Dudick (GAR Memorial, PA)
Earlier this week, Dudick came out and said that he was on track to arrive at Rutgers in two weeks, but Scarlet Nation has learned that is not the case. He has not qualified and will not be coming to Rutgers.
Chris Laviano (Holy Trinity, NY)
The 2013 quarterback made the trip down to Piscataway for the Rutgers Camp last week and spoke a bit about the time he spent on campus.
“I really liked the camp, one of the most productive workouts I had all summer. One of the best college camps I’ve been to all summer; great quarterback coaches and they really stress everything it takes to play quarterback at the next level. Right now, Rutgers has shown the most interest in me and right now there isn’t anything I don’t like about the school.”
Charlie Callinan (St. Peter’s Prep)
The 2013 wide receiver has a strong showing at the Schiano Shootout, yet still claims Rutgers as his only offer. He offered an update on his recruitment.
“It’s been good pretty much the same schools except I just got some stuff from Virginia.”
Rutgers has continued to stay in contact with Callinan through the summer.
“They’re going great, I’ve been keeping in touch with all the coaches and I’ll probably end up going back up there for another visit before the season starts.”
Tashawn Bower (Immaculata)
The junior defensive end picked up offer No. 6 last night from Ohio State, shortly after offer No. 5 came in from Florida State. Bower has been putting up some eye-popping numbers, including a 33.5 inch vertical down in Tallahassee and a 4.71 forty and 4.50 shuttle out at Ohio State.
Al-Rasheed Benton (Shabazz)
The 2013 Newark linebacker (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) proved to be impressive in coverage at the Schiano Shootout.
“There is always room for improvement,” said Benton. “I need to make even more plays than I made that day”
Heading into his third varsity season after compiling over 100 tackles as a freshman at Irvington, a number of schools have already been paying close attention.
“So far I’ve heard from Rutgers, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, Purdue, Maryland, Pittsburgh and Minnesota,” Benton said.
Red Lion update
Four Red Lion Christian Academy juniors, who helped lead their team to the Schiano Shootout championship, earned their first offers from Temple per head coach Dwayne Thomas. Rutgers is taking a long look at a these four along with a number of athletes from the Bear, Delaware school.
“Running back Wendell Smallwood (5-foot-11, 190 pounds) had an outstanding day at both the Temple camp running a 4.4 flat, after winning the combine king in multiple combines this season,” said Thomas. “He continued to perform well at Rutgers. Wide receiver Dhameer Bradley (5-foot-8, 150 lbs) has been running precise routes at every event he’s attended this summer. Neiko Creamer (6-foot-3, 210 pounds) will grow into a H-Back/Tight End and he has great genes, his father played at Tennessee and is a coach on the college level. Lastly, Jahmere Irvin-Sills is a very talented wide receiver who is a ball hawk on defense. He’s been clocked at a consistent 4.50 (forty) all summer.”
