I just knew it was a bad omen for the day when I started up my car to drive to the game today and the first voice I hear is Elmer's. Apparently when I turned the engine off last night I was on Sirius/XM's college football station.

Flood and associates were talking B1G football, mostly tOSU and UMich. Flood said that most of the Wolverines success this year was due to Hoke's recruiting efforts, as all the upperclassmen starring on this year's Michigan team were Hoke's recruits. I would have given my right arm (OK, I exaggerate) to be able to ask him whether similarly he thinks that the predicament that RU (and Chris Ash) is in this year is due to his recruiting efforts (or lack thereof).

Kyle actually sounds good on radio to the uninitiated. Maybe he found his calling in life, it certainly isn't coaching (or recruiting).

Hoke could recruit, he just couldn't coach.

Yeah Hoke left them deeply talented but when they play OSU or make the playoffs i believe there team speed will be exploited........Harbough is a hell of a coach also, a majority of those nfl head coaches get there jobs for a reason & imo Lovie has done a helluva job at illinois compared to where they were earlier this season

Michigan is a graphic illustration of how important coaching is to a program's success. Talent has never been the problem there. It's not enough to just recruit 5 star players and wait for the magical transformation into a winning program. It takes player development. That means coaching.

As far as Flood is concerned, how much of his success would he attribute to Schiano's recruiting? Does he believe that the coaches he hired maximized that talent?

I agree and have always said the same. That's why I always put a strong emphasis on coaching/player development and rarely talk about or complain about recruiting. I've always said I see recruiting as a tiered pyramid and most coaches probably can recruit to the same tier for the status of the program where they work. Some will do better and some worse but by and large I think most will be in that same tier. So the differentiation comes with the coaching/development IMO.

Listening to Kyle Flood speak about football is like listening to a 4 year old pretend to be a rocket scientist.

The man is a complete and total bullshit artist who doesn't know anything about college football in the slightest. Even the moderators on the pay board have said Kyle Flood enjoyed pretending to be a coach and talking a big game, but was in no way capable of actually coaching a college football team.

The guy is a fake who likes to listen to himself speak and act like he knows what he's talking about.

You guys need to learn to change the channel instantly, for some reason my Dad tortures himself by listening to Kyle pretend to know football as well.

Someone, ask him why he stuck with the Cover 3 after getting torched game after game and what his favorite Counting Crows song is, please.

So if Hoke is responsible for UM success, then he is responsible for our demise...yes?

That is exactly the point I was thinking of when I read the thread title. Posters on this board have been hammering Flood as the major reason for our situation and I agree with them but the same rule applies in reverse. Hoke recruited well, JH is a great coach taking full advantage of what was left him.
