Flood has to know he's gone at the end of the year

The "investigation"'s sole purpose is to set a legal foundation to terminate Flood without paying the full buyout.... and it will be set.

We should just get it over with and fire him now and let wilson take over and publicly start the search for a replacement. The ruling from the investigation will remain the same and the financial result will remain the same. The only thing i can think of is that they are waiting to be officially bowl ineligible.

Agree/disagree?
I believe if you said Flood has to know he's (definitely) gone at the end of next year I might buy into that assumption. This year is a 50/50 shot. What people don't understand that Barchi hopes he could win 3 more games go to a bowl game so he could tell Herman "extend Floods contract". I hope I'm wrong.

My understanding is you are. Not bc Barchi wouldn't love to stay cheap but because he can't and keep his reputation as an academic.

when you're right, you're right, shill--especially when dealing with your posts

Doesn't Flood have a contract through next season? If so, why would there ever be any kind of announcement about his being retained? If he is going to be fired, then there would be an announcement. Otherwise, I'm not so sure we'd hear anything at all.

I'm not so sure there's any question, among the administration, of his being retained another season regardless of what happens, football-wise, this season. I think that question resides mostly in the minds of the folks on this message board, and maybe a few pundits.

Anything could happen, but it's still my guess that Flood will be around for at least another season and we could lose out the rest of the season w/out changing that. OTOH, if something comes out of the investigation or something new comes up similar to the Barnwell incident, then perhaps he'd be axed.

We'll see. TBH, since I don't see this admin spending what it takes to hire anybody good as his replacement (yet), I don't really care either way.

The mods might as well shut this board down if we lose out and Flood is not fired.
That's true. Although I would miss seeing posts from the 5 forum members who, like clockwork, threaten to cancel their tickets and stop following RUFB each year. Idle threats abound.

Now we are attacking posters who have been here forever. Nice.

And you know this how?

He doesn't know jack. He's just one of the Flood defenders laying the ground work for his retention.

Here's the bottom line. There is the truth to the rumor that Flood will be back even if we don't make a bowl simply because of the economics. HOWEVER - and pay attention this is the big one - if the embarrassment reach epic proportions (such as losing to Army) and/or continually getting blown out - there is an absolute possibility that Flood could get canned.

For one thing, the number crunchers are assuming a packed stadium into their equation. Lost revenue from an apathetic fanbase scares the bajeezus out of these people. This was what almost got Flood fired in 2013 - half empty stadiums.

Second - like it or not, Rutgers is B1G property now. And Delaney doesn't like his members schools making the conference look bad. Competitive is one thing, getting embarrassed there is no way Delaney will put up with that.

So, no it is not etched in stone that Flood is back no matter what. Game of thrones everyone. Game of thrones. Stay one step ahead of the Flood propaganda machine.

I can bide my time for 27 more days.

Spanky, you might want to think about filling your free time by doing something other than being a moderator here.

The uproar ain't going away until he's terminated.
Unless of course we win the last three, in which case the uproar will become the same steady din that has hounded him since he was named.

I hope the hierarchy has a good handle on who the next coach will be before the end of the season. Otherwise, it will be deja vu all over again. Not sure what will be worse, HCKF staying or a repeat of the debacle of 2012 which led to HCKF
That is a reason to move swiftly because the other 8 or 9 p5 programs would be interviewing candidates or even hiring their coaches before Rutgers is even considered.

Agree. All the other moderators have always been more or less neutral, and even if they have their own opinions on something they've kept it to themselves for the most part...unless specifically asked. Their main responsibilities have been to monitor the board, make sure things don't get too out of hand, and do troll cleaning when needed. Have never really seen one who consistently takes a definitive side, especially when it comes to an issue like the Flood situation.

If a person's simply a poster, taking sides is pretty much par for the course. -If you're going to be a moderator and can't resist doing that, then it's probably best to leave that job to somebody else.
On other boards, moderators would delete the number of thread concerning Flood situation. This wouldn't be allowed on other boards. I would know since I was banned on about 5-6 different boards.

There is no free speech on other boards except ND and Rutgers boards.

The Rutgers board does go overboard with some posters going crazy and posting the same crap 20 times every day for 4-5 months. I'm retired but I don't have the time to keep posting the same messages over and over again.

I know there is the idea out there that Hermann is not able to make major moves. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but I do know this is her first shot at being an AD. She knows that football runs the show and its performance will largely determine how an AD is viewed. Does anyone else wonder if she might pull rank here and make a move happen? We know there isn't a lot of money to work with and there were strong signs she wanted to make a move in years past. The donor came forward to keep Flood on board. But the results of this season might be enough for her to know a move needs to be made, regardless of the donor.

Her reputation is on the line here too. I wonder if she will surprise people...

With me you're preaching to the choir. I'm on your side. I'm also a donor and I asked that question to Tango, because you're right, "he doesn't know jack." He was also the clown that gave everyone that disagreed with him a "terrible rating" when we used to have those silly ratings. Now he's trying to defend the non-defendable. All I can tell you, is there's been ongoing discussions regarding Flood's future and bringing in a new coach. Those are real whether someone like Tango wants to believe it or not.

How can it get more embarrassing than 6 player arrests, the email scandal, AND getting drilled by everyone with a pulse? There is not even one successful thing about this program now, gone are the warm fuzzies about doing it the right way and still winning at least somewhat.

The economics are clear- RU cannot afford to keep Flood.

Again, this is why fans need to deluge the BOG, Hermann and Barchi and let them know, keeping Flood equals no renewal

Oh, dear, that makes me so sad. <sniff>

It appears as though you are letting your personal relationship with the coach drive your defensiveness regarding his job status. This is business, not personal. Personal feelings cloud judgement.

Agreed. Tango knows zip.

Even a resulting 6-6 record would only show that Flood can coach to wins over bad and mediocre wins. He permanently lost enough people's support (including mine) with the academic scandal and player arrests/dismissals for a loud discussion to occur at the end of this season as is.

Disagree. Rutgers had all the grounds they needed to fire Flood "with cause" and no buyout in September. The contact with the professor was a direct violation of the terms of his contract, so the idea the investigation is just a fishing expedition to legitimize grounds for his dismissal is silly.

He'll be back next year, even if this team fails to go bowling.

Think you're right and that doesn't make me happy.

Sorry, folks, Flood will not be fired. Laviano will continue to start. Rettig will transfer to an Ivy League School or a non FBS state school in Cali and Walker and Gary will be playing elsewhere. smh

They did with Rice too. It's more of a reflection of the feckless attitude of our counsel and higher ups than anything.

The final report remains, and let's hope it is the nail in his coffin.

No fan of firing people, but a going away present of a million bucks - diminishes my level of sympathy...
HCKF belongs at Lehigh, Laffayette, Ivy, etc... Think, he could be a decent coach, at a place with limited talent - and few choices to make. That is, one good RB, or one good QB, or one good WR.
