All of you people complaining about KF and Rettig can't really think our record would be any better then it is now with KF gone and Rettig at the gun. Listen, while I clearly agree that KF should be dismissed at this seasons end, he hasn't cost us any games. As for Rettig, we haven't seen enough of him in meaningful time to see what he's really made of. Let's not fool ourselves into thinking we would be 7-2 with those changes. If and its a big If our off the field arrests, and injuries were different maybe we would be looking at a different year (5-3 at best). Next year the schedule will ease a bit and hopefully we will have a little more experience under our belt. Please please stop the complaining, it's pathetic! Enjoy the last 4 games (or at least the tailgates) and be glad we are 3- 5 in the B1G and not 3-5 in the Big Least. Ok haters will reply in 3 2 1 .....

You simple don't know that we would have the same record with Rettig, and more importantly, we would be giving a QB with a far higher ceiling the room to grow, not a limited QB who other teams will always be able to gameplay for easier.

We lost to Wash St and MSU by one TD we wouldn't have beaten them substituting a DII QB with and NFL QB? Good one

Correction, we are currently 1-4 in B1G conference play, and 2-1 against a near-atrocious out-of-conference slate (WSU excepted). I suspect we'll be along the lines of 1-7 and 2-2, respectively, before all is said and done, but will watch the games and enjoy the tailgates. But carry on.

Laviano was on the sideline when the 2 plays that decided the WSU game happened. Remember RU had the lead. All they had to do was not let WSU drive 80? yards. RU was going to lose big to Wisky, PSU, and OSU no matter who was at QB. MSU? He played pretty darn well. Cook was just better.

Why when people disagree with you are they called haters? We are Family. We love each other unconditionally.

I don't think this situation about the QB is as much about winning more games as being more competitive. Nobody as far as I can see is saying we would have beaten any of the top teams. But look at our inability to put points on the board at all.
A lot of our problem, imo, is that our defense spends way too much time on the field due to our offense going 3 and out too much. Add to this the fact that our kicking game is atrocious, and you have a great recipe for getting crushed.
As far as the difference between coaches, look at the difference in Michigan from last year to this one. I am not saying we have the players to be like Michigan, we don't. But, we certainly seem to have enough talent to do better than what we are seeing now.
This said, NOBODY knows if Rettig can really be the guy. We could only know if he is given the same chances Laviano has been given. Keep in mind that Rettig has also never been on the field with Carroo.

But we did lose them without Rettig. That's the fact. We will never know how we would have done with Rettig in those games.

No one is rooting against Laviano, people are simply saying that Rettig deserves more opportunities then he has been given.

People are frustrated because something is broken! That's the RU administration and Kyle Flood. Listen Stop with the excuses as to why Rutgers wouldn't be any better with Rettig; what does that mean? Its broken don't blame anyone? Or When the money comes in then you'll see.
That's absurd! Boise state wins with 2 and 3 star players, There a well oiled machine. Even when they loose its not 40-7 or whatever Flood does. Like a robot he gets up there and says Gotta give the QB time to develop. (That;s what he said about Nova for 2 years)He gives us the best chance to be 1-0. Its pathetic period.
He is what he is, money or coordinators won't change that. Direct the anger where it should be. Orval 'Redinbacher" Barchi, Julie and Kyle.
But Kyle needs to be gone yesterday. Or will be doing this same song and dance next year. Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

I love how people can say we wouldn't be any better with Rettig at the same time they say we haven't seen enough of Rettig to know if he's any better.

News flash: that's what the majority of fans have been saying -- give him a chance to see what we've got.

And yeah, a good QB could have made a difference. A good QB always does

Mrs. Fudd please check your facts.
Your son is 1- 4 in the B1G so far and soon to be 1-5.

Overall quality wins are doormat of the FCS - Norfolk, doormat of all FBS Kansas( 40 game road losing streak), and B1G doormat Indiana. You are clueless.

Why were we even in a position to win the Wash St. Game? Because of J. Grant special teams TD's not because Laviano was running a great offense....c'mon now

You come on now. RU lost that game because the D didn't get it done when the game was on the line. No matter who got RU the lead the play in the last minute plus is what decided this one.

People here are talking maybe's based on nothing more than an abstract idea that the back up is better, I'm stating a fact.

Laviano did have a pretty nice game against MSU.

Against WSU, sure the defense was the last unit on the field. But Laviano also single-handedly killed one excellent drive and gave the ball to WSU in field goal range on another. He doesn't get a pass on that just because Grant had a game for the ages. First play of the 2nd quarter, 2nd and 6 on our own 28, he threw an INT directly to a defender. The defense held them to the FG. First drive of the 3rd quarter, we drove right down to the WSU 23. On 2nd and 5, Laviano rolled out and somehow just dropped the ball for a 13 yard loss, just giving it back to WSU. The score was 13-6 at the time.

On the plus side, at the time I really liked how he spread the ball around to so many receivers. Grant had 5 catches; Carroo and Scarff 4 each; Flanagan 3; Bergen 2, Acidiacono, Patton, Goodwin, James, and Hicks 1 each. Where has that gone?

You do raise a good point, though: the season would have a different feel overall if we had managed to hold on against WSU and were sitting at 4-4. The blowout losses would still be a major red flag for the future, but there would be a chance at a 7-5 regular season and another bowl win. Considering the hits to the secondary because they were a bunch of pinheads, that would be a decent final record.

Good post. The only thing I would add is the MSU game was Laviano's best game of the season. He played really well that night except for the last play of the game.

One concern I posted last week was he was on a downward slide. I mentioned I would update after this past weekend. Here is the new graph of Laviano's performance. Good news! No where to go but up from here.

You clearly are clueless. "You People" refers to those who claim Flood/Rettig is the reason we are 3-5. Which we all know is not the reason!

You are right, the reason we are 3-5 is Flood/Laviano not Flood/Rettig.

Rettig has not played when it mattered since the first game. Not his fault we struggle on offense against any team that is not ranked worse than #100 in defense.

i am not saying I don't want to see Rettig get a shot when it matters, all I said was we wouldn't be any better then maybe 4-4. We would most likely be better then 4-4 if our secondary was on the field playing, and LC played every game. Meanwhile like all of you I would like to see Rettig get a look in a meaningful spot.

If I recall, we lost against WSU due to poor defense and 2 called back TDS on very questionable penalties.

That being said, I want to see Rettig because the offense is lost right now and the team as a whole needs a spark. I also want to see what he does in meaningful minutes against better teams than NSU.

To say that RUs record would be different if Rettig was in there instead of CL is just speculative opinion.......however most can see it's time for change.

The "noise" is also a part of the equation to remove Flood. If we all stay quiet and lackadaisical ... we may have to suffer another year of Flood damage. Look at Miami. They finally got enough 'noise' together to push admin's hand.

Personally, I don't think complaining about Laviano/Rettig is effective, but complaining about the COACH's stubbornness in that decision IS warranted.

One of the factors leading to the poor play if the defense is all of the 3 and puts which force the defense to always be on the field.

Nobody can say whether or not Rettig could have changed that situation but its doubtful he could have done less than Laviano in recent games. With even decent QB play, the games could have been different. Not definitely, but could have.

28,32,52,49,48..

We are giving up 41.8 pts per game in the BIG 10.
The ole offensive line coach clearly cant coach defense.

3,24,55,7, 3 (im not counting the 7 pts by the defense vs Wisky)
We are scoring 18.4 per game on offense..the ole offensive line coach clearly cant generate pts..

On average we score 18 and give up 42..

Clearly that is not good enough.

If the team was trending in the right direction then maybe you could make a case if we were seeing improvement.

But this program is on the rd to nowhere.

If there was ever a time for change it is now.

You clearly are clueless. "You People" refers to those who claim Flood/Rettig is the reason we are 3-5. Which we all know is not the reason!
You lose credibility when you refer to any group as "you people." I think you are the clueless one on this board .

Any sane coach would give the "backup" QB a chance when things are not going well, especially when the top 2 QBs were neck and neck down the stretch this summer.

If Laviano was so much better, why did Flood extend the decision time MUCH longer than he wanted to name a starter?
Reason has to be both guys were very close to each other.
Obviously each has their own strengths and weaknesses.

Just give Rettig a couple of series in the 1st half of a game, or to start the 2nd half, when he has the 1st team offense with him.

Ever hear of giving the team "a spark?"
It happens quite often when things are not going well in a game; and guess what? Things HAVEN'T been going well on offense!

Not to mention the play calling /decision making on offense has been dreadful.
Something has to change.
If the results suck, don't keep doing the same things hoping we will have marginal improvement.

Give RETTIG a chance - what can happen?
We score 3 points on offense in a game?
Been there done that already!

It really is maddening!
I wish Flood was my neighbor so I could just ask him 1 on 1 with no microphones or reporters...

Not exactly.
Rutgers has an 18:00 to 12:00 time of possession advantage in the first half against Wisconsin, and we were down 27-3 at the half.
Wisconsin's time of possession on the scores was 1:11; 1:28; 0:49; 0:44 in the first half. At the beginning of the second half, possession went back and forth with a Wisconsin INT followed by a Rutgers fumble, but explosive plays led to touchdowns on drives that lasted 1:13; and 1:09/

Defense needed to be on the field longer making plays, instead of giving up big plays.
