Gimme a break. Flood you are a joke. Laviano can only get so much better - and it's not much. He just doesn't have the tools.

Maybe Rettig will improve if he gets a series - ever think of that? Maybe it's that your lack of football knowledge and coaching ability will be even further exposed if you give Rettig a chance and he succeeds - and it will hurt your pride if you turn out to be wrong.

And the statement that Laviano knows the playbook better does not hold water. I think McDaniels knows the playbook better. Maybe he should start? And yes, i know that is a weak argument because McDaniels can't play QB. But unlike McDaniels, Rettig can play!! Give him a chance!!!

so what he is really saying is Laviano is not there yet, and needs to "learn". Why not say "get valuable experience", but learn? Will he learn how to get a stronger arm? I think not.

Haha you "fans" and monday morning quarterbacks dont realize how silly you look...people that do things like call out the coach on an internet message board are the joke...a false sense of entitlement because you are a fan? do u really think he is reading that nonsense?

And ur 2nd paragraph about "Maybe it's that your lack of football knowledge and coaching ability will be even further exposed and it will hurt your pride if you turn out to be wrong."

Should really be directed at yourself...seriously what is your football knowledge...youre attacking guys that do more x's and o's in a day than u do in a year...

Its not just Flood but McDaniels and also Friedgens input...if they thought Rettig was the better qb he would be in there, he is not soo get over it...Rutgers fans are delusional and awful...i hope for the shitty attitude on this board sake that Flood is here next year and Laviano is the starter so half of you go away

I'm not saying Rettig should start. I'm saying Rettig should get one or two meaningful series' a game so that he gains experience. It won't take much for Laviano to go down during big ten play. At that point you need a backup with experience. It's just a stupid, shortsighted stance to take. Taking one or two series away from Laviano is not going to adversely affect his development. On the flip side it will boost Rettig's development.

100% wrong. Flood told Prince to keep Nova on the field for Kent. That's way Prince left. Flood is as big a control freak as Schiano without the success

He said that? I guess if giving Rettig a series would impede Laviano's learning, then wouldn't it make sense that not giving Rettig a series would impede his learning?

A player, that you told us through game 1 was equal to Laviano?

Sometimes coaches just need to shut up and say I made a decision. Its better to do that than say something stupid.

Funny you say Friedgen. The role Friedgen was supposed to fill as advisor never materialized. He was on campus a total of 3 times this summer and never took on the added responsibility of day to day advisor. He has tremendous knowledge but is not making decisions and is not involved in game planning as originally planned.

Laviano could learn a great deal watching a couple series from the sideline. Ask JT Barrett he made that statement prior to the Rutgers start. He learned more from watching on the sideline than he did from playing in support

Lol...
Flood is running this program into the ground.
We have no chance with him...zero!

Well said. All along through spring and summer we heard these two are neck and neck. Very little to separate them. I get development and consistency when it's working, but you have to adjust when circumstances require it.

Also, I know QB is a different animal, but why doesn't this theory apply to other positions?

And the statement that Laviano knows the playbook better does not hold water.

Both Laviano & Rettig have spent the same amount of time with Friedgen & McDaniels. I doubt much of Ron Prince's playbook that Laviano studied while redshirting applies anymore.

well I would be happy to tell him to his face if given the chance. Perhaps I should send him a personal email?

and clearly x's and o' at Hofstra level is not quite the same thing as winning at the FBS level...

go forth and worship the mediocrity Bob....god forbid some of want more than a 500% team here.
ad yeah know what? I bet if I could get the job as HC at Rutgers with his staff making what he makes my record wouldn't be any worse...then it would be my full time job and changes would be made!

Did McDaniels and Friedgen tell you or the press what their view is? Of course not. Flood is the head coach; he makes the final decision and his assistants are not going to publicly second guess him. I find it almost impossible to believe that anyone wants Rettig to ride the bench and transfer at the end of the year. Well, that is exactly the insane path Flood is pursuing.

Its not the first time that Floods judgment and management skills seem out of touch. I just do not think he has a grasp of what it takes at the D1 level. Maybe a small college but his plans scream small time mom and pop and he and his team has paid for it before. I don't expect this time to work out any different

His comments in regards to the QB situation are really disappointing. He is willing to sacrifice another season so that Laviano can learn. I could completely understand if there weren't another option behind CL, but when you have Rettig in your deck of cards you should probably try playing to win the game rather than be complacent with moral victories.

Flood coaches through his idealism rather than actual x's and o's it seems.

Based on Laviano's footwork doesn't look like he spent much time at all. I will give him credit. He does sling the ball fairly well for a guy falling off balance so much. Just that I don't think that's a consistent skill that will win you games. If your gonna go this route them open it up and roll him out, run him, and have at it. AT A MINIMUM it would be far more entertaining and exciting.

I don't think the guy is bad. I just don't think he's our best option.

Does anyone have video or a quote from Flood? Herbie said this on the broadcast that someone from RU (assuming Flood) said that practice is ok, but for a QB to really get better in this offense, they have to play games.

If so, then how can he make a determination on games, while giving Rettig no time? Especially after his first half performance against NSU with no Carroo? It makes no sense.

I would like to know who said this exactly.

Don't tweet Flood.

Email him, tell him you're worried about OPRA but being a Nigerian prince you can call the Middlesex County prosecutor and ask for our defense to be freed. He might not know what a defense is so take that part very slowly.

We were told long ago that Rettig spent all his time on scout team so he didn't learn or playbook last year. Great planning if you expected him and Laviano were going compete for the start this year.

I'm pretty sure many on here have either played football at some level before, coached it, or have been watching longer than Flood and our staff has been alive. The whole "they do more x's and o's than you do" thing is garbage. It doesn't take Bear Bryant to realize the handling of the QB situation by this staff is horrible.

agree...I notice posters fall back on this argument when they cant counter someone elses point so they use it as the last resort. its so ridiculous because it basically says that no one can have an opinion about any job they never had.
