Former players running scout team?

On game day they said both Alabama and Cal have used former players to simulate opposing offenses on their scout team. This just seems like it should be illegal on so many levels.
Agreed. I heard that and thought WTF?

Own you have teams like Alabama padding their scout team. First it limits potential injury second it's like free agency. Tennessee doesn't have anyone who can drop back pass like Stanford? No problem we will bring Peyton in to practice during bowl prep.

Schools like Vandy and BC can barely get guys in the door to fill an 85 man squad - I've been told its impossible for those schools to find guys on campus to come out and field a decent scout team. They are already at a disadvantage.

Bama and the blue bloods using past players for scout team????? THIS IS INSANITY. They are probably paying them.

I am getting really turn off from college and all pro sports.

Not sure why a team eould do this. Scout team is a place where players down the depth chart can get reps.
Because the scout team guys can't replicate the speed. Not to mention it's like having another coach on the field.

It's because their QB is transferring. Blake Barnett but he's still enrolled in school this semester so he's running the scout team while he takes classes.
