Another high profile job opening. Wow.

Expected to become official this afternoon.

A good decision on Beamer's part. He had a great run and put VPI football on the map but lately the program has been in a downward spiral. Better for him to leave on his own terms than be fired after such a great career.

I do not see GS as a candidate for this job.

Why would GS want that job?

This year is crazy. Not even the end of the season yet. I can never remember a time like this.

I doubt Schiano gets the Miami job, which seems to be going to Butch Davis. I can see Schiano wind up at Illinois or Virginia, should that job become available , which seems the case. Possibly even UCF.

I wouldn't be so sure about everything you just said after Butch Davis.

If you are referring to my post just above , Of course I'm not sure, just an opinion based on Virginia and Illinois programs/universities that seem to place a high priority on Academics as well as Sports. Neither are the traditional Football Factory. Schiano seems to be a good fit at either program. The only reason I even mentioned UCF is that Schiano lives in Florida (Tampa?) not far from Orlando, and O'Leary is now not calling the shots .

Where would you put him if the Rutgers job opens up?

I think Butch's hands have to be pretty dirty from his time in Chapel Hill. A lot to overlook there. If you were going to rank the attractiveness of openings would it look something like this:

Southern Cal
South Carolina
Maryland (if Under Armour money involved)
Va Tech
Miami
Virginia (I think London is done)
Illinois (don't have a track record of paying top dollar for coaches)
UCF

I think I am forgetting one. Not sure RU would have a competitive advantage over any other than UCF.

I am honestly not sure. I think there would be a lot of support for Schiano, IF he was interested in returning, BUT also a lot of folks against his return. If Schiano WAS INTERESTED, I think he would be a finalist for the job, IF it opens. A lot would depend on Barchi's , and maybe Herman's , comfort level with such a big personality , that Schiano has. I don't exactly remember Schiano's relationship with Christie, I think it was ok, that could be a factor as well, I suppose. Maybe Lesniak and Greg Brown as well.

Where would you put him if the Rutgers job opens up?
