10 for 24 at the Free Throw Line ...

So who from the Court Club is going to go down there and shoot free throws with our guys ??? Should get a sign up list started to supervise the team and make sure they're in the gym shooting 100 FTs a day each.

We are so close to pulling a game like tonight off. The defense, effort , and rebounding are OUTSTANDING!

If we made 65-70% of our free throws (which isn't setting the world on fire) and finished better around the rim. We would win a game like tonight's vs Maryland on the road !

Obviously finishing around the rim is an easier said than done type of thing. But the Free Throws are something that is our own doing

I get what you are saying but I do not think its just a case of adding more made free throws and RU wins the game. Game flow changes. Maryland made a big run. As much as RU lost the game because of free throw misses and poor shooting overall, they lost the game because the defense for about a 10 minute stretch was not all that great. Maryland turned the jets on and put the game away. Maryland thought they could just coast to the finish but RU never quit in this game but I had never had the sense the outcome was in doubt once Maryland went up by 9.

This team needs to start practicing these free throws, this team is becoming historically bad, its one to say they are not a good ft shooting team but this team has taken it to a new level each game. Overall shooting whether free throws, or 3 points or missed layups just seem to be something where it is what it is. It always will come back to hurt this team

the same as throwing the same cross court pass thru the defense 3 times to help contribute to 15 turnovers. If you can't shoot, you better make foul shots and limit the TO's...but they don't get it. Shame. Difference between winning and losing for this team.

Don't totally disagree bac, but 18/24 (75%) gives us 10 more points, which distributed throughout the game lets us survive the Maryland runs. We're then never out of the game, more confident, Maryland is more likely to back of a little and get fewer blocks, and a little pressure on the overwhelming favorite puts doubt in their minds.

For whatever reason, everytime we head out after halftime the opposing team gets a run going. It's like the energy or adrenaline wore off after a hectic first half. I mean, yea, you can expect teams to make adjustments, but for once, I'd like to see us come out of halftime with a run going instead of the other team.

Free throws, arggghhh. As aggressive as we are driving to the hoop and drawing fouls, we need to connect on free throws. I feel like Corey and probably the other guys too just psyche themselves out too much. He has a slow release, which is asking for you to tighten up. If you ever watch Chauncey Billups shoot free throws back in the day even in clutch situations, it's a couple of dribbles and a smooth no hesitation shot. Letting muscle memory do the work. I always thought we could use a sports psychiatrist in the athletics department, given all the times we've come so close and just fell short, especially football where Teel, Nova, and even Laviano had their moments when they had a good game, but made a costly mistake.

Lastly, I wouldn't mind seeing Nigel attempt more threes. I just think he needs to be more balanced when he's going up for the shot. That step back three that I see him trying sometimes. That's gotta be a tough shot, where I feel sometimes he can get some decent looks coming off a screen or when people are daring us to shoot threes.

debate all U want about finishing around the rim and free throws,,,
I love these guys.....THIS will ALWAYS be "THE" team that "turned ot around" for me
but THIS is the real problem

Laurent 0-1...come ON Florida guy,,,,,LIGHT IT UP !!!!
Diallo... 0-4...some were point blank just DUNK IT misses...this guy will be a FORCE when he matures
Thiam.. 0-0...one of these days he will click & go 6-9 at the THREE !
Omaruyi 1-2...I LOVE his hustle !!! POSS my fav new player(smart!!)
Sa .........1-3...cant tell you how GOOD this guy could be !!!!!!!!!
Doorson 1-2 ....he has the idea....just doesnt finish...he WILL be a FORCE!
Williams 1-7.. 5-29 in the last 5 games...shooting shooting a blazing 17%
................4-19

Omoruyi hustles but he made some terrible passes last night.

The kids are undersized and are poor outside shooters. They have to work much much harder just to hold serve. They give good effort, but they get tired. And tired = careless.

Ring back naked FT practices? Williams number is going down because teams are not sleeping on him anymore. Freeman needs to play in the flow of the game. Johnson has been disappointing. Maybe expectations were too high. Team is working hard. That's all you can ask for.

the whole season. terrible passer. (although that one under the basket on the break was very nice). He forces the one's out top way too much. BUT, clearly potential in this guy.

Sa has great innate capabilities. One step and he is into the paint. What do you see out of him down the road?I too think he is a player that will help out a lot.

Coach said if freshman contribute, that is a bonus. That makes up about 1/3 of the list. Really happy for Diallo and his progression. That is huge for the team. With more exposure, he will be a 7 and 4 type of kid, or better.

Use the legs when shooting free throws....bend the knees....please.
Changing biomechanics at this stage of the game is diminishing returns. It's like asking a college QB to change his throwing motion. I mean, sure you can do it, but it'll take a lot of time and practice to yield a lasting change. You could make the argument that it's probably more productive to concentrate that time and effort elsewhere.

For the season RU is 282 FTM / 450 FTA = 63% free throw percentage as a team

That is 323rd out of 347 teams in Division 1 this season !! (does not include this week's games)
http://stats.ncaa.org/rankings?sport_code=MBB&division=1

And want to know how important Free Throws are ... Michigan St is having a down year, and you can find them only one spot above RU on the FT% rankings (basically shooting also the same %).

I also saw Kansas near the bottom of this list, but obviously they're having a good year so they are overcoming that.

Too many players getting significant minutes but are non contributors on offense. Can't win if you can't score which clearly has been shown in league games.Sanders only scoring 2 points in the second half was decisive because there are no backup players to take up the offensive load. Its a talent issue that can only be addressed with better recruiting which won't happen until 2018.

The problem with Sa is that he is a junior and we only have one more year with him. Not sure how much more we will get. Hopefully the staff can bring out his best attributes and minimize his deficiencies.

Don't forget the other thing number with free throws that is not reflected in the shooting percentage is when you miss the front end of the one and one you are in essence 0 for 2; So the percentage is actually lower!!

Good point. I do think he reaches another level. I saw him after the game and said great game. He seems like a kid that will work with others if they are trying to help him.

I could see something like 6 and 6 next year potentially.

Best thing that is happening right now is that we are seeing improvement and growth from Diallo. Good for him. Also, good for the RACPAC.

Our Points:
Corey
Nigel, Mike, Deshawn
Put Backs
Foul Shots . . . so, exactly: this team cannot give away 8-10 FT points
