12-27!!! And at least 4 or 5 of those were the front end of one and ones. You are not going to win any games with that kind of shooting from the free throw line

That was shocking to me too. In the early part of the season we shot 78% in some of the games. If you're not going to be on par talent-wise, at least hit your damn FT's. It's not just a matter of practicing your FT's. It's a matter of focus. Being able to shut out the crowd. It's inexcusable to shoot 12-27 from the charity stripe. Inexcusable.

Most HS teams can shoot better FT's,so I don't think it's anymore than being out of shape, and not having their legs under them. It's why we always practices FT's after practice after doing baseline to baseline running. Rutgers does put a lot of energy into playing defense, and I think this has something to do with the poor shooting.

It's also the easiest thing to practice on your own
Easy to practice on a hoop, with no crowd and no exhaustion. My friend and I used to take 10 shots each and keep going until we took a 100 each, and then start again. We always considered it bad if we didn't hit 80 out of 100, and on many occasions we'd both get into the 90's.Totally different in game results, lol.

It gets me so angry watching the missed free throws. I know we are not a good shooting team but 12-27...yikes!! Foreman drove me crazy last year and last night when our bigs got fouled, I knew what would happen next. We need to focus on getting better but I don't want guys worrying about this because it will get worse. Just go and play... relax and get in the gym and practice.

A few times it looked a player was guessing how far the basket was away. It's about focus and muscle memory and not that hard if you play basketball like you would a full time job.

I've said it before & am dating myself, but these guys who can't put the ball in the hole from 15 feet with no one guarding them should be shooting FT's underhanded. Rick Berry, the greatest ever, shot them that way, with an over 90% rate, as did the great Dolph Schayes with a near 90% rate. The ball kisses the rim more softly & most often falls into the hole. There was recently a piece on a college hooper who was shooting in the 20's & converted to this style & is now near 60. And they need to practice, practice, practice.

I am particularly disappointed in the guards. How can they miss FTs?? I'd rather see CJ step up to the line than Sanders or Johnson.

Poor foul shooting is just another indicator of being a poor shooter. It takes practice and repetition of getting the shot over the front rim. Many of the missed foul shots are clanging off the back rim which tells me their technique isn't right.

Bad shooters are often poor free throw shooters. It's a bad sitch when you have the most confidence in your 7 foot center at the line.

If you're a gym rat and are dedicated to FT shooting, you will be fine. Love to know who is spending the extra time to hone their craft.

as of a few weeks ago, B. Knight was responsible for FT shooting drills (per Pikiell post game conference). Not sure if they have changed things up since then

things have gotten so bad, that I believe it's mental at this point

but yes, they need to fix this quickly.

very disappointing.
