most successful coaches don't just coach at the half or after the game. There is 60 minutes during the game that makes just a tad of difference. Almost 20 games in. You see him get in a player's face yet?

You're nitpicking. Every coach has a different style. How did getting in a player's face work out for Mike Rice? Okay, that's a stretch by me all kidding aside. But, this is nonsense. Not everyone is coach K. It's almost as if you're insinuating that coach is fine with sloppy play because he hasn't gotten in someone's face. Or he's complacent and is not teaching during the game. I'm going to assume that's not what you mean... So what exactly are you getting at? Because quite frankly I believe, along with a lot of other people, Pikeil knows what he's doing.
This is true. It's tough to keep that attitude once those L's stack up though
nailed it. zero toughness. body language was horrible all night. and that is why I am asking how come the coach doesn't seem mad or pissed. Takes Luarent out after a horrible play and gives him a pat on the ass. Izzo would have kicked him in the ass.
How are we measuring this? Getting dominated on the boards and playing terrible D. Please tell me how we are playing hard in the 2nd half. Time to face the facts. Coaches need to do better.
I'm a long term fan of SP...yes. but there is a big difference between throwing balls at kids, calling them ******s, and running up and down the sidecourt like a nut vs. just getting pissed ONCE and saying that is not acceptable. I know he doesn't have options but that doesn't mean he should be afraid to challenge them. His answer to guys making stupid mistakes is to kindly take them out of the game and pat them on the back as they take their seat. I would like to see what getting pissed looks like... if we're gonna lose what the frack is the difference trying that approach if warranted? . I'd even take a damn T foul to get them fired up. My perspective.

Rebound well? Check the stats. We got killed on the boards. Shooting 3s is like a TO for us.

you would think if this is our strategy we could come up with some other way to get them better shots. Why don't we just press the whole fracking game and try to score off TO's?
not sure why you are quoting me..said nothing about rebounds end game. They shot 50% second half. we couldn't hit crap. rebounds and TOs not a factor. (but that is cause it is always something with RU...never one thing. We're consistently inconsistent).
Didn't see the game, but just from looking at the stats: The guy who took the 2nd most shots on the team was 2 of 14? Outrebounded by 9. NW called for 23 fouls vs 15? yet we lose pts at the line by 7 (?). NW may have blocked a lot of shots, butseemed like we had them fouling us underneath a lot.
Questions: Are our guys so out of shape that they're gassed by the second half? Opps make adjustments and we don't? Our bench is that much of a drop-off? Why does Johnson shoot so much when he misses so much?

He had an open look at one point in the second half. Top of key, didn't shoot it. He looks afraid.
Thiam had one open look at one point in second half also, didn't shoot it, didn't drive,nothing. Was literally the only opportunity he had with space and choked.
I loved our effort the 1st 18 minutes and hated the last 22. The way I see it....we couldn't afford to be without our guard who shot 2-14. He was so good and effective defensively. The minutes he sat NW scored at will. Too bad his offensive game was awful on many levels.
He's turned four programs around with his coaching style, so I give him a lot of latitude. He's instituting a culture change, much the way Ash is in football. We didn't have the ponies in football and we don't in basketball. Eddie didn't coach while here, Flood didn't coach while here. Making matters worse for basketball is that our facilities need major upgrading. The pieces are coming together, but we are competing against teams that have had money and at least a semi-interested administration for decades. We need time because we are newcomers to big time athletics.
I like Pikiell and his staff and am confident they will take us in the right direction. I'm not a basketball expert, but I assume they realize we need to get shooters into the program.
no our offense was terrible in the first half, Northwestern laid an egg in the first half, 2nd half they decided to play somewhat. I knew in the first half that RU wouldnt win..no talent to put the ball in the hoop. Only way they did it was through circus shots. Jordan brought in Sanders and thats great., Otherwise Johnson/Williams would see 5-10 minutes a game elsewhere and the others would ride pine. The heralded Doorson and Diallo provide nothing but minutes. Laurent has disappeared. Many overrated the talent that EJ left and recruited, it will take time for Pike to fix this
