MSU shooting 56% from the field, 50% from downtown, and 75% from the line. And it doesn't seem like we're playing that bad on defense. Shooters matter.

Like someone said. Between the whistles not too bad. Need to step up free throws and need a much better performance from Freeman and need to wake up Thiam and Sa. But we can still beat some teams, and we will.
This is our worst defensive effort of the season. But yes, Mich St is shooting well above their average from down town. Then again we haven't closed out well.
It's probably somewhere in between their hot hand and our D. Stats wise we should have about 5 more points form from the line and then 6 or 9 less from 3.
the game of college basketball is all about offense and shooting. Michigan state defense sucks. We have had tons of open shots and we stink. I watch a ton of games and it is all about scoring.
Gotta go weak side on that, and he went straight up, the only place he could have been blocked. Shit drives me nuts.

Great team hitting everything while we continue to miss layups and free throws. Not so sure this is our "worst" defensive effort of the season. I'd give that to the 2nd half of the Seton Hall game. I haven't seen us stop hustling tonight which is more than we can say for that half or the PSU game.
How freakin depressing is this ?? What a joke . So frustrating that we can't even enjoy a damn game on TV .

How are we supposed to get a stable of good recruits in here with a 1 or 2 win conference record?
I'm really concerned that we won't win a conference game. This a tough league - no gimmes like the Big East every once in a while. Not sure how we can win a game. We have absolutely no shooters. We're a one man team. We have the least productive frontcourt I've ever seen. I thought Sa would be an alternative to Freeman or Gettys on an off night but he has been ultra unproductive. Thiam might be nice athlete but he hasn't produced anything this year and he's the one young guy that was supposed to be a shooter. The roster is full of guys that just aren't productive in any way. So overmatched. Not a lot of reinforcements ready to step in next year. Very discouraged right now.

Agree. Competition has gotten much better, but even with that, it appears several players have regressed.

You guys gotta give our team some credit. They were able to stay within 30...that's something to be proud of.
The problem is, we allow everybody to shoot that well. We need longer defenders (a la Boeheim, who recruits for his 2-3 system). But we are in this game if we shoot well from the line. It changes how loose MSU is against us as we come down the stretch. If we make 10 more free throws, which still puts us in the 70% range, it is a single-digit spread coming down the stretch.
this is the reason why we go through coaches every 5-6 years, no one has solved it, but this team is simply not good enough....not talented enough to win games in the league...that is Pikiells job. He was a solid hire but its revisionist history if people think this was a slam dunk hire. Unfortunately Pikiell was about as good as it was going to get. The job and perception is unattractive. Pikiell is facing an enormous task, he can coach but its all about recruiting and thats what he has to do...lets just be happy we have a guy that can do at least one because Jordan didnt do either
weak side D rotation to the guy cutting to the rim has been poor all year. Big comes out to defend the line and nobody rotates over.
Perhaps even better – – I don't think there would've been 17 teams that could have beaten them tonight.
