Game Thread RU vs Michigan St, 6:30, BTN TV , story :

what it shows is that we have closed the gap with the cupcakes and beating them but we have not against league foes. Its still a 5 game improvement over last year already and maybe give them one or two more.

There is a reason I shouted down all those people who thought we could go from 7 wins to 16 wins in one season...and even I got fooled after the SHU game, reality is going from 7 wins to maybe 12 or 13 wins is improvement given the poor talent we have here

I will admit that I for one thought we'd win 4-5 coming off the non-league play but what concerns me more is not about what the other teams are doing last 4 games but what we aren't doing anymore. Regression by a number of players who seem rather tired?
Some of these guys just look like different players just cause the league play started. (just like the Miami game. They seem to go into a different mode)

I still think 4-5 wins can still happen. Have to keep opponents under 1 point per possession. We cant score 72+ so we have to dig in defensively

good luck keeping those Big 10 teams under 65....only ones I can see allowing a grind game is Penn State Illinois and maybe Michigan

That's fine but I'm talking about making passes to open players at their feet, horrible closeouts. Missed FTs and missing tons of two-foot shots at the basket. Def agree with you that the Jordan era was horseshit but I still want to see team improvement since the opener, and right now, I don't.
Got ya. No argument from me on the result of the passing, but the movement and the rotations are better (they were non-existent under Eddie). The FTs are mind-boggling, as are the misses with open threes. Even the layups. My hope is that these guys get angry about losing. Believe it or not, it is possible to flip a switch and say, fvck this, I'm going hard to the hole and hard after the ball, gonna pass the ball hard and I'm gonna run hard. They don't know the system well enough and I don't see a high-enough collective bball IQ. When you have a pass picked off at the top of the key, then are posterized after a two-on-one break the other way, guys like Thiam might decide to play hard and aggressive when they have the ball. And this applies to our guys with wide open looks under the rim. Getting angry can make you focus better.

Penn State will likely be 13th in league and 4-14. Michigan State will be 13-5 and getting a 6 or 7 seed in the NCAA tourney.
PSU might do better than 4 wins. They have talent, and the question will be how quickly they come together and if their coach knows what to do in game situations. But yo are spot on with MSU. I knew they were a lot better than their start, and was shocked the line was only -13 tonight.

Wisconsin Miami seton hall and Michigan state all have similar metrics offensively. Michigan state scoring 93 points was unexpected. If they score 1.1 points per possession we lose 80-65

There is a world of combined difference between talent, coaching, and home/away. How can you say there is little difference between 6-12 and 11-7???

Bottom line. Michigan State offensively is not a type of team that should score 80+ points in us. Guard play is not great. If Corey, Mike and Nigel do a better job defensively it wouldn't have been a dunk fest

It will be MSU - 6.5.

I don't know what to expect. It will be jammed packed and loud with fans from both teams. I am going to be in the area so I thought about going...stubhub cheapest seat is $200+.

I don't know what to expect in the game. I do think Penn state has a good chance of winning. I don't think Michigan State is that good. Guard play isn't strong and if you make them work you slow down Bridges and the big guy.
