Gettys is limited offensively, slow and not terribly athletic. As said above, if he were a better player, he would have been at a Power 5 school with a better team than RU-- and he wouldn't have come here for his 5th year. He bangs, he plays hard, he doesn't quit and he fires up the crowd. He can clog up the paint, and score against some bigs. You were expecting, maybe, the young Bill Walton for a 5th year grad transfer from UNC Wilmington? Repeat after me--without the limitations some posters are carping about, he wouldn't be here. He brings a lot to the team, and just be glad he chose us.
Would guess the carping comes from those that started talking about an NCAA bid after we cleaned up on our easy OOC sked.

What did that have to do with him missing an uncontested layup on his drive. Or his open 13 elbow jumper when he was wide open or his air ball from 4 feet that went 2 feet. He has not scored a lot in most games this year and if he makes just the uncontested shots last night we likely win . The competition will ratchet up but last night's game did not have another 7 footer guarding him like Purdue or Indiana will have. He just had a bad game with no rebounds or assists . He will help us a lot if he can continue to back down his man and hit his soft hook shot.

Come on guys....he had a bad game. Fact is he is not an elite big man, but he does give us a presence. I like that he defends with his hands up, but he got some bad calls, and there were some athletic plays where they got around him for some easy put ins.

I'm sure he knows he didn't have his best game, and that sucks. Chalk it up to sh!t happens and move to the next game.

(Let's not forget that he did win us a game as well!)

You and Willis are blind and tilt everything negative against Rutgers because of the years of ineptitude. Guess what ? We have a new team, with a new coach, with a great staff, and great depth, height , and a bench. We have not played a complete game yet except for Ccsu. Start thinking glass half full once in a blue moon. It will help your blood pressure and make you feel better than always thinking negative or issuing disclaimers or slow down orders.

SIAP. Didn't read through the thread. Give the kid a break. He had a bad game. He wasn't exactly transferring to Kentucky. Kid is a team player and a positive influence. He'll do what he needs to do. He did help us win 11 games already.

Stupid point. He obviously is athletic enough to participate in 5 years of D1 bball.

Gettys had a bad game.
Thiam didnt play.
Laurent didnt do well offensively but his D was good and he did have 6 REBs
Sa only had 2pts and NO REBs
Omoruyi only had 2pts
and STILL we were up by NINE at the half !

Looks good vs. UNCW caliber teams, but when it's time to play at B1G level, he's not the quality of big we need. Love the guy's heart, but he's too slow and not close to athletic enough to match up with the type of talent he'll see for the remainder of the season. Would rather see us playing Sa, Diallo, etc more from here on out. Doorson also is not athletic enough and really doesn't belong on the floor.

CJ is part of a team and what ever he can't do their is someone on the bench that can. We should be happy to have the young man on our team.
