The last drive he put together was amazing

Just goes to show any position up for grabs

Ash doesn't deserve any credit whatsoever for Gio.

Let's not forget that every fan with a set of eyes knew Laviano shouldn't be out there from last year. The tape was as clear as day. But lo and behold, Ash had him starting.

If Gio was our QB from the start, hell we arguably might have beaten Iowa and Illinois. Be looking at 4-3. He'd be seasoned in this game, and not making these growing pains.

And Gio's proving he had all the tools and was a much better fit for our offense from the start. Than anyone else on the roster. Like many of us have argued, some players are just better gameday guys than practice players ... and Ash should have spotted his potential.

Instead, what's scary is that this guy is the real deal... and Ash played 3 other guys before going to him.

I know it's Monday morning QBing here. But the kid did have a nice run against Howard in his one play. Then we started the QB merry go round of rejects, before going back to him. We were told he needed to work on his passing game, comes in and makes the other QB's look like they have never thrown a football before. I think the staff might want to change their talent evaluations in practice.

Would be nice to watch Gio today with 5 or 6 games of experience behind him, we wouldn't be going through growing pains this late in the season. Watching the same mistakes and lack of spark week after week it makes me wonder if this coaching staff ever watched last years tapes. Coming into this season it was clear Laviano was not a good match for this offense. Martin had to earn back a starting job through the first couple of game? Hicks relegated to 4th string running back, ridiculous. Those two guys have had good games against good competition in the past how did they suddenly lose the talent at the beginning of the year. My point- in order to do well going forward these coaches are going to have to recognize and harness talent. If they cant motivate talented individuals to play for Rutgers , talented players will stop coming here.

Ash better have an amazing explanation for the move as it's the summation of our issues- he is in over his head or just a below average head coach.

Fact that they put in Oden even though Gio was coming off of a great drive tells you that this staff is committed to their recruits no matter what and they aren't really not concerned about wins this year.

Which is bad. Shows that they are stubbornly set in their ways and pick favorites to the detriment of the team. This game has started me thinking that maybe we picked the wrong coach. A coach that is not flexible is one that is doomed to failure.

Have a glass of milk dude.

Politi mentioned in his article last Sunday, that Gio is NOT the long term answer. Its obvious Ash wants Oden to be QB going forward into next season. At least Gio can audition should he decide to transfer out.

People acting like Gio was this proven commodity. He's a RS soph who had an awful spring. He got better during summer and fall camp and is obviously still developing. Even Mike Teel didn't light it up until the second half of his RS soph year despite having all American talent around him in an offense that was in place for a few years.

tell you what, if this kid plays like this without any real experience then he may be the answer and long term option

Also, DO THEY NOT TEACH THESE KIDS TO KNOW WHERE THEIR FEET ARE ON THOSE PASS PLAYS??????? PATTON, WTF?????

The Gio we're seeing now is nothing like the Gio we saw in the spring. A lot of credit goes to Gio, but we have to give the staff credit for developing him.

Audition, he not in the to audition he is there to kick ass and take names. He is not the answer how can someone make that determination, based on what.

I would've given him credit in August or early September. Now, I'm just thankful he wised up...... And then he plays Oden to kill Gio's momentum. Amateurs.
I'm thinking that Gio had an equipment problem or something. There's no other reason Oden would've gone in.

The coaching staff has bungled personnel decisions regarding Gio this season. They put him in for one series in the Howard game when we were up in a blowout. You've installed a new offense and snaps are at a premium for your quarterbacks. The only reason to put him in then is for him to audition for more playing time. He maxes out his opportunity by rumbling for a forty-yard score, and we don't see him again until the Illinois game? And in that game they stick him in in the second half when we're down two scores. You've got a quarterback with almost no college game experience and you decide to play him in the second half of a game you really need to win down two touchdowns? That is not putting your player in a position to succeed. Gio comes in and his first series is a three and out at a time in the game where possessions are at a premium. To Gio's credit, he played fairly solidly the rest of that game, but I think the coaching staff has mishandled his playing time all season up till now. I don't give them any credit for that.

Funny. All week I read about burning Oden's RS and how dumb it was. For weeks I've read forget about this season and play the future. Now we find out Oden will get snaps every game. Did I love the timing? no. Maybe the staff thought he was the best shot to break a long run. Additionally, we need a back up, with the way Gio plays he's going to get dinged. Whole lot of bitching going on...especially by a group of people who had us losing by 50.

Burning Oden's redshirt was dumb because he isn't ready. Playing him while he isn't ready is still dumb. He needs to put on 30 more pounds and the coaches need to have more faith in his pass before they put him out there. No one should get playing time just because he is the only QB you recruited. That shit needs to be earned.

This. Either Gio or Oden should have been given the job from either the beginning or game 2. If they had been able to get some serious work in from the beginning, they might have learned enough to win a few games in the 2nd half of the season when the schedule is much more favorable.

Can anyone realistically offer a reason Laviano was the #1 other than he was last year? If the idea was he is great in practice is true, I would have thought it might only take 2-3 games to be convinced that Laviano plays different in actual game situations. We had a full year of tape on him; how many more games this year were necessary to see?

Was the decision made by Ash or Drew M ?

When the sky was falling and Ash was being called a bum, Gio was not the name coming up from the angry mobs (it was Oden and Allen). So so much for the instincts of the angry mobs.

Hopefully Gio can stay healthy. Don't like a player hobbled-up in first start verses one of weaker teams

I am sorry but if you think that LDW Laviano was better than Gio and only now a few weeks later, did Gio pass him up...well you need to "ash" your joint...

Starting Laviano and the insertion of Odin shows that either the staff is clueless or trying to make some kind of recruiting point when the only goal was to win.

This could have been a bowl team with this schedule, we almost certainly beat Iowa with Gio, maybe Illinois and don't get so embarrassed the other games.

With this schedule? Bowl team? With these linebackers? Listen I love the Gio move but don't let the fact that he's turned it over 4 times in 6 quarters escape you. One thing Laviano was finally doing (save for the INT vs UW) was taking care of the football.

Ok well let's see. 2 OOC wins. Do you not think Gio converts one of those 3 empty red zone trips to the end zone?

That's 3. I think even now we could still win 3 of the remaining games, and it's not out of the realm to consider we might have won last week or today if he were more experienced.

Let's see how the next games go, but I would be wholly unsurprised to win a few and wonder what could have been.

Gio also scored more points than we have all this year, and Minnesota is better than Illinois and on par with Iowa. Going back to last year, other than awful IU and MD this is some of the most points we scored in a while.

Gio is like a Teel or a Nova, you sometimes love him, sometimes wonder what he is doing, but Laviano is downright awful, how many B1G games without a passing TD? You won't win games like that.

He'll reduce the # of TO's over time and, even with 2 today, we scored 31 freakin' points!
