Golden out at Miami!

I am also surprised by the number of college HC's getting canned during the season. Miami was never thought to have really deep pockets so its interesting that they are willing to eat Golden's contract that has several years to run. Can't see RU doing that and that is the difference between us and those who truly want gridiron glory. I do think that Golden was there during a rough period with the whole Nevin Shapiro scandal. The school skirted a very severe penalty due to the ineptitude of the NCAA yet he continued to recruit fairly well. If I am Schiano I am making calls to get involved there. The amount of talent in the immediate area is immense and he probably still has ties there. Not sure Miami is going to do that much better unless there are some donors (perhaps former players) who are putting together the finances to make a big offer to an established coach.

I'll say upfront my knowledge of Al Golden is nowhere near the in depth insight so many on this board have. I just remember him as somewhat successful HC at perenially poor Temple, a successful recruiter I Think at Penn State (?). In fact, I believe his recruiting prowess is what got him the job at Temple and subsequently at Miami.
Seemed like he recruited decently at Miami under difficult circumstances, but apparently he's not HC material in the weak ACC.
Soo my questions are these: As a coordinator, how did he perform? Would he be coordinator material for RU? He would come cheap, as he's still being paid by Miami. He's been terrific in recruiting the northeast for a number of schools. He may also figure he could be in position to move up to HC should Flood be terminated.
Is this a scenario we should consider? This board doesn't seem to be too pro Golden, but would that change if he was a serious candidate for coordinator and possibly HC?

Interesting thought, but I don't think he would take step down to a coordinator position. He was Defensive Coordinator at Virginia 2001-2005 when they had some decent years. Would he consider being Defensive Coordinator?

I am telling you now.... Golden is next coach at RU!

Also, did Chas Dodd get in on the 11" Foot Long lawsuit? They could owe him money!

Bring back Schnelly !

How old is he now, 100?

Many on here wanted golden. The grass is always greener crowd

I wonder what color tie he'll wear next.

The next school he works at should have a contract clause that forbids his from a wearing a shirt/tie on the sidelines and that he hast to wear a Matt Ruhle style coach shirt, and he can't combine the two like PJ Fleck does. Just because.

This has to be one of the weirdest seasons with all the in season resignations and firings. I can't remember so many in season, pretty unusual. Is this just an aberration or a start of a new trend?

Aberration. There were 6 P5 coaching changes in 2014 and 7 in heading into this season, for 13 over the last two seasons. The previous seasons? 12 in 2011, 14 in 2012, and 13 in 2013. On average there are about a dozen head coaching changes that happen every year at the P5 / BCS level and the last two seasons were well below average. It is reasonable to expect 15 -- 20 P5 openings over each of the next two seasons.

Thanks for the stats but I was actually talking about the number "in season" firings/resignations not the total changes overall in a given year. I can't remember a time where there have been so many firings and resignations during the season.

So I was wondering is this "in season" movement going to be the norm going forward or is it just an aberration this year? I don't know.

Kind of wonder if Rich Rod would be interested in Miami. Also wonder in Miami would be interested in Holgorsen at WVU. All that speed and talent in Miami with their spread offenses could be interesting.

Miami would probably have to make it enticing enough for Rich Rod to forego whatever those MLP shares may be worth. Holgorsen you may say hasn't done much at WVU in the B12 and that's true but I wonder how much harder that job has become since the move to the B12. Much easier to recruit talent to Miami.

I know most think Schiano is the fave but I wonder if they might not be interested in one of the many spread coaches around the country.

Miami has one small problem: The stadium it plays in is over 20 miles from campus and a half hour drive. They should play in Marlins Park or build a new on campus stadium or use FIU's stadium, which is close to the U (and make it bigger).
