I really don't know who I think should start. I was baffled as to why Hicks didn't get carried before today. Unless Martin was hurt can't figure out why he was out there today but then Goodwin looked awesome today. I'd say leave it to the coaches but then the played Laviano over Gio which is a complete mystery
How many times does it need to be said. Gio was bad in the spring and not great in the summer. How many QB's do you think are getting significant reps during game week? Last week, while running Ilinois Scout he looked good so they went with him.
Goodwin brings alot of tools to the offense,good blocking,good hands to catch balls,solid runner..only problem he is not a threat to go downfield on a big breakoff run after linebacker level..not a burner speed or moves back. need to mix other runners into plays.
Haha. So instead of trying other guys the better idea was to continue to start the guy who can't throw or run. Did Gio magically just learn last week to throw a million times better than Laviano? We all knew he could run a million times better.
WRONG. Merherringer had this love fest with Lavaino..read the bullshit they both said about how close they were in summer camp..blah blah..only problem..Merthenger stuck with Lavaino TOO long.and now the breakup between the two(not pretty) will probably see Lavaino leave..and Merherringer looks stupid after todays performance by Gio.
Hes running a power spread offense with a QB who cant run(Laviano) which made ZERO sense. square hole round peg..stupid waste of games by Merrhinger and Ash..hopefully rookie mistakes by both coaches and they learn from it.
Once again our fans show their ignorance. Love affair with laviano or not has nothing to do with Gio. Gio wasn't losing reps to the starter. He wasn't getting reps because based on the summer he was 4th on the depth chart. Even if laviano was benched week 2 Gio probably doesn't get reps. If Gio didn't kill it as scout QB we still wouldn't know about him.

Isn't on the coaches to evaluate what they have correctly especially when what their putting out there is historically bad? I mean if he plays half as good as he did today he'd be light years better than Laviano. I actually like Laviano. He gets a lot of shit for being the guy the coaches play in a system that he doesn't fit well. But if you think the difference between these two is something that just gets missed I don't know what to tell you.
This is hard to believe. Killing it on the scout team = starter? What can you learn from that? He can make throws and he is athletic? Two things that is very obvious especially compared to CL.

You can't miss it if it's not there to see. I'll say it again, he was bad in the summer. That makes him 4th string. 4th string QB's don't get a lot of reps. Allen and Oden have been getting the reps because they were supposed to be the bridge and the future. He lit it up as scout QB and Ash pulled the trigger. Instead of bitching you guys should be pumped ash trusted his scout team play enough to give him the job. Should our coaches started handing out first team reps to fifth string linemen just in case?
Do you bother to watch the press conferences? Ash specifically said he showed things he never had and made plays he never had while simulating the Illinois QB.

I hear excuses all the time. I'm happy they made the switch. Just wish they did it earlier. This is a 6-6 team with good coaching. It's his first HC job so I'll give him a break.

If this guy went from so much worse than Laviano over the summer to a million times better today while getting 4th strong reps than this is the biggest player improvement ever. Or the coaches just did a poor job of evaluating the talent and cost is one if not 3 wins if he continues to play like this or anything close to it. Illinois would certain have been a different story. Potentially Iowa and with more games under his belt today certainly could have been different.
