Hal Greer passed away at 81yrs. Great, great hooper. One of the very best jump shooters ever. Could take it to the hoop also. And a great defender. Never a showboat. Member of NBA Hall of Fame. RIP Hal.
Loved the way the Philly announcer used to introduce him during warmups.
+1. A quiet pro. That was Dave Zinkoff, who would bellow GAH-REER every time Greer made a basket. Great PA announcer. When the Celtics were in town and Bailey Howell committed a foul, he would say, "That (pause) was a Howell (pause) Fow-ell."
Back to Greer, one of the least-known greats of the game. He was named one of the 50 greatest NBA players in 1997, and retired as the league's fifth all-time leading scorer (behind Chamberlain, Robertson, West and Baylor).
I seem to remember Hal Greer taking a jump shot when shooting free throws. So cool...don't recall anybody doing that. RIP to a really talented player
I remember him saying it was practice for his jump shootingCan,t remember another player--NBA or college--that shot his free throws with a jump shot. Also remember his high pitched voice hen he disagreed with a call.
TL
I often wonder why more players don't shoot jump shots on free throws. There have been many excellent jump shooters who did not connect on a high percentage from the line.
R.I.P.
