Donald Harper Jr was also listed as a highlight player in one of the best camps in the country.

I wish the best for the kid and his future. Go get em!Enjoy your time on the banks to the fullest.

This shouldn't slow down the rumblings about the standout summer he is apparently having.

I hate to throw cold water on this, but his father was coaching one of the teams so that's how he got invited to the camp. Playing against those guys all day for several days in a row should help him improve.

Appreciate the info.

Sure, of course, but his father isn't Andrew Slater. He didn't pay Slater to mention in a tweet.

@Russ Wood.....you are correct that his Dad was one of the coaches involved, but I've heard that he was as heavy as 230 pounds during this past HS season and is around 213-215 within the last couple of days....this offer and playing for RU has sparked the next level of work ethic, there is now a legitimate goal in the next 12 months in front of him....if the next 12 months are like the last 2-3 months for Harper Jr., RU not only has a steal, but they have a player that can develop into a Small Forward and provide some depth/competition with Issa Thiam and Peter Kiss for 2018-2019 etc......

He sent out two tweets during the camp. One highlighting Harpers play.

His dad may have got him there, but he got recognized by himself as a talent. Major win for the kid.
I found these:

I didn't find one where he highlighted Harper's play. I'm not saying it doesn't exist but please embed it in this thread I'd love to read what Andrew had to say.

Once Harper adds the size he is destined to achieve through good genetics (hopefully), I think he's a pure power forward

You said one tweet "highlighted his play".
Now you say by highlighted you mean mentioned?

Out of the 50-100 kids invited to the Nike Tournament, Slater mentioned Harper in a tweet highlighting him and 6 other five star kids for standout play.

To me, that says a lot. And it has nothing to do with Harpers dad maybe helping him get there.Good for Harper Jr!

Is this the Tweet you're talking about? Because it doesn't mention anything about standout play. It is simply a Tweet about some of the kids who were at the camp. And they're not all five-star kids

Like I said in an earlier post, I'm not saying the Tweet you're referring to doesn't exist but please embed it in this thread I'd love to read what Andrew had to say about standout play.

Other than Harper Jr all of the players Slater listed in his tweet are Top 50-Top75 kids (with three or four being McDs AA level kids [King, Ayo, Swider, Jones]). I don't know if Andrew Slater was calling out those specific players due to their high level of play at the camp or just listing names, but when I first saw the tweet (in this thread) I did think Slater was referring to those he thought were the "best" invited out of the 30 kids who attended.

I can now see the tweet the way you do Russ (as just a list of names), but I also see how Higgins interpreted the tweet from Andrew Slater (that Harper Jr. was one of the better players at camp). Unless someone speaks to Andrew Slater I am not certain we can know which is correct.

Slater saying some of the Nikes best invited and Harper made the cut. In a place with a lot f five stars. That says something. The wide majority were four and five stars. They listed it themselves.

It doesn't matter how many stars-----the coach wanted him.

That should be enough for everyone.

Now having said that don't put him in the same conversation with the King kid-------that kid could be a one and done.

I'll probably see Andrew in October. He's usually at the Hoop Exchange Fall Festival. If I remember I'll ask him.

To me that Tweet just looks like him acknowledging some of the kids at the camp. Most likely kids who were playing in the game he was watching. There is no hint of an evaluation of talent in the Tweet. It's not a "Some of today's standout players at the Nike Academy were..." Tweet.

I think the confusion was this..... first there was a pre-camp article where Harper was mentioned, along with several other players

there was no followup tweet or article that highlighted his play.....
