Have a question about crowd Saturday Night

Quick point to consider - early in the game, especially on the opening drive and on 3rd downs, the home crowd was deafening. You would not know there were any OSU fans since they were in red and the fans were cheering when you would expect a home crowd to cheer. By the time we were down 4 scores the home crowd noise disappeared and the OSU fans could clearly be heard. When I watched the recording afterwards it was the same. So there is no way there was anything close to 15000 visitors. Outside chance of approaching 10k (but this was the most I have ever seen at RU including PSU)

Probably 8-10k...definitely more than TTFP

Also, plenty were from Ohio, or transplants to our area, which is even more impressive.

Not nearly as many tOSU alums in a 2 hour radius compared to TTFP or Michigan, but tOSU had way bigger numbers, were way louder as well.

Ohio people travel EVERYWHERE and not just for football. Has nobody else here noticed how many people are from Ohio when you and your own family are on vacation somewhere. Ohioans flee that state in droves and not just for the Buckeyes.

No wonder why so many legendary astronauts were Ohio natives.

My mother got tickets for her friend's husband (wearing an OSU hoodie) and another friend of his (from Temple). The friend's husband went to Youngstown State, but said almost everybody who's lived in Ohio for a little while has some affinity for the Buckeyes.

At 3pm. Not a chance.
I was in the Blue Lot from around 12:30 on this past Saturday. A lot of OSU fans made it into the front row and a couple ponied up for RV passes by Yurcak field. I'd call it around 50/50 at best.

I arrived at 9am. All the early birds were there as usual. After that it was a majority of OSU fans in all of the front 4 lots. I walked them all. 3 times before 3pm. Spent time in all. The biggest observation was no one was there. All the early bird crowds said the same.

15%. No more... But they were loud. OSU oversold their allotment. 4K and asked for more. No other team has. I say 8K total.. Maybe 9K

Ohio people travel EVERYWHERE and not just for football....though nobody can tell me why lol.

Contrary to popular belief Ohio is one of the most populous states in the union and many of us have money to spend since we have a low cost of living and taxes. So we spend our money traveling and doing things we like.

How'd they forge tickets and get in? Did they print duplicates?

There is another thread dealing with this..... .. The people who bought them thought they were legit, reportedly some counterfeit ones even sold through brokers...... And some were real looking cardboard tickets, right down to the perforated edges...... Reportedly these tickets did not pass the scan at the gate, but the people were admitted anyway...... Sounded like the university thought the scanners malfunctioned....

Thus we had more OSU fans inside than should have been

We were in 126 row 10 and there were OSU fans in our row, at the 50 directly behind the RU bench - not counting the one the came with us, who sat respectfully and did not cheer out loud for OSU.

I think some of you are underestimating psu fans they were largely quiet most of the game. There were hardly any osu in 223 and 224 but plenty in the corners up top and end zone. I would guess 8k tops.

What/where the hell is "oho"? So the funny thing was that it was basically an O-H-O (no "I") chant since there were few to no Bucknut fans in the south endzone (all RU students and recent alumni so no one there cooperating with the visitors). All we kept hearing in the east sideline (which was the ending side) was O-H-slight pause-O. While everyone knew the intent and not surprised they were loud and proud to get it going in our stadium, I still couldn't help myself from giving some of their fans a hard time that they can't spell Ohio correctly.

I thought the same thing actually realizing they'd never get an I loud enough since you may have folks in 101, 102, 129 and 130 doing it, but it wasn't nearly enough....So I guess they failed b/c they couldn't infiltrate the student section.

I missed that thread b/c I think it's in The Round Table. But I could be wrong.

I sat next to an OSU guy Saturday night. His motto since retiring 10 years ago has been "every play, every game, every year". Hasn't missed a regular game or post season game in over 10 years.
207 and around us seemed to be almost all OSU and a few RU scattered about.
I'd say 10k was pretty close to the correct number.

Jesus. Some people need to get a life.

the guy is retired......the football team plays 12, 13 times in a year, and 6 or 7 are probably almost in his backyard...... I see nothing wrong if he goes to all the games....

I don't make a majority of them, but I always found it a good time if you go to the away game, stay a few extra days to take in the sights, food, etc.... it is better that than
a senior just sitting at home watching on tv, if he can afford it.

really? I thought it was awesome. he's retired. he's healthy. he's got the resources and he's doing something he loves. He told me that he had a bucket list of stadiums to see and that Rutgers was the last on the list. He wanted to see the Birthplace of College Football. Toured around the campus, made sure to get a pic with the statue. I aspire to be him.

I would estimate about 10K, like many have already said. It was clearly more than PSU last year (around 5K) and more also than Michigan (6K or so). I would agree that it was the largest visiting crowd I'd ever seen at Rutgers Stadium, even more than the Princeton fans in 1969 for the Centennial Game in the old stadium. But I was not at the home game against ND in 2000(?) so can't comment on that. Perhaps someone else can.

Winning obviously helps a school create a fan base, including a traveling fan base. When you've been winning consistently for over half century like OSU has, it becomes even easier. Plus, Columbus is considered to be a discreet media market, meaning that it has less influence from other media sources. So with all of the networks having their own local affiliates - something the state of NJ lacks - there is a steady diet of OSU football news. It's quite likely that more people in Columbus know what the Buckeyes had for breakfast than who is in first in the National League.
