All were good loyal sons/daughters with good intentions. They did their best and wanted RU to succeed. With that being said the one thing they ALL had in common was that they were given keys to the car for the first time here at RU. In the past they were passengers. The lesson to be learned is that you don't cut your teeth as a AD/HC at this level and in this media/fan environment. All had potential and pretty solid resumes. All would have also benefited from a few years driving on a slower track to gain experience as the top dog without the microscope they were under here. I can only hope the decision makers at RU have finally learned this lesson and avoid putting first timers in visible leadership positions. Heck even experienced candidates have a hill to climb.

I continue to wish each good luck.

UPSTREAM RED TEAM!

They all had one thing in common. They sucked at their jobs, were overpaid and won't sniff a similar level job in their lifetimes. Oops that's 3 things.

Respectable OP. We grief ex-HCKF because of his uncanny stubborness but at the end of day it wasn't like he was purposely trying to sabotage the program. It's just an unfortunate reality that he just wasn't a very good coach and was given the keys more out of a knee jerk reaction by the AD at the time.

A little loose and fast with the term "loyal son/daughter". They were employees of the university with the exception of TP.

Greg Schiano came to Rutgers without any experience as a HC. He replaced Terry Shea who had previous HC experience.

True , GS was a first timer, the fact is you can succeed with the higher hill to climb. However I believe that is tougher here especially in today's environment. GS was hired at a much different time then Mr. Flood's promotion. It was a time when very few experienced guys would be interested (the issue then was a coach could get equal or better money in a lesser conference, and have a better chance of winning). Back then taking a chance on Greg was possible, it is not possible to take that same chance on a newbie today.

Jeez, a well thought out response! No calling out anybody or cursing at some other poster. What happened to this board?

Partly disagree with the OP. With Hermann and Pernetti, maybe they could have started elsewhere and made a go of it and become successful ADs. But I think with Flood and Hill, Jr., they just didn't have the right stuff to be head coach no matter where they started.

Looks like we continually hire ADs without any AD experience or proir athletic department experience (with the exception of Hermann as an associate AD at Ville, and Gruninger with admin experience at RU before becoming AD). We also like to hire Football coaches with little to no experience as HCs. As far as basketball, we've hired men's coaches with years of HC experience and that's really not helped move the needle much. Women's basketball we've only had 2 coaches over the last 40 years, and both had had prior HC experience.

ADs:
Hobbs - <1 year interim AD experience, no other athletic dept experience
Hermann - No AD experience, but had athletic dept experience as Assoc. AD
Pernetti - No AD or athletic dept experience
Mulcahy - No AD or athletic dept experience
Gruninger - No AD experience, but had athletic dept experience at Rutgers prior

FB HCs:
Flood - No HC experience, OC experience at RU
Schiano - No HC experience, DC experience at Miami
Shea - 2 years HC experience at San Jose State
Graber - 1 year HC experience at Montana State
Anderson - No HC experience, only asst. experience
Burns - No HC experience, only asst. experience

MBB HCs:
Jordan - 9 years NBA HC experience, no college HC experience
Rice - 4 years HC experience at Robert Morris
Hill - No HC experience, only asst. experience
Waters - 6 years HC experience at Kent State
Bannon - 8 years HC at Rider, 7 years HC at Trenton State
Wenzel - 5 years HC at Jacksonville University
Littlepage - 4 years HC at UPenn
Young - 4 years HC at American University

WBB HCs:
Stringer - 12 years HC at Iowa, 12 years HC at Cheney State
Grentz - 1 year at St. Joseph's

Nice work digging all that up RUChoppin. The good thing about getting someone with experience is you know what you're getting. The bad thing is that our only shot at getting top talent is getting someone unknown. Once an Urban Meyer becomes a known quantity, he isn't going to be coming to RU at this point. I don't mind us taking a shot with a relative unknown if the decision makers really know what they're doing and have a good feel that the guy has the right stuff.

Mulcahy ran the Meadowlands. Gotta count for something

Not saying he had no experience, just no AD experience or athletic department experience. The Wikipedia page on Mulcahy is a bit of a hatchet job, too - someone should really go in and clean that up.
