This was lost in all of the football focus this week, but it was announced earlier this week that the Volleyball coach will not be retained and a coaching search is taking place. It has been interesting to see the hires made in some of the other sports the past few years. Hopefully this one works out.

If there were ever a tough job, Volleyball seems to be it. The Big Ten seems crazy dominant and Rutgers is truly swimming in the biggest pond and in need of a complete build in this sport.

You guys ready to hit up the governor’s office on this one? All hands on deck.

Damn Schiano. Sucking up all the athletic funds. Now we can't get a decent volleyball coach.

Volleyball in B1G might be even tougher than football. I think about 4 teams are top 10

Volleyball IS a premier sport in the B1G and dominant. It’s why I always wondered why gymnastics ended up in the APC but not volleyball.

Earlier, volleyball was to be included. Nobody I know can tell me what happened. Maybe they will have the Hale Center to themselves soon.:Rutgers:):CHOP:

If not for that silly title 9 stuff we’d drop the sport. We are sooo far behind. They need a new facility to compete.

Disagree. They now have The Barn ENTIRELY to themselves. Make the necessary upgrades/renovations, build the program, start selling it out...THEN we can talk. Look at what Gymnastics began to build using the Livingston Rec Center for crying out loud lol!

Not true. It's used for pickup basketball games still.

Gymnastics and wrestling did it with poor facilities but that doesn't mean every sport can. The Barn is an awful venue for everything, whether it's volleyball, midnight madness, the occasional wrestling match, pickup basketball or just plain working out in the fitness center. The building is so outdated and dilapidated that it probably would cost $200M+ to completely gut and refurbish. It's probably cheaper to just build a new extension on the back or elsewhere.

Husker always, I don’t even know how to describe how awful the facility our volleyball team plays in? Just try to think of the oldest high school you have ever been in and then add thirty years.

if we are paying more for the next coach than the prior coach we may be able to poach a coach from a midmajor school that has done well and made NCAA tourneys. Probably need to pay around $200k-250k to attract a decent coach midmajor coach. if we want to play in the big leagues we need to be prepared to pay $500k a year.

2016 stats fro a NJ.com article
Werneke ($96601) is the lowest-paid Big Ten coach by a wide margin. The 11th lowest paid Big Ten coach, Michigan’s Mark Rosen, earns $159,000 annually. The average salary for Big Ten women’s volleyball coaches is $225,800. Nebraska’s John Cook is the highest-paid Big Ten coach at $600,000.

Looking at top 25 and the others with top 25 votes (not in Cali or Hawaii) the following non Power 5 schools have votes
- Western Kentucky
- Cincy
- Marquette
- Col St
- Rice
- UCF
- there are some cali non power 5 schools but in Cali Volleybal is one of there premier sports so all the schools are good and are basically Power volleyball schools

Cook is around $1mil when everything is figured in. The VB program is self sufficient and gives money back to the athletic department so he gets paid very well.

I thought RU might go after Kayla Bandworth. She was an assistant at NU but Ole Miss signed her.

RU needs to poach an assistant from a Big 10 team. That’s where schools are getting their coaches.

Hopefully RU can find at least mid-level B1G $$ for one of the top assistants.
