How likely are we going to lose Coach Pikiell to UConn?

It seems the writing is on the wall for Kevin Ollie, any chance he turns down his former school? Is there an extension in the works to keep him at RU??

Agree, zero and as much as he appreciates his playing days you are in the BIG and not in a conference that is dieing on the vine.

Less than zero chance.

He's got a team on the rise in the B1G with a brand, spanking, new practice facility in the works to help attract top recruits.

And with more and more B1G money on the horizon, Rutgers can afford to pay him way more than UConn can. Leave the B1G for the American Athletic Conference? No way.

Bottom line is that Rutgers is already a better job than UConn ... and it's only going to get better.

Looks like the days of UCONN being THE team to beat in men's BB is over. I know Pike is all about building programs, but as already pointed out the two leagues are miles apart. If he can continue to get this thing going here, he could really become a serious contender for a lot bigger jobs. Then, we may have a problem keeping him.

Nobody on this board knows how much interest, if any, Pike would have in the UCONN job if it were offered to him.

We lose Pike and it’s back to square one.

I dont think they would hire him until he actually did something here....like get to a NCAA tourney, hiring a guy with only NCAA appearance in 14 years or so isnt what UConn is looking for. I think Pike is safe here until he does that. if he gets us to the tourney than we are at a better position for the next guy

Pikiell is very good and he has done a great job here. But thinking that his departure for UConn is the end of the world for Rutgers is nonsense. There is even a Pikiell staff member or two (or even a Big East coach or two with Midwest ties) who I think would do a great job succeeding him.

He would be silly not to at least use it as leverage and UConn can certainly pay 2.5 to 3.0mm per year so I would say the chances are greater than zero although not that high.

I saw the first half of UConn/Arizona in Tucson a couple of weeks ago and thought they looked competitive. I don’t know how it wound up.

Pike can be the Calhoun of NJ. NJ = NYC in the eyes of most. The money, the media attention, the league competition cannot get better.

He stayed at Stony Brook for 12 years. While the chances aren't zero that he leaves for UCONN they're pretty close to zero. Seems to love it here.

Let's just say it's a damn good thing we actually started building something instead of just issuing a lot of promises. This is when that comes in handy.

Not going to lose him. Let’s just keep winning and it will all fall into place.

Wow. If an RU gig is so much better than one at UConn, do you think we can get Geno to replace C. Viv. in a year or two ?

After last two games, the silver lining may be we won’t lose him.

Inbounding flawless today...maybe Pike can work on free throw shooting and layups next??

Geno gets paid $2.7 million per year & the haters at RU cry about paying CViv less then a million, so it won't happen.

This is the curse of Ryan Dunleavy. First he makes that infamous tweet about Saquan Barkley that he would've had trouble cracking the Rutgers RB lineup if he stuck with Rutgers instead of Penn State. The Rutgers offense goes historically in the crapper and Barkley turns into a Heisman candidate and wins a Big Ten Championship. Next Dunleavy makes a comment about Pikiell leaving for UConn that was immortalized by a Jerry Carino tweet and we lose two straight.

I pin the last two losses on Dunleavy, no question.

Where are they going to get the money from? The Big East money is all but dried up and their $3+/- million annually from the AAC isn't going to cut it. They have big contracts to pay off their men's and women's basketball coaches; money that has to come from somewhere. 20k in their excuse for a stadium on a Saturday isn't going to cut it.

None. Why would Pikiell, who stayed at Stony Brook for what eleven years, suddenly play hopscotch with jobs just because his alma mater is UCONN? And why would he leave the B1G and get a chance to play MSU, Purdue and Indiana for what? Tulane, ECU and Tulsa? I think not.

I’d say it would only interest him if UConn switched conferences. If they rejoin the big east it’s much more attractive for him. He is clearly a good coach. He will find success with ru if given the time. Only then will he be a valuable commodity. You don’t toss a guy who won the national championship 4 years ago for one who has a single dance appearance and is 0-1. Similarly, Willard will have some interest from programs if the team makes a run. Otherwise he will continue to enjoy the garden state.

UConn doesnt want your garbage coach
Yes they do...its immortalized on many boneyard comments by the hoop diehards...who'd want to go to Storrs is the better question for a 1 post dummy !?! UConns become an obscure G5 AAC school in record time and almost as out of place as WVU is in the B12 demographically.
