What about the states of Frustration, Anxiety, Dis-organization, and Panic?
Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia. That's 27, off the top of my head, with Wisconsin to come this weekend, along with Kansas, Minnesota, and Iowa in the years ahead. So I'm missing three of the first 30 - possibly games in New Hampshire (Dartmouth?), Rhode Island (Brown?), Maine, or Vermont from back in the days when we played a very small time schedule?
I'm assuming that any games we might have played in DC wouldn't count as a "state." I'm also assuming that you're only talking about football. Basketball would add many more, if not most of the rest.

Your question is ambiguous. Are you asking the number states with a D-1 program or how many states cana D-1 program play in. The first is there are 41 states with D-1 programs. Obviously the second is 50. States without FBS are ME, VT, NH, RI, DE, ND, SD, MT, AK

49 in theory as there are no NCAA FB programs in Alaska and I dont think there ever have been. VT doesnt have one any more either, but did. NH, RI, ND, SD, MT, ME, DE, and DC only have FCS programs.

Army (now known as Army West Point) has played in 33 states and U.S., Japan and Ireland.... perhaps Notre Dame, Navy.... anyone whose program would take them national in their history (something Rutgers did not have until the last quarter century or so).

So, I looked through all of ND's schedules in Wikipedia, and it looks like they've been to 35 states (added Virginia this year) and 3 countries (US, Japan, Ireland).
Once we add Iowa, Minnesota, and Kansas... we'll be up to 34.

At the rate they are adding bowl games, I'm sure the Gold Rush Bowl in Anchorage is not far from reality.

I think the last time Florida played a game above the Mason-Dixon Line, was when they played us at the Meadowlands in the 80's.
You're right rutger80. The 1986 game at Giants Stadium was the last time Florida played a game in the northeast.
Heh-heh. They have played in 23 states - and many were in the first 40 years after the program began in 1906. The Florida Gators have played in: AL, AK, AZ, CA, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, MO, MS, NC, NJ, NY, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA. They have also played in the United States and Cuba.
