I'm sure there are a couple, but I have to say, there seems like no end in sight. I NEVER,EVER,thought that joining the B!G would set those programs back even further. Sure, I knew the competition would be kicked up a notch, but I thought the recruiting would go off the charts to over compensate for this. Man was I wrong. We are so out of our element it's beyond belief. At this point, all the B1G fans around the country that said inviting Rutgers in was a huge mistake, are looking like ."Carnac the Magnificent". Sure we brought the TV's, but we haven't brought much else, with no game plan to turn it around.Who will lead us out of this dungeon? Near the bottom in both sports. Near the bottom in facilities. Near the bottom in fan interest since many feel our administration is near the bottom in commitment.

None...our basketball program is at the absolute shitter of the Power 5...and actually maybe the top 8 conferences....and its not close. RU would be mid pack in the a lot of the mid majors...wrap your head around that. Football is a bit better but we are slipping each year towards the bottom

quite frankly an honest assessment says we don't belong in the Big 10. Don't have the fanbase, commitment, money, gravitas, leadership to do it....and quite frankly we don't even belong in the AAC, this is a school more suited for the MAC and Im not joking

We should take 3 points per win for football and add 1 point for basketball (prorate the games). So we get 12 points for FB this year and 11 for MBB last year (forgot how many wins we had). Let's say 23 points. How do the other teams do?

So true yet many fans are getting their rocks off just because we're playing teams in the B1G. Personally I don't enjoy getting embarrassed on the national stage and pointing out to everyone in the country that we suck at everything including donations, finances, university leadership, coaching, recruiting, facilities, team discipline, academic integrity, player conduct, self-respect, media support, fan support, not to mention fielding the worst combination of P5 football and men's basketball on the planet. There is no chance we will in a B1G championship in football or MBB in the next 25 years at least. Most of us on this board will not be around to see it if it ever happens.

we have not shot in football at winning given 4 storied programs are in the same division, yet we have some fans who love this fact. RU would at least have a punchers chance in the other division but they and Maryland and Indiana will get buried year after year after year

I still believe you never say never.

Go back 7-10 years and see how many Michigan State fans thought they would contend in a division with Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State...

The right coach can make a huge difference.

While I agree with you, we have a track record of Load Gun, Point at Foot While Running, Shoot...and repeat. Been waiting since the Late 70s for this cycle to change, and it hasn't. We got lucky with Schiano in football, and a couple of good hoops seasons early in Wenzel's tenure, but nothing about our athletic department says anything other than amateur hour. Tough to admit as a fan, but appears to be true.

Iowa state is worse than us probably. It's close. But...I think they are worse. Maybe Illinois too on a good year.

It's our second year in the Big. Jesus. We weren't coming in with great programs. Things don't change overnight. Some of you guys are insane. Enjoy life for a change.

While that's true, we weren't lighting it up in the Big East/American either. Take a look at our directors cup standings over the last 10 years. Abysmal performance overall, mediocre on the football side. Women's basketball has been our bright spot, but that's about it. During the Mulcahy years, all emphasis was placed on football, which probably got us where we are today, but Mulcahy was a football director -- not an athletic director. Pernetti -- gone too soon, but his marquee sports hire track record isn't great. Time will be Julie's judge.

Iowa State hoops ranked #5 in the country so they're light years ahead.

Boston College and Oregon State are in the discussion based on this year.

Maybe Wake Forest as well. That would be it. Which is pathetic considering we have more resources than those 3 combined

With the right coaches in football and basketball, are we going to be Ohio State..no...are we going to be Iowa...sure

Visiting fans have really commended our stadium, loudness, tailgaiting....

It is all about coaching and the unwillingness of this school to spend of staff

Right down the street, Monmouth pulls out another upset beating ND. Check out their roster, mostly kids from Rutgers backyard, NJ,NY,PA DE, one overseas and 2 from TEX. There's no way we can't field an exciting and winning team if we knew how to identify talent and coach it.

Exactly, within an hour from our campus we have a G5 program who destroyed Penn State and lost on the final drive to ND. Then we have a low mid-major basketball program that recently beat UCLA and ND. There is absolutely no reason why Rutgers cannot compete in the B1G in both sports in the near future, but it will probably take a new administration committed to winning, new AD, and new coaches. Is that really to much to ask for from those who run the state flagship university?

How many P5 schools were D1AA 40 years ago. None. Literally - not even TCU, Louisville, or Utah - all were at least what we would call g5 level at a time (TCU was in the SWC - a P5 level conference) that RU was playing non-scholarship schools like Lehigh. We have never dug out of that hole for a whole host of reasons - some self-inflicted - some just natural reactions to the situation. Its not easy to do - hence no other P5 schools that were D1AA 40 years ago.

Big Ten fans are dumb - their teams are getting extra money and easy wins.

But this was obvious to anyone who was pying attention. I said it in 2012 (and got shouted down as a rampant pessimist - no such thing when it comes to Rutgers sports) - it would take a long time to get up to speed in the Big Ten because of our history (while the other were P5 level we were D1AA, then G5 level - Maryland for example, or PSU, not to mention the rest of the Big Ten).

We basically have to catch up to decades and decades of spending and program building just to be average - and do it when we are still making Big East money, with Big East level donors, and a Big East level team. All while the academic side is facing constant budget and political pressure itself.

Like I said - its not easy - just consider yourself lucky that the schools location has given us even the possibility of being a P5 team. If we were anywhere else in the country outside of the nations largest market (the only major FB school in that market) we would still be in the AAC.

You do realize that our team beat the national runner up last year right? Upsets happen. Doesnt prove much. There is huge variability in college sports. Have them play top 20 teams 10 times a season instead of one and they are probably 1-9 like us.

Temple in FB is a senior laden team that beat a middling PSU team that is still recovering from sanctions. Them almost beating ND is akin to us almost beating Michigan State.

Come on Der, you know better than that. Their best player didn't even play.
